Mar - DEFINITELY tell the dentist about the reaction. They need to know so they can do something different next time. Take care of yourself and hopefully the recovery won't be too long. I haven't had a local anaesthetic for a while, but a needle biopsy I had a couple of weeks ago knocked me out for a couple of days - I was suddenly shattered about 15 minutes after. And my regular GA takes 2 weeks for me to be safe to work and longer to get back to normal (the year I had 4 in 6 months was not a good one).
Pooky - I know EXACTLY what you mean about 'being spoken to like I'm an ignorant little lady.'. I'm currently having a lot of work done on the house and quite frankly 90% of the trades who come in through the door aren't going to get the job because of the way they treat me. Their inability to explain what they are going to do and how, produce a quote or understand that I know what I want is infuriating!0 -
Morning all,
Slowly getting back to normal here. Last week just seemed to get busier by the second, and the trip down to bath was nice, but exhausting. I started it off with some bad news from work and then we were 90 minutes late setting off and of course the weather wasn't on our side. Never mind, we had a nice day Saturday!
I get talked to as the 'little lady' as well. Its even funnier when both my OH and I are present and they insist on speaking to him. Lets just say I'm the one who unclogs drains, operates the drill, and does any other odd jobs. The look on their faces when he turns to me and says 'I haven't a clue' and then I say something intelligible.:rotfl:
I have been reading, but can't remember any of it now. Hope you are all well. Oh, in other news, I've started to enquire about kittens. It looks like we may be viewing one on Saturday.:D0 -
Mar sorry you're feeling bad again, and I agree definitely discuss with the dentist what could have caused such a reaction and how to stop it happening again. There's still so much we don't know isn't there. My sister, after making what we thought was a complete recovery, took a job which involved quite a bit of air travel and had a complete setback. It got so she couldn't fly at all, one flight would make her feel so bad. It remains a mystery.
Kidcat I hope all goes well with the DLA today.
Sheila we seem to have had a miracle cure today, both dogs getting on much better together with only one little scrap. I borrowed a DAP diffuser which is supposed to help with anxiety, so I don't know if Lottie being in the room with that all night has made a difference. DH said we could do with one for him.
My parents are visiting today and my mum is very scared of dogs so it will be an interesting one.0 -
Morning all - mum has been ill again and was taken into hospital at 11pm sunday night. She came out late yesterday after having her medication checked and they made sure her heart was stable.
So yesterday at work was a very tiring day, we were busy and I was on tender hooks, plus I hadn't slept well. Last night I fell straight to bed, and I woke this morning after DD yelled up for me to wake up. Going to see my other DD today, she is going to do my nails for me - half hour of pampering which I feel I fully deserve.
Sold my meerkat yesterday, made £30. It came after I ordered my house insurance. So cost for insurance for a year now stands at £31 - bargain.
Take care all, will pop by in the morning xBSC member 137

Morning everyone.
Haven’t been online over the past few days. It seems that everything is again coming at once here. It was nice to have a break from the worries.
Dentist:
Oh & I finally had our appointments at the dental hospital yesterday for our assessments. Which, I left unhappy for various reasons. One being that I have been misinformed. OH seems to have the more serious issues at hand. He’s work is going to include stitches ect, He also will have to stop working for 3 days (Which is a task in itself) meaning tougher times are ahead.
I was told from my local dentist, That I was being referred for sedations on the grounds of fear and having a weak gag reflex which would make having any work done very hard and that I would be given a general rather than local.
However, Yesterday I was told that I will only have a local, I will be awake and aware of what is happening & they don’t offer a clean or filling service whilst I’m under. So now I’m confused as to why I’m even attending the hospital.
I have left the appointment terrified. I don’t think I’ve ever had a local and not sure what my experience is going to be. Having health anxiety, fear of the dentist & being in a hospital has set my stress & depression right off.
The Bank:
We was called in from our bank on Saturday for a account review for my partner. However, After walking through the door, It was instantly about me. How I have managed to mess my account up, Needing budgeting advice, telling me my lending score (which I already knew would be rubbish). Although we left with some good advice, I felt I had my confidence knocked out of me.
Anyways, Sorry for the rambling post, Just needed to get it off my chest.
Sorry for not getting back to you Nutty x

Princess what a week. (((Hugs)))
What a cheek the bank have too. These visits are not supposed to be slap on hands things at all and they have a cheek. They need to get their own house in order.
I hope you have a better day today.
I don't know if they still exist but there was a clinic in Guildford that specialised in fear of dentists among other things. I took my ds after our dentist made an appointment there for us because he was only three and had a broken tooth which the dentist would not touch because he was so young and he did not want to scare him for life off dentists. Maybe there is something similar in your region? They did put him out and were wonderful with him.0 -
PRINCESSX87, re the dental hospital, that's ridiculous. I would speak to your own dentist again and tell him what happened there, and ask if he/she can liaise with them.
Mardatha - So sorry to hear you're feeling so bad again, sounds as if 3 locals in a week was a bit much for you, but it should improve as nuatha says. Do tell the dentist about it though! and your GP, as wondercollie and kidcat suggest.
HUGS to everyone xx0 -
PX87 - I am having sedation for similar reasons, yes you will be awake and able to communicate etc, however they give you an IV drug which basically keeps you calm and woozy, then they add the local to numb the area. They said that the idea is to give you control still, it means you will be able to say when you cant cope any more. It will also help build up your confidence and the aim is to be able to get you back into normal dentists for treatment.
I have a full warning sheet about what I cant do afterwards, which is very clear that the sedation is very strong - it says things like do not make decisions for 24hrs, must not drive for 24hrs, must have adult to look after you for 24hrs etc. So it must be fairly strong stuff.0 -
Just called my local dentist it seems its now a game of, Each contradicting the other. Either way, I’m adamant that I’m not going to have any form of sedation until I know clearly what is being done.
Thank you for all your advice. xFuture goals:

Princess, I had my tooth out under sedation, but it was apparent how stress I was. I was crying as I entered the hospital, so when they gave me the intravenous drip I can only say I came too about 3/4 hour later in another part of the hospital with an oxygen mask on my nose and a nurse wiping my face. I had 2 wisdom teeth out. They had to stitch the gum afterwards. The nurse said I had to have a little extra as I refused to open my mouth, in my defense I remember nothing.
I have a lovely polish dentist who gives me a tissue to wave when I need to stop, even cleaning my teeth scares me - its the drill noise I think. So princess you are not alone I AM THE WORSE PATIENT EVER.
Take care xBSC member 137
