    Hi.

Fuddle: Yes I did go to the doctors. Guess what? My blood pressure is slightly raised. Just like it has been for the last 60 years at least. She has put me down to have one of their measuring thingies where you keep taking your blood pressure over a 24 hour period. I think I'll go for the beetroot juice till then, I believe it helps lower blood pressure. She also looked at the mole I was vaguely concerned about and said nothing to worry about, it was just an age thing. Well, it would be, wouldn't it? I swear that they get annoyed with me because they only see me once a decade or so and they have to dream up something to put me in my place.

The Rev went to the dietician yesterday. It was very justified as when I say 'think Vicar of Dibley' I am not exaggerating. She came back highly delighted because he told her she was not eating enough!!!!!!! She now has to eat a salad before her meals and have AT LEAST 7 portions of fruit and vegetables a day in addition, and two snacks morning and afternoon. I did suggest this morning that by 'snack' he probably wasn't thinking of a sausage roll and packet of crisps. Anyway. all I can see is mounting food bills. It seems that healthy living is getting more expensive.

I have been reading a book called The 4-day Win by Martha Beck. At first I thought it was impossibly complicated and not at all what I wanted (How to lose 4 stones in 4 days!) but as I read on it has started to resonate with me. As someone who has been fat all my life and losing and putting on weight for 70 years, I realise that my whole life has centred around food, what and when I was going to eat next, beating myself up if I ate too much, plunging into despair when I put on a pound and constantly feeling a failure because I couldn't stick at any diet long enough to make a difference. What a waste of a life! Please, don't any of you go down that road.
Anyway, this book is making me much more relaxed about the whole thing.
It was all in vain, whatever I did, and here I am in my mid seventies, 14st 7lb and 5ft 2. It all goes with my thinning hair, tree-trunk legs, wrinkles and double chin.
Do you have a picture in your minds? Trust me, it is much worse than that. Perhaps I will just fall on my sword.

Chicken 11: You really don't want to hear about my house move, honestly, you don't. Time may heal the wound but will never erase the scar.
Thank-you from the hedgehogs. You are very, very kind. I hope they have curtains at the windows of their little house and blankets on the beds. I daresay a TV aerial will be making an appearance soon.
    You are lovely.

Now you just listen here monnagran falling on your sword indeed! Now I have seen a picture of you my dear. I bet you don't remember. You were holding baby Mia. I saw the same lady I pictured in my mind. Want to know what it was? A lady with a huge heart and a mouth that delivers short shrift to nonsense! Falling on your sword for a wobbly tummy, wrinkles, tree-trunk legs and double chin? Be off with that nonsense. I too have those things and ok, maybe not as many laughter/crying lines just yet but add stretch marks, varicose veins, big bliddy nuisance boobs and chin hairs, well I can match your hand.

When you see me will you think of me as having all those things or will you see me? I will see you!

Must dash as I need to find a vase :)

    Well said :T:T:T
  • Hello everyone, just back from DD and guess what????? Zebra has got a toothiepeg!!! You can hear crunching now when he scrunches a rice cake so cute!!! I've had so much fun with him, leaps and bounds he's come on since I saw him a few weeks ago and his smile is pure sunshine, he's such a sunny little man and only cries when he's hungry or tired the rest of the time he plays with his toys and jabbers away in 'babyese' and smiles, smiles, smiles!!! Last night I babysat so DD and DSIL could finally go out for thier 1st anniversary meal and they went on to the cinema afterwards, my Zebra slept through from 7.15 until 6.30 this morning and didn't even twitch through the evening, DD however woke up at 5.30 expecting him to do the same awwwwww!

SHEILA I'll look you out some recipes for low fat/low calorie pasta sauces and post them tomorrow, I'm sure I've got some in my home written book.

Hope you're all well and happy today and that the poorlies are now feeling better, FPK the meds don't hand out anti-biotics these days unless they're really needed my girl so don't you feel guilty, just keep taking the tablets!!! Take care of yourselves Lyn xxx.

Monna - we're over on the Island tomorrow until Monday - anything you want me to do/get/say?
PLEASE dont fall on your sword - especially as we've just cleaned the carpets! Just DO NOT LISTEN to that inner voice that lists all your perceived faults - listen to Fuddle & the crew on here who value your wisdom, empathy & comon sense so much.

Welcome back Mrs L- Glad you got to enjoy Zebra all to yourself - DH calls the first front baby teeth 'Pickle Stabbers' & their chatter is 'talking scribble'
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • floss They do look like nests don't they? I'd never noticed before, how wonderful.

