love the shelves fuddle they are so nice and neat. I see it is as small as mine. I don't know how people with big families managed in these little houses. At least the street was not full of cars like they all are these days. They could play out safely.

Glad you are not in pain with your foot today Sheila. You will be able to get out to the chickens soon. A few years ago you would still have been in hospital.

Lovely shelves Fuddle. Virtually a pantry by themselves!
Sheila we won't be moving far at all, possibly just down the road, but to a smaller house. Managed to dump some more boxes at the in laws tonight.

On a couple of occasions I bought some spreadable butter, because it seemed more natural than margarine. Cursing at the price of it, I looked at the ingredients list - some of these spreadable butters are only 60-70% butter, the rest being oil and water!

Then someone on this thread (I forget who) stated a case of the bleeding obvious - why pay two or three quid a tub for this stuff when you can get an ordinary block of butter for just under a quid and keep it in a butter dish on your worktop?????
And that is what I now do - real spreadable butter at a more realistic price.

That's what we do now too nargle, probably switched over the same time as yourself :rotfl: I do find we use much more butter than we ever did spreadable marg. I have no idea why though.

Our house is tiny nursemaggie. You can probably tell that by the way of not able to have the shelves exactly above the radiator. The cupboard door won't open if we did. As you all know my foibles, you can imagine how annoying that is for me ;) :rotfl:

Well last night should have been my posh night out to the care awards but I couldn't go in the end as DH had a meeting in Portsmouth so couldn't do the school pick up for me. I was stood at the gates as my mates were boarding the train for Bristol. They have had a good night by all accounts (didn't win) I will catch up on Monday. I had best re list my dress on eb4y but I may just keep it's tapestry, chair cover wannabe self for a rainy day.

Speaking of which, the rain has played havoc with my plans for the weekend. We were going to go leaf kicking with the camera to try and get a nice shot of the girls to frame and put on the wall. I fear it's going to be off today as it's deluge after deluge.

DH came in last night with a tin, yes, tin of jus-rol pastry. Seems it will make 6 croissants. Cost him £1.50 and will cost me the electricity to bake them. He's so frugal  He does try my patience :rotfl:

Have a good day all :)

Hi everyone, one very poorly OS here. Managed Monday to visit the doctor. I was diagnosed with IBS some tie ago and now I am at a stage where things are getting more tricky to maintain. I have what can only be described a leakage all the time. Very embarrassing and tiring. SO I finally spoke to my doctor who assures me it can all be sorted........ I have a major sore throat, bad cough and feel like I have been worn out. I managed to schedule yesterday and today off work for a bit of rest.
Although yesterday I took my mum and her friend to Southampton to catch the cruise ship. They are going around the med for 18 days. Nice to see my mum all excited and happy. DD and her fianc! will be collecting them, that way we know they are there safely and we don't worry about mum getting lost.

We are slightly in the poo poo stage at the moment, we need to be extremely frugal for the next few months. OH car had 2 new tyres this morning at £150, it need a new rim which will be in next week at over £70 and the power steering is leaking oil and Thursday this will be another £300. What can we do, OH drives nearly 50 miles to work daily and we have to have the car.

FUDDLE I love the shelves you have, so organised.

Re schools, any school is good it is if your child wishes to learn. We have 2 schools int he area and the poshes one here has one of the worse drug problems ever. See having no money helps as they cant afford them!!

Not sure is it will be this thurday or next when the aldi voucher is issued. I noticed they now acceot credit cards there.... helpful if you have pre paid cards.

time for a sleep I think, take care everyone x

    Hi everyone

((((((((((nutty)))))))))) hope you feel better soon and empathies with the finances. Every week or even day here seems to bring another unplanned expense. We will all get through and what we pay out now won't be needed to be paid again if that makes sense? Hopefully some better months to follow so we can offset these times a bit. DH actually said "we can't afford a new x" the other day to our boys which is something he doesn't always say. Needs must, wants wait.

glad your foot is not painful now Sheila.

We had some good news in the post. DS10 passed an able student bursary exam for one of the secondary schools we like. Its only a £100 a year for educational purposes like books but means DS would have a strong chance of a place there. It is a smaller than average school in a poor housing estate but behaviour seems good, calm atmosphere, good teachers etc. No-one else in DS's class will be going there, most people haven't even heard of it. Everyone is going for the "best" schools in posher areas if they can get in or the local and definitely worse schools. I have as ever a plan B and a plan C!

I got up late, so tired but have been busy since and just sat down for a cuppa with the express desire to be left for a few mins. As soon as I say that everyone comes to ask me something!! Why oh why is that?

I need to get DS10 some next size trousers, he has split his in the gentlemen's area twice in the last few day, I will probably need to hem new ones as they will be too long, takes me ages but I won't spend money on that web stuff when I have needle and thread. At least I get out of the house for some peace and quiet if I go shopping!

He also bought home 4 school jumpers that his teacher found that has slid down the back of the coat pegs thing. He was down to one jumper and I was exasperated after digging down lost property bins more than once myself. I need that many for keeping up with washing and because he is always loosing them. They also remain in good enough condition for DS7 to wear and then a younger friend.

Boys have done a lot of their homework and DH has fixed our outside light (without being asked!) This afternoon I will assigning some chores too. Off to make a quick pitta lunch and pop to the shops I think.
  • Good afternoon everyone.
Love the shelves fuddle - so neat and organised. I must get my kitchen sorted.
(((hugs))) to all the poorlies - hope things improve for you soon.
I had an appointment at the local hospital for surgery on my right wrist (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) on Thursday. Got myself there early as instructed, completed all the paperwork, signed the consent form, got changed into the glamorous hospital gown and had right wrist marked with indelible purple pen so surgeon wouldn't make mistake!(:rotfl:)
Then I and the other ladies sat and waited for our turn. And waited.....and waited.....and waited!!! Almost 3 hours later we were told that there was a problem with theatre (burst pipe) so all operations cancelled and we should all go home.:eek:
Apparently we will be contacted with another appointment. :D
What a waste of time and money.
For one poor lady it was the 2nd time in a month that her surgery had been cancelled.
Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.
  • Hugs AOT, so dissapointing to get that far and then be told no after a long old wait. I so hope they give you a new appointment sooner rather than later, Lyn xxx.

Fuddle I never noticed the shelves were not quite in line with the radiator I was too busy having radiator envy and neatness envy. We will never have anything so neat we are both too untidy. It just looks so nice with the jars and the neat rows. It is a work of art.

Is your house Victorian too? That was what I mean about the big families I don't know where they put them all. We have plenty of room there are only the two of us. DS has the large bedroom with his big desk and computer in there. I have the single bedroom and have my computer in the tiny front room that we can't get either of the sofas in.

Mine is just piled high with all the things I have knitted for Christmas Presents. I should cast off on my 6th scarf only 4 more to go. Everyone gets scarves this year then I will have to buy enough yarn for next year as they will get hats and gloves next year and the colours probably wont be available.

Nutty so sorry your IBS is so bad. Is the new job too stressful or is the financial at the moment. I hope it all settles down. Both the financial and the IBS. Some people find cutting out wheat helps so it is worth a try.

Oh AOT it seems so common these days to have ops cancelled hope you get a new date soon.

SQ hope you are not in for as quick a growth spurt as I got with DS 39 he grew through 5 sizes of trousers in 11 months and the sixth time I went to my friends she said "haven't you got any school trousers for me" I said are you kidding he has grown 13 inches don't you think it is time he stopped?"

She had 3 boys and the first pairs fit her youngest and the last pairs fitted her eldest two years older than mine.

Hugs to those who need it.
