Arhh MAR them there cakes looks very yummy to me, what a good idea having a " pop up shop", the reporter Emma Baker lives in Norfolk, and is a presenter on our local tv news " About Anglia"............Thanks for letting us all watch that report very interesting...................

Well on the news tinight BBC and ITN , were reporting about the economy , saying that things are looking up, but as usual " the rich get richer and the poor get poorer". And the poor souls on the bottom line , with high rents , unemployment , children ,disabled, bedroom tax, etc etc , and on benefits are really getting hit the hardest , but thats conservatives for us , their policy was always looking after people what already are well provided for ..............

The proof is there with all the new " food banks " that have opened up in the last year ........They wouldnt be there if no one used them...........
MAR ...Why dont you phone your dentist in the morning and have a word with him?...........Take care all...Sheila

SQ: What is it with families? My advice would be to treat them as distant acquaintances. If they get in touch with you, treat them with politeness and civility but don't go out of your way. You will find that your children will make their own friends as they grow up and if they want to have a relationship with their relatives it will have to be their decision. Life is too short to spend it dealing with nonsense.

All you Dental Phobics: my sympathies. I was also a nervous wreck about the dentists chair until I had a new dentist in the 70's. He was superb and I can honestly say that whatever he did I never felt a thing. I had an impacted wisdom tooth out with just a local and was amazed when he suddenly said, "That's it then. Have a rinse." I thought he was still deciding what to do! Sadly he retired last year so I have to find a new one.

Well, I am feeding the five thousand tomorrow, or that's what it feels like. They are getting Lyn's Red Cabbage. I had to make enough for 70 so I did and it is gorgeous. I couldn't find the small bottles of wine she advised so bought a £4 Co-op one. Obviously there was masses left over. I heard my Grandmother's voice in my head, "Wilful waste brings woeful want." "Thanks Granny," I thought as I virtuously poured another glass. It wasn't half bad either.

I also cooked enough cauliflower cheese for 70, and blackberry and apple crumble so there is only the sausages and potato wedges to do tomorrow.

  • Morning Toughies, MONNA glad you like the red cabbage, it's one of my favourite things to eat and goes down a storm with a Bratwurst sausage or a Breaded Pork Schnitzle, I hope your 5,000 like it too.

My house guest arrived with a horrid virus on Sunday and is poorly this morning with no voice so is going to phone in ill and then try to register as a temporary patient with our local surgery. The out of hours here only opens from 6.30pm - 10pm and I have no idea what path to advise if they can't see her. Here are the Govt and the NHS saying that A&E is overused and under pressure but where do you go other than NHS Direct who will only advise seeing a GP and to do so here there has to be a vacant appointment and ours are full for the day by 8.30 each morning when we're told to ring for an appointment!!! I hope I can find her something poor kid she's got such a sore side where she's coughing, why is life so complicated?

I'm off to walk the hound in a few minutes when it's fully light and thankful that it's dry at the moment. He who knows has been with DD1 having her woodstove installed and is driving home this morning so the Lurcha will be very pleased to see his Dadi!!! Catch you all later, Lyn xxx.

    morning all!

i'm sat trying to figure out a meal plan and things we can snack on that don't cost the earth.
both of my boys came back starving yesterday and what ever i gave them couldn't fill them up! ds2 hardly ever eats so its a real shock.

I've been asked for calzones, cheese sticks so bought a bag of grated cheese yesterday. Strangely the grated worked out cheaper per kilo than a block of cheese  by about £2.50!

OH spent all day at home yesterday writing out quotes. He off doing a worcestor bosch course at the college today.
Finally i've finished the last seduction gena showalter, i just couldn't get into the story as much as the others. Now it s the next one The Craving that's just came out, read the first chapter and its better than the story of Paris already. This one is about Kane and high lord demon Disaster.

Sorry to hear about your mum again nutty x

hope your visitor and kiddywinks are feeling better soon x

No one ever gets turned away from A&E Lyn, not if you're really ill and it's the most thorough and complex medical exam you'll I think - it's no wonder is it? Is there an out of hours service your friend could use this evening? They are few and far between but it's what I had to resort to with tonsillitis. The last bought I was turned away from the GP for having just a sore throat, let it go on and on to the point of extremes agony, went to out of hours who warned me that I may need to have anti biotics through my veins and my tonsils given attention to to reduce the swelling and quick should I not improve over night.

Huge pressures on GP's at the moment but those that cannot get help in the way they should are forced to use whatever measures they can really.

