Congratulations on both counts Softstuff!
After only a couple of hours sleep I am not feeling at my best, particularly since I drove 10 miles to a Lidl today to see if I could grab one of their specials (DS wants his new bedroom to have a New York theme and Lidl were doing a NY wall mural for only £10) but they'd run out. Made me a bit grumpy really. Might just grump for the rest of the day.0 -
Congrat Softstuff hope you will be very happy in your new home. Also many happy returns have a large slice of virtual cake from me xx
Have a nice time Mrs LW hope zebra cheers up at the sight of granny x0 -

(And any other lovely OS'ers of course - but don't all rush at once!).
I have gained so much knowledge from you all over the years - I lurk but don't post very often so this is my chance to repay you!

That is really very kind of you, thank you.
It's fascinating. I have miner in my family, which I knew on my Mam's side but didn't realise it on my Dad's side. I also have a dress maker, farmer and milliner in my tree. I get a bit overwhelmed especially as the further back I go there seems to be more and more offspring that I am itching to explore.0 -
Congratulations Softstuff. And happy birthday!
I've been without a shower since I moved in nearly 18 months ago. I'm hoping to have one fitted by summer...
My fingers are crossed you get your shower. I'm just thankful we're at the tailend of summer here. In the high temperatures it was a 3 shower a day situation if you did anything as strenuous as move! And the new house has no air con, which would have made things worse, so heading for winter is wonderful timing really.
Possession, I'd bet with masking tape and black chalkboard paint you could do one heck of a NY mural.... but then I have been known to be overly optimistic sometimes
Thanks for the well wishes, now if anyone is free for a spot of house cleaning I can offer cheap red wine, fruit cake and your very own ragSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

Might be out your way for work sometime this year - in which case I'll happily volunteer, but hopefully you'll be done by then
I'd hope so! Let me know where abouts you'll be, if it's not very distant we could arrange the first antipodean OS meet up.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Congrats on all the house related stuff, soft stuff....and belated birthday doodahs.
I've got to take my purry boy to the vets for stitch removal this morning and then I'm going back to bed for a few hours as I'm exhausted. Mum wasn't great yesterday but fingers crossed for some improvement today. I'm not back at the hospital until Thursday now so should be able to shake this cough I've developed overnight....my body is saying stop, so I will listen."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Anyone have any tips for cleaning an oven and the racks in it? So far I've tried gumption, sugar soap soaking and washing soda, not to mention a whole lot of hot water, washing up liquid, long soaking and intense scrubbing. A couple of hours didn't even make a difference. It's a nearly new oven in the new house, but I think the owners liked greasier food  I daren't try the mr muscle oven cleaners, I've already been suffering lungwise with the dust around the flat.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

Baking soda poured all the oven then spray with malt vinegar or any that you have. Leave to soak for a few mins.
Doesn't hurt your lungs and cuts through grease0 -
I seem to remember soaking the racks in the bath with biological washing powder and then scrubbing with aluminium scourers NOT nylon ones.
Inside I found that wiping out with a vinegar soaked cloth every time I walked past it eventually dealt with the problem. I couldn't face spending hours staring into it. I think I also steamed it by putting a tray of boiling water in when it was on, which helps soften everything up.
Cleaning when warm (with the vinegar-soaked cloth) is definitely more effective than cleaning when cold. (The oven, not you).0
