  • Didn't anyone else squirm in their chair when they read 10lb? made my eyes water

Well done on the good news SQ

FP There are so many stories on post antibiotics it's enough to make you shake in your boots isn't it? but then there are a lot of stories about how it they have caused most of what ails us as well.......who knows what will happen.

I've just kicked the coffee habit and saved myself quite a bit of dosh so I put my fingers in my ears and said la la la outloud until the coffee chatter was over :rotfl:

JEM I've neglected the allotment as well, I've yet to go have a look as I can't face it.

DS is finally able to get down stairs and make a cuppa so hopefully he's on the mend. He's still only eating dry biscuits though as he says he's been too familiar with the toilet and needs a break from it's company :rotfl::rotfl:

Not much going on here apart from escaped chickens

I am probably too late now with the pineapple but it is both tinned and fresh that stop a jelly from setting ask me how I know. My mother watched me make one and did not tell me. She knew, she was always doing that.

Having said that there is now a pineapple jelly so it may be worth reading the packet if you buy one Fuddle. It is something to do with the acid in pineapple that reacts with the gelatin so it will not set.

Mr M also has Nescafe Gold at £4. I did well there last night got a bacon quiche for 29p, 6 large cheese and onions rolls 25p and 4 small melton mobry pies 19p. I have discovered if I leave home about 5pm on a Monday there are lots of YS things including what I got last week just under 500gm of cooked meat offcuts for 39p.

Last week we had chicken stirfry, ham pasta bake and two lots of sandwiches out of that. I was a bit tired last night so did not hang around for the offcuts he was just putting everything out. Monday seems to be the best day.

We had the quiche for lunch with salad. The cheese and onion rolls are a particular favourite of DS's so I put them in the freezer in separate bags and he can take as many as he wants. He said "Oh Robinsons squash you have been splurging. Did I say that right?"

I told him it was on offer and he should look at the stickers on everything else. I also got fridge raiders for 29p.

That was a big baby SQ glad I was not giving birth.

Our high street is already dead Monna it is all discounters, poundshops, betting shops and pawn brokers. Saying that though one of the pawn brokers has gone bust in the last few months. I think this trend towards the internet is a bit of a myth less than 20% of shopping is actually done online.

Sheila I tend to have pasta with tuna, broccoli and a little smidgen of cheese when I am trying to loose weight but er, I have about 2 stone to loose too so don't listen to me! Tomato based sauces might be the way to go.

    I think Lyn is with zebra. She's a miss isn't she? :(

Well DD made cous cous today. Well made as in adding ingredients to flavour etc. She's 10 and hasn't been able to use a knife at home for fear of cutting herself. Her knife work is small, careful and neat. How the heck I do not know! Feeling really embarrassed for mollycoddling. Idiot! Hasten to add that she has washed, dried and put away the dishes this afternoon - well encouraging skills is a Mam's job isn't it? :o:rotfl:

A lasagne is bubbling away as I type. I have cheated and bought a white sauce though - sorry :(

23degrees here today. Heating is so far from my mind but I was very cold during the night. I will be taking a blanket tonight ;)

Already had my bath as was smelling of cigarette smoke, not happy though as I like to be stingy and use DH's water :rotfl: I no longer use any product in the bath! :D I use aqueous cream to wash, shave legs and swirl in the bath. It take my make up off too. At £2.40 for 500g I am very happy. Shame I dare not moisturise with it though. I think it's drying, bizarrely enough.

Monnagran have you been to the doctors yet?

DH has been to the GP. He's been referred to audiology, I have been referred to physiotherapy as the GP has a haunch that my knee difficulties are due to a lifetime of being plump and relatively inactive. She thinks its possible the muscles round my knee have wasted to reflect that usage but now I need them for the job I do she thinks the muscles aren't strong enough to withstand it so the pain is due to the knees feeling like they're being overused and even misused. Sounds like a good avenue to go down. Perfectly plausible!
  • Thanks for that Fuddle, yea we need LYN , she excellent with her recipes , or someone will soon come along with new ideas for me....
MONNAGRAN........How did your house move go,? and when did you move in ?.....

