Hello all - just de-lurking for a while even though I read regularly.
I thought you might like to hear my good news to help cheer everyone up. Sorry to hear about all the poorlies and those having a tough time.
A couple of years ago we were caught out by the flash floods, and our patio flooded with dirty water from the street above us. The water went through the air bricks but stopped just below the level of back door, thankfully. Anyhow, due to some strange circumstances, we have had a visit from the water board, and they have decided to treat us to a new flood defence type back door and non-return valve air bricks!!!! For nothing!!! (well not exactly as we've paid our water rates for years)

Great to hear they're going to be doing something to protect your home Mrs CD - as long as they're doing something to stop the road flooding too!!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

Oh joy, Oh happiness we have a builder free day today and didn't have to get up and processed before 8 O clock for once. It's -5 down here in Hampshire, very pretty to look at the frost and patterns of ice on the outside of the double glazing but jolly cold!!! I have an almost done bathroom, the tiling is finished, the shower is up on the wall but not connected, the heated towel rail is installed and warm and the shower screen is fitted too. It all looks smart and we could actually have a bath last night which was utterly delightful. Thank you all for being patient with my moaniness, we still have new tank in the loft on Monday and extractor fan installation on Tuesday to plough our way through but I can see light at the end of the tunnel and thatis making for a less disgruntled me!!! You are all wonderful, where on earth would I be without you all?
Dammit SOFTSTUFF I knew someone would realise that the duckies were really for me!!!
DD, Hubs and Zebra arrive this evening and I was finally able to clear the room and get it ready for them in the evening yesterday and thankfully all the tools have gone now so I've been able to give upstairs a good blitzing too. Looking forward to many, many cuddles, Lyn xxx.0 -
Glad it's nearly finished Mrs LW :j Enjoy your Zebra!

Hello folks
All part of the service Mrs LW! Soon all be done and you can get back to normal. Have a fab weekend with little Zebra.
Great news MrsCD. Nice to see you, no need to go back to lurking, join in the fun
Glad you finally have the funeral date stilty. Did you have a nice meal out last night?
Had a very grumpy DS10 on my hands this morning. He didn't get to sleep for ages last night and isn't great at getting up at the best of times. He isn't 100% but well enough for school. I wanted to excuse him from swimming but he was having none of it. I felt for him but was also glad to pack him off at the same time. I pressed my face to his class window on impulse and he was laughing and chatting to friends, he saw me and scowled! Kids eh?
apologies in advance for a rant......
DH has had some very disappointing news at work. The promotion he was promised (no more pay but more responsibility etc, good for his CV) for months now has been withdrawn because of a silly colleague with a bee in her bonnet. They had a big restructure, redundancies etc last year and said colleague didn't like various things in the new office even down to where her desk was positioned. DH was supposed to be line managing her and a new person from Monday but as she has complained to HR that it's not fair (despite DH being there years longer, having more experience, boss saying he really wants him for the new role etc) and they have told the boss to placate her. Now there will be no middle layer of management (DH's would-have-been post) and their dept will be the only one run in this way, not practical at all. DH has worked very hard for this, currently doing management training they arranged for him and this is the 2nd time he has been promised another role, kept dangling for months and then it be retracted.
Anyhow I am pottering today, don't feel like going shopping. Decided to do some decluttering in the warm with lots of hot drinks, good for the soul and the house!0 -

sq what an absolute nightmare, they cant keep doing that to him. Stupid woman
hahaha i embarrass mine all the time especially my eldest, but you know it is our job to torment them lol
kidcat that is absolutely disgraceful, report them i would!
had ds2 off school yesterday, school sent him home day before with severe earache. Poor thing got doped by both me and the school, then it spread to his other ear. So yesterday we spent most of the day watching lego and then walking with dinosaurs the bbc series. Love that programme, so we snuggled up together. Sent him back to school today and so far so good. To be honest i think something is going on as he just hasn't been "right". Hes stressed with tests, but also a couple of kids have been tormenting him and calling him a baby or saying he's cheating because he improved so much with his reading. Ginny the little monkey recited his alphabet fully with no assistance and then went to school and started telling everyone about tectonic plates and magnetic poles . I was so overjoyed, his teachers hadn't allowed him to speak to take part in the main lesson because they thought it wouldn't look good in front of the school governors. So a surprise little visit by the governors arrived just as little man stood up in front of everyone and said "miss earthquakes move in waves .... " He then immediately sat down very quietly and carried on drawing his earthquake scene. his teachers were not impressed, i just shook my shoulders and said he adores science, which he does. He came home to 2 raspberry plants and a climbing rose ready for him to plant in the garden. He loves the garden and i know this will help him focus and enjoy creating life.
This week has been very hard emotionally etc but i have been trying to focus on the house and so far so good. Washing up to date and lots of home made food eaten and adored especially by ds2 and his bowl of cornbeef stew and dumplings. DS1 demolished half a pan of it and then asked for more lol So its safe to say his appetites finally back lol0
