eek just been referred to gastroenterology, waiting for an appointment, not looking forward to the procedures after this. Are you sure mouth down is easier? - I gag very easily, dentist is a nightmare

Sending you special (((HUGS))) nuttyp What a lot you have going on at the moment! Best wishes to your DMum, and huge congrats to DD. The camera down the throat is much less scary than it sounds. At our hospital they give you a choice of a sedative or an anaesthetic spray to the throat. I've had the sedative both times I've had it done, as you can then have a cup of tea straight afterwards ;) as well as not worrying about what's happening!

Stilty So sorry there's a bit of a wait for the funeral. Such a difficult, "in-between" time. On the good side, it sounds as if the work that been done to the house will make a huge difference.

Maggie - Still not found the original spray, but bought him a different one y'day. No snoring from him last night!!!!

Lyn - I feel your pain about the messy carpet. DS replaced a leaking radiator in the living room the other day, and the old one was very heavy to carry out of the house; DS and DH carried it between them, and had blocked up the ends with wads of paper towel, but it was so heavy that one end got dropped and the paper towel moved, and there's now sludge on the hall carpet  I've cleaned the area twice, first with Stardrops and then with Vanish "Heavy use" carpet cleaner, but it still hasn't come off properly :( We have recently bought an actual carpet cleaning machine which is still in its box, so we'll try it out on the hall carpet! just need a day when we both feel up to it!

ETA Maryb Just read your post. With a sedative, if you do gag at all, you won't mind. Honestly.

Ivyleaf did you move the sofa bet it's under there? Brilliant it works, keep changing the spray because the body gets used to them. I hope you both got a good nights sleep.

Maryb I assure you it is much easier down than up. I have had the lot including the gastrectomy for cancer. I had a top down into my stomach for 4 days.I would rather repeat all of the rest than the colonoscopy. I did not have a sedative ask for one. The only problem with the tube down my nose and into the stomach was it interfered with my cpap machine so I got no sleep. You will be OK.

Have the sedative. After 3 of them, I remember absolutely zilch, zero recollection past "I'll just pop this sedative in here and you...." zzzzzzzz!

    Good morning one and all

Big congrats to Miss Nutty, brilliant news!:j Hope your mum's appointment goes ok tomorrow nutty.

Remember with these procedures, they are generally not half as bad as they sound, uncomfortable at worst. Sounds like a sedative will do the trick anyway. The medical things I have dreaded the most have turned out to be the least awful. I had no problems with 4 wisdom teeth extractions (at same time) or a mammogram for example despite the horror stories from colleagues a the time. Other small things like a verruca removed were very painful... the verruca was a very big and stubborn one mind you and I needed crutches after as I had a massive hole left. A slipped disc hurt more than childbirth! I would never have realised.
Just been to get a few food bits and pick up prescriptions that are not ready as the doc was off sick. I am fine for my stuff but hoping DH is ok for his painkillers. If they are not ready tomorrow, he will have the weekend as well to wait. Sometimes there are out of stock at the chemist too so I am going to ask before they process the prescription as we have a choice of chemists in the area. Just had an early lunch, as famished and will go out again soon to a different part of town to buy other bits and bobs where they are cheapest.

With a colonoscopy, the worst part is the 48 hours of prep you have to do beforehand, i.e. One day following a low-residue diet from a limited list of very boring, bland foods, followed by 24 hours where you eat nothing but drink several litres of water with bowel prep stuff in it. The actual procedure itself, if you have the midazolam, is a doddle, and the tea and toast afterwards is heavenly.

Thanks for the reassurance. I've been referred to Thomas's and was planning on going by train. Better get OH to come and get me if I'm having a sedative (which I most definitely will!!!) otherwise I might decide in a dreamlike state to go somewhere completely different rather than meekly going home

Huh, you got fed after yours? I have the colonoscopy and gastroscopy at the same time, twice now. Never even got offered a drink.

The bowel prep is the worst part of the entire process. The first time was due a GI bleed, so no prep required. The check up three months later involved the prep and it was horrible.

Have no memories of either set. Last words I remember were "ever had fentanyl? ever had versed?" When I said never, he said "you have now" Next thing I know, the husband is taking me home.

I've had fentanyl. My one clear memory is of the anaesthetist talking to me in recovery telling me I'd reacted to it (think he hoped I wouldn't remember) and me telling him to get the Bl**dy needle out now (they'd put another line in with something else instead) as he'd hit a nerve. He wanted to argue until I started taking it out myself, and the nurse took over - I was cold and shaking, which is what happens when they hit a nerve. Now I refuse to sign my consent forms unless they agree to no opiates as I'm not as keen on working my way through the list to find one I get on with as the anaethetists seem to be. (and it's only a minor op, paracetamol works fine).
