Oh dear poor you FUDDLY ONE take a break and look after your little self and get better quickly. Hope you had a lovely break in Cornwall despite feeling poorly pet. Take a couple of days of easy and slow time, hope you're OK for work again on Monday, Lyn xxx.0

Sorry you've been poorly fuddle hope you enjoyed your break away though. I enjoy the Sewing Bee I am totally in awe, these people are so talented! I have a sewing machine but only make very basic things. I have decided I will learn how to make a cushion cover with a zip!
Hope you are enjoying your nice warm house Iivyleaf, your OH is a very clever man. Did you bring the hotel bed home? We stayed in a Prem!er Inn when we went to London last week and the bed was fantastic, there was a leaflet in the room telling you how to buy one!
The weather here has been pretty awful, the rain showers have been very heavy so the ground is very wet, hoping for something better tomorrow as I really want to put the washing out (I know how to live!)
Hope you all have a good weekend. Oh, Possession, I hope your move has gone smoothly and that you will be very happy in your new home.0 -
Possession Hope your move went OK, been thinking of you. Don't die yet you need to make the beds.
Fuddle sorry you still have your cold, hope you still had a good holiday and you are better soon.
ivyleaf so glad you have the gas back.0 -
I'm barely caught up, so forgive me missing anything, but sending get well soon wishes all round.
How's the move Possession?
Our new house is proving to have surprises (as most do when you buy them). There's always more work than you think. Though I do believe the people in here previously were just plain filthy. Took up 1 of the carpets the other day.... and was shovelling bug bodies and waste up  Felt a bit like a challenge in I'm a celebrity. Given what I saw under the first one, I took the other 2 up... and the blinds off. Hubby is a bit scared of what I'll demolish next since we're still living on a mattress in the front room.
Meanwhile renovations at the flat are continuing apace. The bathroom looks like it belongs in a 5 star hotel, it's just lovely... and we're selling it :rotfl: Lessons have been learned though and as much as we'd like to shift the mortgage here quick, we are going to renovate the house sooner rather than later.
Anyhoo, best make hubby brekkie, got him drunk last night (to mitigate his concerns of having nowhere to hang clothes) and he has a bit of a hangover.

Ooh, I didn't notice a leaflet like that, wonder if there was one and I just missed it? We commented on the comfy bed to one of the receptionists and she said she was saving up for one herself!
Loving having a warm house though, and when I used the oven last night I was struck by how fierce the heat was...our gas pressure had been only half what it should have been
It had been leaking for a while; OH had noticed the last few bills were very high but had assumed it was because gas was expensive and we need the heating on a lot.
We were very lucky not to get ill, but the emergency gas man said the gaps in the floorboards, and the airbricks, meant a lot of the leaking gas just found its way out of the house.
It was interesting what the engineer said about our 34 year old boiler too - apparently there are loads of this model still going strong, and he said they are the only ones that age which are. It did need a new thermocouple about 15 years ago, but nothing else has ever gone wrong with it!
Possession I hope it went smoothly yesterday and you're now in your new home
softstuff Sorry to hear your new home keeps coming up with nasty surprises:eek: Why are you having the flat renovated? Is it unlikely to sell unless that's done?

Hello folks
Hope the move went ok Possession.
Eeeek to the gunk in the new place Softstuff. I know you will be working hard to make it nice again. Lots of luck.
Reminds me of my old flat. The couple selling were very nice, the woman very smart and well groomed. When I moved in the bathroom carpet was infested with fleas and the living room carpet a sea of toenail clippings. The wardrobes left behind were not in fact grey but pale pink and I spent many hours after work scrapping grease off the cooker and hob before I could/would use it. I worked really hard on that place and had never been more skint but reaped a tidy profit when I eventually sold it!
Still feeling poorly with tummy troubles but heaps better. I have resolved to eat better as I know a lot is due to diet and up to me to sort out. This is the year I am really going for it - decluttering, saving as much money as possible for the house and improving my (and by default DH and the kids') health.
The house is a tip again, kids have been indoors too much and it shows. DH took them out earlier to play footie due back soon. Right off to hang washing and start on the mountain of dirty dishes left from last night, I crawled into bed after dinner and there they still are of course.
I am stupidly excited about £100 worth of M&S vouchers procured from our recent phone supplier change. I know I will spend way too long browsing their website. DH asked what I would spend them on as we never buy anything from M&S - yes love that's because we can't afford to! I could spend those vouchers 100 times over, no problem there, just the choosing.0 -
it's a scary thought ivyleaf but pleased it's fixed and the workings are working to full pelt once again. Long may that boiler continue!
While we were away we visited Eden Project. There was a very large sculpture made from household electrical items that had been discarded. It prompted a discussion with the little people about easy come, easy go but they took it on to the fact that we had umpteen fridge freezers in the past few years. Having explained that a few of them were second hand that would have ended up rubbish had we not got the last bit of life out of them we eventually came to the decision that things aren't meant to last. We figured that the companies would go out of business if they made things that would last and last. We felt that it wasn't right and took us back to the easy come, easy go idea, especially as it was making such a negative impact on the world we live in. Canny kids.
Possession I hope you're busy in a nice way and not busy in a frantic way. I hope you're ok and enjoying sorting, making new environments and embracing your new start.
Our day started with oven baked egg, ham and cheese (in the yorkshire pudding tin) with a round of toast. It was yummy. I am about look at the Tuscan way of living and diet, especially looking at their enthusiasm for using beans in their cooking, and some scenery
I had 10 hours sleep over night and it was very much needed. I feel better but my nose it red raw and starting to get dry skin around it. Any ideas of how to treat it?
Going to infuse water with lemon, raspberries, strawberries and mint in a moment so will use the left over bit of lemon to clean the microwave. Thanks0 -
fuddle When my nose gets sore from being blown/wiped I find putting Vaseline on the sore areas works very well, and doesn't sting. I put a bit on after each wipe!
You are quite right about appliances not being made to last now! It's known as "built-in obsolescence". Disgraceful, isn't it?
I remember reading something about it several years ago in which a cooker manufacturer said that, yes indeed, cookers nowadays were only made to last a maximum of about 8 years, and made out that it was because "after eight years, the housewife [that mythical creature!] is tired of her old cooker and wants a new one."
Er, NO, actually, after eight years we're just really getting to know our cooker and how it will behave when cooking various recipes, i.e. whether it will need a longer or shorter time, or a higher or lower oven temperature, than the recipe says!!
My own cooker was bought when we moved here in 1983. I dread it dying because a new one will be very expensive and won't last half as long as this one.0 -
Fuddle, how long do you bake the egg, ham and cheese for please?Spend less now, work less later.0
