  • Morning Toughies cold again this morning and lots of heavy rain overnight but that seems to have gone now and left us with a tiny bit of blue sky showing through the clouds. I'm off this morning for the joy of a dental check up, I know, you're all wishing it was you!!!! Hate it but as it comes under the general maintenance heading in life I go and get descaled anyway. In his defence the dentist is a very nice guy and it's easy to get to on the bus so I can't really complain. Going to Mr.T afterwards to get a few bits as I have DD1 coming home for the weekend and my friends daughter coming to stay for a while to start her new job and look for accommodation in the city so I'm going to enjoy that and have some company too, very nice. Love the idea of coats for chickens, would stop the little beggars from escaping from their pens wouldn't it? love all the names Burtha, Elvis with the right hair? inspirational stuff!!! Lyn xxx.

Morning all,Thankyou so much for all the careing coments, its really appreciated. mum has called and she was admitted straight from ressuss on to the cardiac ward by the heart doctor. He assured her he will get things sorted, so we will see. My daughter has the day off so she is visiting this afternoon with a book and magazines for her to read. Rang my SIL and she said she would pass the message on. I told her the ward number and visiting times, she said she was busy with the kids and would see if my brother had time to visit. I did say I was working all week and she asked what time I was home.... well 1015pm every night till Saturday. We have loads of people off on holiday and as usual I try and cover. The extra money is always handy, but my mum will always be first in the line over work.

Housework to do, and nipping to homebase, they have paint on bogof and its reduced tohalf price. One coat emulsion, 2.5l. SO 5l for under £10. Good value!!

I'm waiting in the wings monnagran - payback mwahahahaha ;):D:p

Well it's another lovely day! :D I have a whole day off :D if I had a spade I'd set to on the garden but yet to purchase it so can't. What I am going to try is a banana loaf in the SC. apparently as it warms up the dough can prove then the temp of a SC is hot enough to dry bake the loaf. We shall see.

I had a 2 hour social call yesterday which meant I took a wheelchair bound lady out to walk her dogs. We all loved it! What job is there that can tap in to the very basics of care and wellbeing huh? I'm getting more and more out of the job every day.

I also discovered that one of my ladies is the widow of a war-time spitfire pilot!

Well eldest DD made the breakfast this morning. Yip, 2 big bowl fulls for the girls and no milk for my tea! Rotters. I am literally like a bear with a sore head - couldn't stop mentioning it on the school run. It's either camomile or a trip to the shop. We'll see because my shopping is delivered today. Can you believe I don't have any emergency UHT? I don't know how that's happened! Will have to fix that sharpish. Carp prepper!

Did I tell you I got a microwave when DH was paid on 15th? Can't remember. Well I have also invested in a microwave steamer. I'm really very impressed with it for veg! 7 mins in microwave and we have veg to our liking (10 mins for soggier veg) no more boiling the water on the electric ring, then boiling the veg, no more pan condensation and its bound to be saving money. Got to be. Cost me £4.

So a scurry round the house to make sure all is reasonably tidy then off to play with yeast. Going to wash our bedding too.

I'm getting silent treatment from sister (good!) and mam has booked tickets for national express! All that for nothing because she's coming anyway. I know she's scared, very scared but I've developed a little bit of respect for her for facing it and in some warped way, appreciate that she does want to see us if she's putting herself through it. When she called to say she was booking I did say what you all said - that there's an invitation open to her, she either comes or she doesn't and that I cannot help in any other way. I will never feel in debt to her again, especially as she's entering into my world, a world that she has no part of and therefore cannot use any of it to bash me with - I 'ope!
  • Morning all,

Struggling to get down to work today. Have done a bit but can't quite seem to focus so thought I'd have a quick break and try again.

Fuddle, you know by facing her fears and doing something hard in order to spend time with people who are important to her your mam might also gain a bit of respect for herself. Once she has travelled down and seen that she can do things that are a little scary or uncomfortable or difficult it might prompt her to do a few more. Baby steps, eh?:D So glad you're enjoying the job. I think being a carer is one of those jobs that if you can enjoy it, it makes you so much better at it--if that makes sense!

NuttyP, good for you for telling your SIL what is what. Hopefully the message will get through to your brother. I hope the best for your mum and will be keeping you and yours in my thoughts.

SQ, meant to say yesterday--you might not learn anything new from the classes, but sometimes just making yourself a priority helps. We'll be cheering you on the whole way!

SDG--the cardigan sounds fab! I think its great to pick a new project, something enjoyable so it doesn't feel like punishment! Big hugs.

Right. Time for me to make another go at it. xx
  • Hiya FUDDLE love my microwave steamer so much, it really does make good veg doesn't it? Well done dealing with mum, she's making the effort and it sounds like she really is wanting to see you all which is really nice! I hope this might be the beginning of a new chapter in your relationship with her, your sister will come round, she's just not used to you saying NO is she? well done little one, proud of you yet again, Lyn xxx.

Sdg that looks funky, I love it!. if you wore it with plain black it would look great.

Well done Fuddly one with the 'sticking to your guns' bit. Those girls of yours are cruel and thoughtless, they should gave realised they would suffer at grumpy mums hands if she had no tea :rotfl:

Fuddle: I'll let you know when I require a trip out in the wheelchair.

Burtha: Love the names of your hens. Before I moved here I had six. They arrived in twos so we had Hinge and Bracket, French and Saunders and Gert and Daisy, (you have to be quite old to know about the last two). Hinge and Bracket used to try to sit on a very narrow window ledge outside our sitting room so that they could see us. We built them a roosting pole so that they were more comfortable. Visitors were a bit taken aback when the were met by the sight of two contented hens watching television through the window.
