Congrats Softstuff and Possession  May you and your families be very happy in your new homes.

And belated birthday wishes softstuff :)

Sheila I would think you'd have to pay for the glasses that have been ordered :( My opticians ask for a hefty deposit at the time of ordering, because the glasses are no use to anyone else. good luck anyway x

Softstuff - when I was a single mum I bought a second hand cooker. It looked OK the evening I viewed it stored outside in the carport. When it came home the pristine condition was because it was encased in grease - yuk. I spent a week getting it clean - leaving it in soak in the baby bath while I was at work.
My parents came round at the weekend & my DS1 told my mum what a good scrubber I was - my Dad had to go out the room 'cos he was laughing so much! Good Luck with yours
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Well, we've discovered that these people were big fans of deep frying. I'd be tempted to post a picture of the top of the huge larder unit, if I thought it wouldn't make a few people hurl. Hubby cleaned a patch of it about 10cm x 30cm... with about half an hour of concerted scrubbing up a ladder. I'm not sure the previous occupants understood the concept of cleaning at all.

This is taking a while, but then again, it's tiny spurts of cleaning the new house, whilst moving our entire belongings in small loads of a Fiat 500 in the evening after spending the day renovating the flat! Tomorrow, hubby is working from home, builder friend can see to himself and I'm spending the day cleaning the new house. *phew*

Also didn't realise until today how many addresses there were to change. Some change easily, some not so much.

Hope you're doing better than me Possession.

I'm on my second year of having my mail forwarded softstuff, and there is still the odd thing that turns up that I haven't changed. Some of it (e.g. catalogues) I can't work out how to change! My vendors only forwarded for 6 months, so I'm returning credit card, pension and investment paperwork as 'gone away' for the second time in some cases.

As for the grease - wash the windows ... when I did mine the smell of cooking was unbelievable. If they were keen on frying I'd seriously consider cleaning everything with industrial degreaser (the kind of stuff mechanics use). I won't tell you anymore horror stories... but lets just say I have no carpets and the kitchen was ripped out completely within two months.
  • The cost if the lenses often reflects the quality of the lense. I bought the bargain brand once and they just didn't work for me. I wound up having to shell out for the crib all brand. Worth every penny. Had to pay for the useless pair and the crizals.

I've done very little today Softstuff. Had DD off school today, after being off once last week and DS for 4 days last week. If I had a job I'd have had to take 5 days off in 2 weeks.
I've done my mail redirection, taken the dog to the vet, sorted 3 bags of clothes for the charity collection (which hasn't turned up) and cleaned the bin. Oh and gone to look at a car since we've decided DH probably needs once now that we're having to move so much further away from the station. It was only £600 but it's difficult to judge as I'm definitely no mechanic.
  • When I took the dog out at 8 ish and got back just after 9 there was a message on the answer phone and it was the opticians to say my glasses are ready for collection......

I did the right thing and went in this morning and paid for them , I just couldnt tell them that I didnt want them , they did a very thorough eye test on me because of diabetes , and done eye pressure test , plus they did book me in within 5 days as the diabetic team told me I need glasses asap and to go get them checked.......
It didnt feel right to let them down beings they are a small business in a small town, im very pleased with them , cost me £247 , and I can now at least see better when , reading, driving , and on the laptop.........

I did notice when I went in to collect them that the stand where all the glasses were on was full so its makes you wonder whether people dont have the money to collect them or theyve decided to go elsewhere , because the opticians dont take a deposit and plus they give you the prescription straight away................I did ask the girl who served me in the opticians how come specsavers are so much cheaper and she said its because they do all their glass work in their shop , where as smaller opticians have to have theirs sent away to be done........

Seems very quiet on the OS thread this last week , I hope it hasnt got anything to do with the kezlou/fuddle fall out.......When you get a fall out on the thread in the past it tends to stop some of the regulars posting , pity really because it hasnt got anything to do with other posters ........

Softstuff.....I really feel for you with the state that cooker is in , I cant get my head a round why people dont clean their cookers because you wouldnt eat your food on a plate that hasnt been washed for a month , but they cook their food in a filthy oven...
Possession....Sounds as if your ticking your jobs off as you go , that way you wont have hundreds of jobs to do on the last few days........I hope your all well ...Sheila

No Sheila nothing to do with anyone else just quiet because suffering side effects from cancer drug. Almost back to how it was when I first started. At least I have other medication to combat side effects now. All duly taken.

I don't think this very cold weather is helping. Keep sitting knitting and watching catch up TV. Think I may start on next Christmas stuff soom as going to Malta in July means taking Christmas presents then.

We have just been Ald! they have lots of stuff for hanging baskets brrrr poor plants in this weather just got myself more daffodils. I can pretend it is spring when they come out. The ones I got over a month ago are down to last few flowers. Not bad for £1.99. Will have lots of daffs for garden if we get a house.
