    Morning all

Stilty - I'm so glad the funeral went as well as these things can x

What a week! Thanks for all your thoughts and a huge thanks to Kidkat who's been fab with the support over on FB - much appreciated, especially considering how much you've got going on in your own life at the moment x

I was saddened to see the arguments on here again, I don't comment on things like this normally and am fully aware that mentioning it is dragging it back up but when I wanted to post for support I felt I couldn't due to the "tone" of the thread....I hope others weren't put off as this thread and the people on it are absolute stars.

Mum is now in The Royal London hospital following neurosurgery yesterday, still very early days and we don't know if there's any permanent brain damage but the surgeon is confident the op went as well as it could. I'm at home today as my Aunt is taking my Dad in to the hospital - my sister managed to get home yesterday for a few hours but we've been rushing back and forth. We know she's going to be in for weeks at the least so I need to make some adjustments to family/work life so I can go support Dad and be at the hospital as much as I can.

In other news, Jasper - our 3 legged boy is doing well - he's got a slight repository infection now but we were warned the stress could trigger one. He's back for a check up and stitches should come out on Tuesday and then later in the week the kittens need to go in to be neutered......

It's certainly not been a dull start to the year.

Stilty glad the funeral went so well and that you had chance to speak to your FIL.

Pooky hope your mum continues to improve.

Fuddle I do think manufacturers of heating systems should respond a lot faster in such cold weather.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

    Hello everyone,

Good to see you back mar :)

((((((((((Pooky)))))))))) so very sorry you felt you couldn't post on here when you really needed to. Great to hear your mum's op went well. Sending positive thoughts to you all and thinking about you all. Good to hear about kittie.

DH cleared the big stack of dishes and has gone back to bed. I slept in and will potter with essentials and rest in between. Its DH's birthday very soon and school holidays in a week and I really want to shake off this illness before then. I am just letting the kids have lots of screen time for once. Feel like I am just giving into it all.
Cats have slept downstairs for years but stripey cat keeps grumbling loudly at night waking us up. Let him sleep next to me last night and he curled up quietly and was a happy catty. DH reckons its territorial as both old boys are in all the time in this cold weather and I think he likes the warmth for his back. I don't like cats on beds but he is old and rules need to be bent sometimes.

Pooky I understand what you are saying and agree fully. I had to say something because I was put off from coming onto the thread too. Is that fair? Non of you knew what I was having to put up with. Non of you know the history, or at least my side of it because I haven't shared it out of respect for everyone.

I can't apologise for the message I put on here publicly either. I won't be bullied in secret and by me putting the message on publicly I have received no further PM's.

This is a place for everyone and that includes me. I am not the type of person to suffer in silence and now I don't have to because you are all aware, now it can stop.

I realise I risked alienating you all by bringing it to everyone's attention but I think if it wasn't me involved, you would think carefully about advising someone to just take the hits, silently.

    Hi,
Stilty glad everything went OK and you had some time with FIL

Have read through the posts but I haven't taken it all in, think I have brain fog ! This week has been a long week ,real job plus worked to many shifts at pub as manager is away and owner is to tight to pay for a stand in !!! Hence why I have been there every spare hour I have ,things that were sorted example staff went wrong so had to sort out ,so that plus banking ,floats, stock, sorting nasty customers out who thought they could get away with intimidation of new staff ....my head is spinning ....never mind only 2 more days, back there tonight and tomorrow night ..tonight there is a party on,have left other staff to sort today fingers crossed they do everything right ,I am due to start at 7 but just waiting for a call to say something s gone wrong .....lol think I may be to old for all this:rotfl:

So I am hoping that kids don't have any hard homework this weekend ,dh is working also and has just rang to say he may be stuck at work till god knows when tonight ....joy of joys :(

    Wish me luck xx

Can all this be left now please. finally? There are people on this forum who have, for whatever reason, come to rely on it for support and are not interested in who said what to who. I don't often post but really this has become the online equivalent of picking at a scab.

Glad your mum is holding her own Pooky, and glad you managed to have some time with your FIL Stilty. Difficult times.
I'm up to my eyeballs in packing and dismantling furniture etc, although I seem to have gained furniture and house gubbins too, not quite sure how all that has worked. I think I'm neutral in terms on money spent at least. I did resort to giving away a big armchair for free as it had no takers for weeks (and surprise surprise as soon as it was free it was snapped up in a few minutes). However we bought it secondhand for about £15 so can't complain. DS's cabin bed is being collected tonight and that is the last of the big furniture which needed to go.
We've had a bit of a setback with the house move, we would have had a completion date by now but just as we were getting ready to exchange it was discovered that there was an issue with the deeds of our house, there had been a mistake when the land registry did the original transfer in 1990 and it wasn't picked up when we bought the house 12 years ago. It should be all sorted as the Land Registry have found the plan, but they can't email it, it has to be sent by DX so it has delayed matters a bit. It's a pain because I have lots to arrange and can't do it until we have a date. Grrr.

Evening all hope everyone is fine.
A question for you pls. I have bought blackout blinds and have them up but there is light coming in at the sides and the top. This is an issue for me as I work nights so would like my room to be as dark as possible. Was thinking about buying Velcro to stick to the window and the blinds which would still mean I can open and close my window but am a bit stuck as to what to put at the top. My window looks onto the front so can be seen by all so has to look kinda respectable and I do also have long thick curtains up. Does anyone have opinions on the Velcro and/or a solution to the bit at the top.
    Thanks in advance xx

    Hi Shanks

I have black out curtains and I find the same. May I suggest a pelmet. The old fashioned wooden type, like a box, not the curtain type. I would try googling to find out how to do and if you have no luck on there try make do and mend. I think Grey Queen will come up with your answer.

I have got used to the light round mine now. I got mine mainly as my bedroom window is due east. The sun rises in my eyes. There are certain times of the year when this is very early like around 3 am. I find they keep my room nice and warm too.

Yes I agree, when my children were small and we stayed a lot at my parents, my dad made a box pelmet for our room and it made a huge difference
