Sheila, I have eye tests annually, and have had both driving & readers for several years, my last test showed both need changing and I shopped around for Vari's at Boots, inde opticians, Asdas Tescos & Specsavers. I went with Specsavers on price - £250 for both pairs inc. tinted & anti-reflective, the choice of frames was very good and I was very pleased with the service I got. I would ring consider your opticians and speaking to them about cancelling, or maybe your DIL could speak to them?

Thanks for your reply , I do feel bad about asking to cancel, and they are the local town opticians which I know I will need in the future for eye tests...To go to specsavers is 56 mile round trip......They said last Wednesday that my new glasses will be here this week , they will be stuck with a pair of glasses that are of no use to anyone but me ........Decisions decisions......Sheila

Congratulations Softstuff and Possession on house completions.....Softstuff, had a meetup in Brisbane in 2008 with Aussie Lass, hope to be back in Queensland sometime in 2016, saving my pennies already, maybe we can meet then.

Sheila....I should imagine that you will have to pay for the glasses you have ordered.....I know that you would definitely have to do so at my local opticians, maybe they are a little softer in your town.

If it DOES happen, I'm pretty sure I won't be far from you at all

Great, then we can do a traditional local lunch. More wine than food, with a large dessert ;).

Meanmarie, you're booked for the official 2016 QLD OS meet. Depending of course where in QLD you are in comparison!

Thank you all so much for the oven cleaning advice. And also for the new home/ birthday wishes. At 9.30 last night I had run out of ideas and was ready for the flamethrower. Given what I have on hand and the variety of advice, I think I'll soak the trays again in soda crystals, but for longer, then try a paste of bicarb followed by vinegar for the oven, then also steam the oven with it on a bit and clean again. If I can get to a shop today, I'll get an aluminium scourer. At this stage if I turn it on, it'll smoke the kitchen out.

Never seen anything like it in my life, was debating with hubby last night how you get an oven in that state... the only thing I could come up with was repeatedly basting it and each wire of each shelf in treacle toffee over a period of years :rotfl: Thing is, it's the same damned model that got installed in my flat kitchen this week, so it's not an old oven, I'd say months rather than years. I just took out an oven 15 years old (a few years in my house, the rest in a friends) and it was clean. And I don't generally clean my oven.

After living 8 years with a terrible kitchen (old, barely anything working, tiny) and spending those 8 years polishing that turd if you'll pardon the expression, it really gets my goat when someone who has all mod-cons can't take care of it. End of rant :o

Congratulations Possession. You've got to do what I did at this stage, go out and buy beer and wine. They may be the most useful things to help with your move.
