I stupidly put E45 on my nose ivyleaf. Boy did that hurt! Vasaline it is. Thanks
Jazee I baked it for 15 minutes but the yolk was cooked right through. If you wanted a bit of a wobbly yolk I would keep an eye on it and cook for less. I will be trying that next time.0 -
Afternoon/evening and thanks for the additional welcomes.
MrsL, can't remember the exact saying but something about loving the life you live - in essence, as you say, about being content with what you have.
Ivyleaf - Glad you have heating, it's such a lovely feeling when you've been without...
Softstuff - hope you get the new place sorted soon, when I moved into my house 18 months ago I kept encountering various things that didn't work & think everything had been done by Bodgit & Slapdash. Had no hot water (other than a dishwasher & electric shower) or heating from the July to the December....
Read Fuddle's post as you were going to clean the microwave with the lemon/mint/raspberry infused water.....
Came home early yesterday as feeling unwell with flu/cold, my glands/neck really aches so just having a quietish couple of days not really moving off the sofa. Hope everyone else feeling unwell is better soon too.
Got some great oven cleaning stuff (with the plastic bag) to clean the shelves last week from £land & it was great!! So just the glass doors to tackle another day (not sure what yet).
Watching Sewing Bee for the first time, really must set my machine up & get making again, not done it for a long time. Not this weekend though.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Softstuff - I pulled up all the carpets when I realised how filthy they were... I still haven't replaced the flooring, just covered the floors with rugs and offcuts of vinyl and carpet that friends and family have donated. Remember you're in this for the long haul...0

Ah Squiggly Diddly I belong to the school of dubious grammar so you probably read it as I typed it and not as I meant it :rotfl: although, now there's an idea. I mean mint does having cleansing properties after all

I don't quite know whether to celebrate, cry, or somewhere in-between the two, done both this evening, maybe just need to share and offload some of the guilt.
Little miss stilty really needs an active user wheelchair - she tried one out at kidz up north and it was amazing - she was so whizzy, so mobile, posture was great and clearly loved it. Trouble was that wheelchair services provide the basic lightweight that will get her mobile (but not allow her to fulfil her potential) so we applied to a charity for funding. Today we got the letter saying approved in principal but no funds to provide - will try to fundraise and give you decision by Aug ... great! She needs it now.
However, when we were at MIL's funeral we were showing a relative (from the well heeled side of the family) the video of miss stilty and saying how we'd applied for funding - got home to an email saying how lovely to see and if charity funding fell through she'd be happy to help. So today we swallowed what pride we have left and emailed to say ... fell through.. can you help please. We were so torn as it's not what we do - it's so hard to think we can't provide everything the kids need, we just don't like to ask for help, but we did it as miss stilty NEEDS it to thrive. Relative happy to help, money in bank already so will be calling to order first thing Monday am and relative put 'a little' extra in to treat the family which will pretty much ensure we have the best ever family holiday in May - I've just been booking extra activities galore.
We soooo didn't want to have to ask but what we've been given is so much more than we could have expected - people are truly amazing. Feel guilty that we had to ask, but we would never have asked if the offer had not been made so just truly thankful.
Sorry for the waffle -just emotionally all over the place - HX0 -
Stilty, don't feel guilty, nobody makes an offer like that unless they mean it. And Miss S deserves it.
Softstuff don't say that about carpets we have to take up all ours!
Well I wouldn't say it was exactly smooth, removals were still here at 10.30 last night and they have to come back tomorrow. And having left a pretty much spotless house I now have to clean all over again, particularly the kitchen which is grim. I don't even want to go near the oven. Luckily DH's parents and a couple of friends have been brilliant, and helped with bringing food, and looking after the children and the pets, and unpacking a bit. We are in a much better state than last night when I was wondering what we'd done in the moments I actually had enough energy left to think. But it will all come good, and DD's room already has the wallpaper stripped and the first coat of paint on (paid for the by reduced stamp duty, thank you George Osborne). I currently have a large pile of loft boards sitting in the middle of the living room which makes for a rustic-looking coffee table.0 -
Fuddle, for the nose, if it's not improved, try nappy rash cream. Works a treat.softstuff Sorry to hear your new home keeps coming up with nasty surprises
 Why are you having the flat renovated? Is it unlikely to sell unless that's done?
Savingqueen, the toenail clippings would have been my undoing! I met a friend the other day and was regaling her with the cleaning story, she told me when she moved into hers and looked in the kitchen she burst into tears. It seems this isn't uncommon.
Greenbee, the house will be taking a backseat next week, since yes, it's a marathon not a sprint. Have to get back to the flat to start painting the bathroom and get the plasterer in for the rest. In less than a couple of weeks we'll know if we have a few dollars left to make a start on the house. Other than that we'll just bondcrete the floors and wait!
Possession, I could lend you my mother in law for the oven. She does a lovely job.
Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