FUDDLE I had a hearing test done at the doctors surgery 3 months ago cos I feel I cant hear properly and he done a basic test and said he thinks its age related:eek: im 56 ......So my appointment came from the hospital and they done mor in depth tests and said my left ear is poor and that I need a hearing aid , so im put on the waiting list and should get one around christmas time , they are quite small now and I dont think it will be noticed that much as I do have a head full of hair.......
Fairyprincess You will soon feel better when the tablets get in your system....................
PIC...I hope you soon feel better also...

This weather is absolutely lovely , better than August , still wearing tee shirts , long may it continue , it will make winter seem shorter if we get good September......But the nights are pulling in now , cant bear the thought of winter.....

Ive just bought a SAD lamp for myself as I suffer badly from September to February with SAD ......I hope it will be useful for me , it wasnt overpriced , ive put it beside my bed on the cabinet so I can just lay there and look at it in the mornings, will have to set the alarm an half hour earlier...

Hubby is doing very well in the nursing home , he loves it, we have done his room to his liking , he now as a tv DVD radio and en suite bathroom over looking the sea, he comes home every other weekend, but he says he like his new life there because he dont get all the normal family noises like , phone rings, doorbell goes, dog barks , plus he get fed regular on time where as me ive never had a routine in my life, thats the way I am.......Ive 5 to 7 hedgehogs in the garden , they all come out of a night and feed on mealworms , sultanans , peanuts etc etc....I love to see them , I think they are still under the summerhouse, plus Ive put log piles under hedges , trees , etc , so they have plenty of places to hide and hibernate next month......Ok all im off to get a drink , catch you all later...Sheila ....shegar

  • Sheila, what about a bit of olive oil and then cherry tomatoes and fresh basil? OH likes a few olives on his and i like a few artichokes (not quite so exorbitant at Aldi!) A red sauce would also be low calorie. I too like the tuna version fuddle mentioned and with the protein it might stick with you longer. Main thing I've found with pasta is portion control. I once measured it all out for a week and realized that it is very easy to get pasta portions wrong, I tried measuring it after I dished up what I'd normally eat and found I had near 900 calories just in pasta:eek:.

I also wanted to say that it makes me so happy to hear that your OH is happy and settled in his new home. I know it was a difficult decision and a difficult time for you both and it is so nice to hear that he is settled and you're able to look after your own health.

Jacket spuds were safely tucked up three quarters of an hour ago, OH is just showering and will check them when he is out. I'm moving as little as possible.

A parcel got delivered earlier and the man apologized for getting me out of bed. I felt a bit embarrassed at being caught in bed in mid afternoon and said, oh, I'm ill and he said, I know I can smell the vick:rotfl:
  • Fairyprincess , many thanks for advising me portion control, you would never think just how much you could eat in a week , so that I will remember when im cooking , I definitely think im eating more than the normal porton size......Im not a great lover of fish , only time I like it is when its covered in batter and with chips......Anyone tried the jars of pasta sauce ?, I will check out the shop in the morning see what they have to offer , trouble with shop bought stuff is its so high in fat and calories......Thanks sheila (shegar)

Sheila, why not simmer a tin of tomatoes down with some herbs (maybe some chilli flakes), toss in some lightly fried onion and garlic and then stir through 80g (uncooked weight) pasta (cook it first though lol)

If you want you can add some small diced carrot or courgette and simmer until all the veggies are cooked through, the pasta will come in at between 280 to 300 kcals, the sauce (go easy on the oil!) will be beggar all :rotfl:
    Must use my stash up!

Sheila, do you have time to spend a little time cooking before your op? If so, I would suggest making tomato sauce from tinned chopped tomatoes: sweat a finely chopped onion, add a squished clove of garlic (or puree) & a squirt of tomato puree if you have any, also some fresh or dried basil or dried mixed herbs, then add 2 tins of chopped tomatoes & 1 tsp of sugar (brings out the flavour) and leave to simmer for about 20 minutes. Freeze in small portions, then defrost 1 when you need it.

Re pasta portions - we've found that by buying tagliatelle nests we know roughly how much we're having - 2 nests is a portion which makes it easier to control what we eat. More expensive, but I buy them when on offer and always have a couple of packs in the pantry :o

DH is watching the european footie...have left him alone as he's not very impressed! Am trying to summon up the momentum to start logging all my baking receipts to claim back the tax....am a bit scared to find out how much I have spent, but if I can claim 20% back then it will go towards a polytunnel for our lottie :)
