Well, we missed out totally on the thunderstorms last night so the garden is still parched and thirsty, it is much cooler here today though which is making life much more comfortable and has meant that after walking the hound just after 6 this morning I've been able to dust and vacuum right over the house without getting too hot and sticky. He Who Knows is coming home from a visit to DD1 for house decorating duties so the lurcher will be a much happier boy as he luvs his Dadi and is miserable when he is away for any reason. PX87 I sympathise with your dilemma over food, I'm fed up with salads too but we grow so much I can't not use it up and there is not much else you can do with a couple of square meters of lettuce other than salad. Although I was watching a Jamie Oliver 30 minutes the other day and he said that lettuce was traditionally cooked, so I might hunt out some old recipes online if I can find them and ring the changes to keep boredom at bay. I'm going to make a bacon, onion and courgette batter pudding for supper this evening, just a yorkshire pud mix with things in and topped with a little bit of cheese, it's easy and tasty and uses up some of the courgette mountain I also have to deal with, and I'll make some french peas to go with it and use up a lettuce that way, hope it stays cool enough to have the oven on.
FUDDLE hope your antibiotics have started to work and your throat feels a bit easier today. If you find it hard to eat solid food because of the pain them try fruit smoothies with some oats whizzed in until they are completely blitzed, it will give you some energy, and yoghurts will also keep your tum flora and fauna levels up. If you can bear them cold soups are soothing, blitz some cooked frozen peas with a cooked onion and some mint and milk and chill it down and that is nice and easy to digest, poor you, not nice being poorly in this weather is it?
VJsMUM good luck with the sleepover, although why the word sleep is involved is a mystery in my experience, you are right though, being the place they all want to come to is lovely and makes for peace of mind if not restful nights!!!
All of you with littlies just breaking up for the summer holidays, good luck, I wish you a lovely summer and September isn't that far away so I wish you the grace and patience to cope as well, Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning All,
Had the Thunder, lightening and rain around 7am-8am but not as spectacular or as much of it as led to believe in the media...more needed to be honest...oh well, the day's not over, there's still time. The thermometer in the bedroom still says 24c.
I don't have to go out(until this evening)and the coach trip planned to Bridlington isn't until Thursday. Bit disappointed that we only have around 4 hours there and the time is mainly getting there and back but its a ride out."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Hugs to Jem and Fuddle and anyone else in need.
Neighbours kicked off again last night. We're both walking zombies today, as its been awhile since we had a decent night's sleep. I'm off to see my parents tomorrow, so I'll probably sleep better, and I suspect OH will as well, as he is much better about sleeping with ear plugs in but worries about me not sleeping. Pops, I don't know what the owner is thinking. He was around yesterday and we heard his voice in the ruck-us last night. I suppose he must not mind. Either way, we've investigated our options, and I'm hoping the situation will improve quickly as a result.
We had a full on storm here, it woke me up around 6:30 and I had to get up and shut the bedroom windows as the rain was blowing in. I went back to sleep and dreamt that my garden was washed away. I've been out this morning and pleased to report that it is still very much intact, and my nets had the added bonus of ensuring the flowers weren't blown off the pepper plants. Everything is quite soggy, but it looks like there will be a dry spell this afternoon. I did, however, happen to meet two toads while I was out there. The first one must have been about as alarmed as I was when he jumped:eek: The second was nestled around some of the containers. I hear the eat slugs, so I shall have to become a little less squeamish!:D
Anyway, time for me to get back to work. I might not be around for the next week or so, but I hope you all enjoy the cooler weather, any children you have at home and any major events. Hugs to any and all who need them.0 -
