    Thanks EstherH;)
I agree with Floss2 in that everywhere has good/bad areas and many places are similar. TBH they are upgrading the retail area of my town and spending millions on a neighbouring town and though this is welcome...they are interchangable and character has been lost.

I was looking at images of Bournemouth where I have spent at least a year of my life if you add all the holidays together and I have seen(in the approx 15 years since I was last there)surprising changes. I'd love to go back for the memories just once but wonder if its basically as I remember or has changed.

I suspect as many homes were built years ago unless you are on a newly built housing estate, the only part that can be altered is the retail/gardens area.

Denise, if no one suggests any other ideas, onions can be chopped and frozen, it is then easy to just pull out a few when you need them. I used to do this when I lived alone.

What about making some pie fillings like chicken and veg, beef and ale, chicken and leek etc. Then you can either buy or freeze raw pastry that can be put on and baked all at once.

    Fairyprincessk, Thank you great ideas.:T

Margaret our kelp arrived today too so we're starting with you. Hope it's a positive experience for you :)

I made a rhubarb crumble last night and have stumbled upon how to make it goooee and sticky by accident... sugar. Too icky for my palette now but went down a storm so definitely a treat for the family come autumn.
  • You could go one step further with the onions for the freezer by saut!ing them in butter before you freeze them, them freeze them in portions big enough for a dish for two people. This is a good way to save a bit of time and a bit of fuel if you cook up a large batch to go in the freezer, Cheers Lyn xxx.

A lot of places have lost their character now and town centres are clones of one another. I last went to Bournmouth about ten years ago after having gone as a child and the gardens are still there to walk through from the sea front, into the town. I only had basic memories but they seemed right iykwim. Esther

I have been reading an old thread by D&DD, Family of five shopping from home. I found it by following a link for the lemon curd cake which I have now lost again (typical) but I am enthralled by the thread. I am going to try and spend as little as possible this month in the shops. The freezer needs running down and I have lots in as I have been doing second purse challenge. So, I shall be buying back from myself but not from the Supermarkets. Esther x

    Anyone seen this?

A genius idea, for the price of a posh latte you could buy someone 22 meals. Honestly, this girl speaks more sense than the whole flipping government put together.

I had seen it yeah. :) I've sourced my local bank down here and will be donation shopping for £3 tomorrow. Me and the kids will drop off on Monday. I will be supporting from now on. A Girl Called Jack rocks for giving me the kick up the backside for helping now.
  • KIDCAT Bognor Regis is further along the coast from Portsmouth, closer to Chichester in fact and that is one city that still retains a bit of its own personality. The cathedral is beautiful and the Bishops Gardens have been completely revamped of late and are very lovely to visit. Some 7 miles from Chichester is my favourite place to visit which is the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum at Singleton, 25 acres of farmland with many rebuilt buildings that have been rescued from sites where they would have been demolished and rebuilt at the museum, then furnished in period by the museum carpenter. They all have gardens attached growing varieties of crop that are in keeping with what would have been grown in the period the house was first built. They even have a fully working tudor kitchen where they cook all the food for the museum volunteers! Portchester Castle near Portsmouth is worth a visit, has been a garrison for 2,000 years, the National Armoury is just outside Fareham in a Napoleonic fort, very good value for money too. I love the West Sussex countryside around the Chichester area, really beautiful place, enjoy your break here in the south, Cheers Lyn xxx.

hi everyone, finally just got back from taking the car to the garage. It failed the mot on a tyre. It had a cut on the inside wall, so after paying out £65 for a tyre it then passed. YAY!!! The garage man said it could have blown at any time, so lucky I went.

So will be even more frugal with the shopping etc after this event.