I'm eating well sq, thanks for asking. I have to admit that I sent DH out on Sunday to buy me a quiche, salad, couscous (although he bought humous! SP?) and yoghurt drinks and muesli bars as I've been time poor. I have got a crust less cheese and onion quiche in the oven as of now though and intend to work out a plan for being more frugal/HM with grab and go breakfast and lunches. Hopefully I can lose weight with it especially as my back and knees are suffering. I'm slightly worried about them and think I would fair better slim - must!!!! Look after myself and give myself the best chance.

I'd love nothing better now than to sort out my food stocks, look at slow cooker Pinterest inspiration and write a new menu plan and shopping list as I neeeeeeeeeed to organise but I really have to set to with the house work and quickly as I'm out again at 1pm.

Love you all and leave you for now - a whole weekend to relax in soon though ;)

Morning toughies, been trying to read along but no time to post.

Commiserations for all those with dental issues, especially Mar for feeling so knocked back by her treatment. Like monna, we had a lovely, jokey dentist who retired about 4 years ago and his replacement leaves a lot to be desired. He is very polite and pleasant, but ended up extracting a couple of teeth which the old dentist said he could maintain for me, so obviously I've lost the roots now. I was so keen to get out of the chair that I agreed to extractions rather than long, drawn out treatment. Poor dental health as a child I'm afraid, left me with problem teeth. Have been fanatical about keeping DDs filling free. I've just moved to a different practice, further away but much more geared up to nervous patients. I still dread going but at least I don't feel that they brush my fears aside like the other chap and they are always happy to work at my pace. They offer sedation (at a price!) and I think it helps to know the option is there if I am really struggling. Dh is having problems with a tooth which not-so-good dentist extracted last year but left a bit of root, saying it wouldn't be a problem - it is!! Unlike me, Dh has very strong teeth and very few fillings, so it's unusual for him to have a problem.

Lyn, sorry to hear about your poorly visitor, hope you find a solution. My dd17 has texted from college to complain about bad headache, first day back after a week and a half. Got her a triage appt last week and GP told her it was a virus but to come back this week if it was no better. Will have to try for another appt.

Dd19's car wouldn't start yesterday so I am having to ferry her to and from her shifts at the hospital (student nurse). Managed to get car to garage as MOT is due, they think heater matrix has gone and she probably wore out battery turning heater up to max when nothing was working on cold mornings!

I am drowning under paperwork for sale of Mum's house to fund care home, endless forms, queries, ID to produce etc. fingers crossed contracts will be exchanged this week as dreading a cold snap affecting the pipes while cottage is empty. Need to read meters and notify utiliities etc, seems never ending.

Rotten weather here, endless rain, got soaked to the skin walking dogs yesterday morning and didn't feel comfy at work all day as had to strip off wet clothes and throw on what I could find for work. Realised why I don't usually wear the trousers I ended up wearing, really uncomfortable fabric. Couldn't face going out in the rain again this morning so have to walk dogs later as well as everything else.

I am trying to take on board what the CBT counsellor has said and try to pace myself, find time to do something nice for myself every day even if it's as simple as sitting with a cup of tea and just 'being' not 'doing' for a few minutes. Hard to find the time, but it does help a bit.

Awful weather forecast for Friday, think we will have webbed feet soon. On the bright side though, I'm really noticing that it's a bit lighter in the evenings now . Looking forward to the Spring:)

    Onwards and upwards everyone
  • Hi ALFSMUM hope you can get the house sale through with as little fuss and botheration as is possible. My house guest has been registered as a temporary at our GP surgery and they have been superb today, she rang early and got straight through, the receptionist said no problem I'll get a doctor to ring you back which happened before 9 this morning. He listened to her speaking and said oh you've got laryngitis I'll print you off a prescription now, just come up and register and collect it as soon as you like. So she did and how has taken the first dose of antibiotic and is having a lie down and catch up of some sleep, they were brilliant!!!

FUDDLE look after your knees, you've only got one set and they've got to last you a long time, your back too!!! Would it be worth having some cooked sausages ready in the fridge, they're easy finger food and Ic*land do 4 chicken breasts for £3 which would also be good to keep in the fridge for 3 ish days once you'd cooked them and not be too calorific. The other grab it and run thing it's worth having ready prepared are carrot, celery and cucumber sticks, keep them in a tupperware and they'll be good for a couple of days and help stave off the pangs when you're running on an empty tum!!!

Found the first wild Primroses out when I walked the lanes this morning, and some very early violets snuggled under a garden hedge, I know it's cold and miserable and wet but those little flowers really made my soul happy, soon be spring, hang on in there!!! Lyn xxx.
