Jem I don't eat gluten, wheat or sugar, I eat little dairy and i drink rooibos tea which is naturally caffeine free and tastes like tea! After about 3 in the afternoon I have to drink decaff coffee otherwise I can't sleep (but tend not to have any). I drink soya milk and almond milk - except in coffee - but i do eat yogurt, cheese and cream.
Can you eat oats? my favourite breakfast food is oats soaked in a little soya milk, mixed with nuts and berries (I buy frozen raspberries and blueberries). By the time the berries are defrosted the oats have softened enough to eat. i stir cream into mine - but i don't have to. Eggs are good - bacon and eggs? Remember that saturated fat is no longer considered bad for you - in reasonable amounts. That theory is now totally discredited - but it takes time to break a way of thinking.
I guess you are going paleo - natural foods as they are grown. Either in the ground or by the animal.
Remember also that it was Messrs kellog who suggested we all ate sweet things for breakfast - I wonder why?
A typical eating day for me might be
Oats / bacon and egg for breakfast
Bacon and egg is also good for lunch. Homemade soup or salad. My favourite naughty lunch is a bag of plain crisps, chunk of cheese and an apple. Amazingly it keeps me going for hours. Instead of cheddar you could get vegetarian / vegan cheese. Check if goats or sheeps cheese is acceptable
On my homepage there are a few recipes for sweet things - and other things. it is a work in progress but might give you hope?
A blog I like, although it is vegan - which you don't have to be - is "Plant based Pixie" and under "favourites" she lists a whole load of others. Apart from anything else there are some amazing sweet stuff recipes. Investigate xylitol as a sugar substitute. Buckwheat flour, despite it's name, does not have wheat - not sure on the gluten.

Hi all, well ive had a day off from work and what did I end up doing...... grocery shop in mr A, not to be repeated - @ldi again next week. Then 4 loads of washing on the line, cooked sausage casserole for tea, cleaned all the house and then tonight we have been to look at a collage for DD in September. She is looking to do a teaching assistant job, and as she explained she volunteers in a primary school for half a day a week - the rest of the time is at collage - they were so impressed. Seams we will need to pay tuition fees of up to a thousand pounds a year for 2 years then she would be able to get student loan funding for the last 2 years. The final year is one day a week in a uni in the Lincoln area. So one happy girl here who finally knows what her hopes and dreams are. She wants to be with little people, specialising in the under 10 ages.
I am really proud my daughter has an ambition. No one can say she doesn't try, and to offer her only free time to get where she wants to be shows she is determined to succeed.
Sorry, just wanted to of load. OH is in football land. Well I think I need a well earned cup of tea. catch you tomorrow xBSC member 137

Belated congrats on your council commissioned piece Pooky.
Hope the college visit went well nutty - your DD has her head screwed on and will realise her dreams. You have every right to be very proud of her.
DH is also in footyland... recently both sons have also got really into playing, watching and talking football. I think DH had almost given up on them and now that's all I hear from the 3 of them!
Tomorrow I have nothing planned, lots I could do of course but I have decided to take myself off to the shops to have a browse more than anything but also to pick up a few things we need at the cheapest price.0 -

Morning,
Congrats to the Young Ms NuttyP!
Possession, it sounds like the cabbage recipe won't work, but perhaps stewed apples instead? Let us know what you do come up with. I like to keep ideas for meals that meat unusual requirements in mind in case I ever have someone I need to accommodate.
Jem, it sounds like a lot to take in. I have no doubt you'll find a new way of eating that does work, but it is bound to be an adjustment with such a long list. I think my first mission would be to find a good rotation of 6 or 7 meals to begin with, and then to find two or three treat type things and then worry about expanding into new horizons. First thing that comes to mind is a lovely cajun dish called Jambalaya, similar to a paella which should also fit your requirements.
Just taking a quick break to pop in. Its the first day without rain in ages so have popped a wash in. It is meant to rain this afternoon so have only done a small one. Best get back to it.x0 -
It's lovely to see so many people helping Jem. I must admit I'd be pretty lost too, but there is always helpful advice on here for any eventuality0

More stress with school - why do they have to make life so hard? DD's behaviour has been deteriorating (completely out of character) and it's all to do with her struggling as she is split between 2 classes - doing literacy and numeracy in the morning with reception and the afternoon with her peer group, never been happy about it but they have a numbers issue, and to be fair we thought the extra input on basics would help her, but emotionally she is struggling - had to go in and say it's not on, class teacher (morning) is not for budging, but DD will need a differentiated curriculum wherever she is so we have said it's got to be peer group class or we will flexi school and do literacy and numeracy at home in the morning - don't want to have to do this, it's hard enough with 2 disabled kids as it is but have to do what is right for DD and school solution is clearly not working poor little flower is so stressed and 5 year olds shouldn't have to worry about stress - going to see head on Monday morning - could live without having to fight and harass over everything.
Sorry for chuntering, just needed to get it out of my system.0 -
Stilty this isn't on and one of the reasons I was keen to leave support assisting. The little one I was supporting was supposed to be in his peer class after a couple of years in reception but the teacher managed to not have to differentiate his literacy and numeracy work when he finally moved on. The solution? It was to have me plan, implement, record, observe and assess all his lit and num. Not only that I withdrew the young man and did all that one-to-one. Remember I was not a qualified teacher but this was acceptable?
SEN has always been about differentiation for the purpose of inclusion. I have been out of the game for too long now so don't know how it has changed, but your little one really needs to have needs met in a way that enables her to feel settled, included and in a way that she can cope with. It should never be about staffing logistics. Keep us posted. I just wish I could be of more help. I am annoyed for you.0 -
Thanks fuddle - new legislation means it is all 'supposed' to be child/family wishes at the centre now but it's not happening here. Problem is she is so stressed about not being with all her friends from last year in the morning she can't keep a lid on her frustration behaviours and then when she gets with her peers in the afternoon she's been trying so hard all morning that she can't behave there either. And they are doing things all a*** about face too as problems emerge when they are sitting her down, yet they didn't flag that up til today when Physio was in school on Weds and could have been asked for some manual handling support then! Resources are so stretched that it could be half way through the next half term before physio is back in!
They'd better watch out though - they've woken up the mamma bear from hibernation early!0 -
Stilty, I am annoyed with you. DD shouldn't have to cope with this, you shouldn't have to deal with it. Stick to your guns 100%.
I know of several children in the boys' school in different year groups with a whole variety of different needs and as far as I am aware no child has ever been separated from their peers in this way. Children who need extra help for whatever reason are taken out of class for one to one or small group learning but then return to their usual class. The only time a child was in a younger class was one boy who really struggled in a previous school with behavioural problems which that school could not cope with. Our school put him in nursery, then reception before finally joining year 1 because that worked for that particular child. I have a friend with a child with multiple needs, physical, learning, behavioural and he is several years "behind" his peers and he still stays with his peers with excellent one to one support and is thriving.
Well my shopping trip wasn't that enjoyable. I came over all hot and sweaty. I think I am coming down with DH's cold and some shops had their heating on. Wandered around vaguely, bought a couple of pound shop bits, bread and milk and came home. I skimmed a red light through stupidness and not feeling great. I am crossing everything I don't get a ticket, our finances don't feel lucky lately! I am not telling DH in the hope nothing comes through the post.
DH just phoned to say work have told him to go home, he is coughing and spluttering germs all over them I guess. Yet another easy dinner planned and slumping on the sofa and an early night.0
