Softstuff and Possession - Congratulations! I do hope you are very happy in your new homes.

Well, I survived a weekend in London, met up with a few different friends and my brother and sister in law came from Basingstoke to meet us too. Only problem was the sleeper train - a very strange experience and one that I don't wish to repeat. We were sliding up and down the beds when the train went round bends!

Anyway, DD and I are loaded with colds and planning another early night before my cousin and her husband come to stay for the weekend, we are going to watch Scotland/Wales rugby on Sunday so need to be well for that.

Hope you are all well and looking forward to the springtime.

I'm on my second year of having my mail forwarded softstuff, and there is still the odd thing that turns up that I haven't changed. Some of it (e.g. catalogues) I can't work out how to change! My vendors only forwarded for 6 months, so I'm returning credit card, pension and investment paperwork as 'gone away' for the second time in some cases.

As for the grease - wash the windows ... when I did mine the smell of cooking was unbelievable. If they were keen on frying I'd seriously consider cleaning everything with industrial degreaser (the kind of stuff mechanics use). I won't tell you anymore horror stories... but lets just say I have no carpets and the kitchen was ripped out completely within two months.

Mail forwarding here is pretty dear (I guess not that dear, but we're pretty skint now, so it seems it!), so I'm hoping I can get everything shifted before we sell the flat. That should give us a bit of leeway. And we tried hard to sort of organise and minimise things long before this.

My husband says it's scary how by not cleaning and so forth, these owners have managed to almost ruin very expensive things. The carpets are coming up in the bedrooms anyway (hubby has a dust allergy, so that was planned) and the rest is tile. Many things need replacing, as we can. We'll be sleeping in the front room temporarily at this stage. Thanks for the reminder of the windows, honestly I had forgotten and wouldn't have thought of it right now :o

Possession, everything seems to take a long time for me, can't imagine trying to juggle a family with it. Wishing I'd moved into your house though, given how you're cleaning it! The bins at our new place....

We should be moving a mattress over to sleep in the new house tonight (because otherwise the fumes here from the bathroom waterproofing today are apt to kill us!). That'll be a relief for hubby since breakfast for him this morning consists of some strange cold soaked oats, cold tea from the fridge and an apple he can't bite into with no knife.... the kitchen stuff went over to the house yesterday :rotfl:

I couldn't leave a dirty house Softstuff. Must be my mother in me! And the buyers are buying our big (lovely, sob sob) American fridge freezer too so am currently cleaning that. I never realised quite how many boxes and shelves it had (which I guess means I've never cleaned it very well before!).
    Hope you're alright nursemaggie.

Exciting stuff, just got matched for a great sounding job which basically takes all the skills from my old job and puts them into a vet/animal online business for someone who loves pets. Sounds ideal. And it's home based. And part-time. Shouldn't get my hopes up though.

I moved out of a spotless house (I mean cleaner than it had EVER been) as I had a gap between moving out and moving in due to my vendors choosing the busiest week of the year to move (August bank holiday) and movers all being booked. So after my stuff went into storage I did a deep clean.

Luckily as I'd had to arrange storage and find somewhere to stay, I decided to give myself a few days to clean the new house. I needed it... (and more probably). By the time the furniture arrived I'd had a skip delivered and ripped out all the carpets and the underlay...

Softstuff when we moved into this house the wall above the cooker was literally thick with grease which had set solid. Even a scourer didn't shift it because it just got clogged in seconds. But by chance as we were decorating another room I had a bucket of sugar soap solution with me and wiped the grease with that - and it came off like magic!

I don't know if you call it the same thing in your neck of the woods - it's the cleaning stuff that decorators use when prepping and it's "dirt" cheap
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

The cost if the lenses often reflects the quality of the lense. I bought the bargain brand once and they just didn't work for me. I wound up having to shell out for the crib all brand. Worth every penny. Had to pay for the useless pair and the crizals.

Nice to see you posting wondercollie. I thought of you and wondered if you were ok.

I have a glasses cleaning cloth which extols the wonder of Crizal lenses. I saw a TV ad for them the other day, for the first time.

Hope you feel better soon mar and Maggie xx

Well done with all the cleaning, softstuff and Possession. I'm doing mine very gradually. (I'm not moving house, it just needs doing). I'd love to do some decorating, especially in the bathroom (which has had various paint samples on the walls for years now) but physically can't manage it. We did get some new vinyl for its floor y'day which OH will lay as best he can over the next couple of days as we're having visitors on Monday and the current flooring got spoiled when the radiator burst a year ago - it's been cleaned over and over again but just doesn't look nice any more.
  • Hi all, this thread won't be quiet now, you know how much I whitter!!! Nice to be home and doing routine things again, even making a pasta bake from leftovers in the fridge gives satisfaction when you've been away a while. Zebra was poorly on Tuesday so I kept him home from nursery and spent all day with the two of us walking round the house with maraccas singing 'The Sun has got his Hat on' which made him laugh like mad amd shake his maracca wildly. He was better on Wednesday and I took him in to nursery and met his one to one lady, what a lovely place it is, happy babies, kindness and warmth from the nursery helpers and smiles from Zebra so left him happy and contented.

SOFTSTUFF and POSESSION so very pleased for both of you that new homes are yours in the very near future, it's trying times during a house move but super feelings when you've finally got the keys in your hands and the removal men are gone and you can close that front door from the inside for the very first time, so hoping that all goes smoothly for you and your families, best of luck.

We now have four snowdrops on the front lawn and my little primrose plant has five tightly furled flower buds, I'll be very happy when they open and get He Who Knows to take a photo to post, tough little plant deserves a little recognition. The P u s s y Willow here is grey and fluffy and lots of wild things like brambles and elder are greening up and have discernable leaf buds beginning to open too, seems like it might be thinking of being spring??? WoooHooo!!!

Nice to see you back MrsL :) We have a little clump of snowdrops in our garden too and a couple of pink Christmas roses. The daffodils are poking up through the lawn and there are 2 little yellow crocuses trying to open up at the front of the house. Spring must be just around the corner....
Talking about specs etc., I saw an advert the other night for one of those laser eye surgery places which said they guarantee 'better than 20/20 vision'. Is it me or is 20/20 vision the best you can have?