Stilty - your relative would not have offered if they didn't want to help you out, so send them a lovely thank you note with a picture of little miss having fun, and enjoy all the happiness it will bring. And don't feel guilty, feel thankful for kind relatives.2025 Fashion on the ration

Morning all
Possession - Glad the move went ok - I was gutted when we got the keys to this place and saw the filth.....I didn't notice it as we did the viewings but I had to scrape the bath with a knife to get the crud and scale out of it. All the carpets came up within the first hour of getting the keys the underlay had disintegrated and there were millions of silver fish running around everywhere. The previous owner had never owned a hoover so you can imagine how dusty the carpets were.
Stilty - So pleased little Miss Stilty is getting her chair - how amazing of your relative to offer. I can only imagine how much pride you had to swallow to ask, I'd have been much the same. But you know darn well that if you had the money and another family member could do with it, you'd do exactly the same. Huge hugs to you all x
SQ - Thanks for all your supportive messages and thoughts, it means a lot xxxx Hope you're feeling better today and DS has his clothes back on!! Did make me giggle.
Everything is moving on with Mum, we've had some fab conversations this week, she's back to long rambley stories most of which make sense, the short term memory issues are still there and there seems to be a time delay to some areas so we might start a conversation about where she is today (everyday is different as she can't remember) and she ends up bringing in the conversation we had 20 minutes ago. Highly confusing at times and she's no idea she's doing it but she does still have her sense of humour so we do get some laughs. They've had her up and using a walking frame - she's now mastered the walk across the ward (4 beds) a turn and then back to the bed...there'll be no stopping her soon. She's now on the big assessment week, lots of different people coming in to see her and see what her short term/long term needs are and hopefully the sign off from the surgeon to move on to a more local hospital to Dad. He's now having a bit of a wobble about not sure he can cope so we've arranged a family meeting with the care teams to put his mind at rest that they're not going to send her home until he's got all the support he needs.
Along side all of this life is running along at its normal pace, the kittens went in to be spayed at the beginning of the week and are back to running around like loons, 3 legged boy is doing fine and is back out hunting! One of my Aunts was rushed in for gall bladder op mid week (we're hoping there's a family loyalty scheme with the NHS), DD's are doing wonderfully with keeping the house clean and tidy and providing lots of support to me and DH, DH has been working away on his degree and got some good scores for his latest assignments, he also had a new diagnosis this week that should have been picked up 6 years ago with his car accident - it's a game changer in respects of how the insurance claim should have been handled and the consultant he saw at the hospital advised him to take legal action over professional negligence.....so we've all that to look into this week. It's never dull!!
Wasn't visiting yesterday so caught up with the in-laws and some friends for coffee, popped 2 SC going, one with chilli (half of which was consumed last night - the other half for later in the week) and the other SC had a beef casserole in for today - I shall manage a quick bowl before I head off for my train at lunch time. Engineering works on the tube mean I've got a fair old trek to the hospital today so I'm glad it's not raining!.
I love my slow cookers!!!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