Lyn Congratulations on the family toothiepeg

DH is still trying to out smart the chickens who refuse to stay behind the newly erected fence.........the chooks are still winning :D

  • SHEILA I remembered the easiest thing to do as a pasta sauce, it doesn't even need cooking!!!

1lb of very ripe tomatoes skinned and chopped up small
1 tablespoon of olive oil 1/2 an ounce of fresh basil leaves chopped very finely 1 teaspoon of sugar/splenda/stevia
    salt and fresh black pepper
8 os of feta cheese crumbled up
10 black olives stoned and chopped small
    1 teaspoon of balsamic vinegar

just mix everything together in a bowl, cover it and leave it at room temperature for a few hours to mix the flavours and serve it over hot pasta, it's lovely.

This is enough for 4 portions so you might want to make a quarter portion fresh just for you whenever you want it, flavour would be better.
  • LYN...Thanks so much for the one recipe, and I look forward to some more when you find them out, bearing in mind I hate garlic........Thanks
    Congrats on babys toothie....

MONNAGRAN...Id love to know just a snippet of your move....!!...
Yes I love my hogs, they eat better than me on sultanas, mealworms, etc.....Funny really cos when I go to shop for food shop for myself I keep checking the prices pick something then put it back on shelf, but with the hogs I just go pick up a large tub of mealworms and pay straight away.....And this arvo I had a squirrill come into the garden and have a little walk about checking the area out , lovely to see that about, although I expect lot people on here get too many in their gardens and I know they can be very destructive .......

Weather still so very warm and sunny , I love it......Well ive packed a few things ready for hospital tomorrow, I really cant wait to have this op, cos I know that once its done I can look forward to it healing and then I shall be able to walk about more, ive put 2 stone on in past year cos ive been unable to walk much .......If all goes well then I will have the other heel opped on too.........I have to be there at 12 , so hope to come home same day......
I put some pasta in a dish for tonights dinner with a packet of colmans cheese sauce , and by god was that beautiful , FAIRYPRINCESS I thought of you when I put the pasta in the dish not to over do it , so I had a small portion , id say about a mug full.....I think my tea worked out 450 calories ......Pasta weigh very light when it is dry......
I will catch you all later ...sheila ( shegar)

Monna to my mind you the biggest hearted person I have ever heard of and it doesnt matter what packaging that heart comes in.

I have lost 2 stones in the last 3 months and although not yet a shadow of my former self my clothes are now officially baggy. I have only lost weight successfully twice in my life and both times for health reasons - this being the second time. Only Atkins works for me and its not for everyone but I have to say I love not being hungry and if the toaster is calling me I occassionally treat myself to slice of toast. Only trouble is I wont be able to wing it with my clothes for much longer and will have to buy more  but if I lose another stone I may well be able to get into a 16 therefore be able to shop more easily in the Cs's.

Today has been spent finishing things and washing a huge number of zips that my neighbour gave me. She is moving to the US at 89 years old as she was widowed last year and the only member of her family who is any good lives in Vegas. So I am getting bits and bobs dropped over the fence from her :D the zips smelt fusty so washed them and laid them out in the sun to dry - perfect! anybody want a few zips popping in the post - size 6/7/8 inch all colours. Bag 2 maybe bigger ones havent dared open it yet :p

Good evening - not been posting on here much over the last few days - been a bit 'out of sorts' - nothing specific just feeling like I cant pull myself out of a feeling of 'yeugh' so not much good in offering support to anyone!

All these pasta dishes sound lovely - one of my favoites (and kids) is passata and low fat creme fraiche or soft cheese - makes it a bit like tomato and mascapone - I do it with some onions peppers mushooms garlic (but that could be omitted) some sweetner to take the bitterness off the toms and add anything else i have lying around (bacon, ham, chicken, sweetcorn, peas etc) add some herbs (dried or fresh) and bobs your uncle! I make a load and freeze it so its fast food after work! ( its kind of like bottom of fridge soup with passata and cream cheese thrown over some pasta!)

Really weird emotions in work at the moment - I have no idea if I am doing the right thing moving jobs - but don't really have a choice - but then today had a meeting with someone outside the organisation and was told that they may have a very exciting oppertunity that they would be intersted in discussing with me - but I am not sure a) if it would be financially viable currently (would be if I had no debt and downsized house) or b) would be remotely practical - would involve lots of travel which would cause havoc with chilcare! (very flattered to be thought of though!)

I haven't been sleeping so I'm off to look for a nightime herbal tea to try to relax me a bit!
