Not really a battle you just get on with it. You have no choice. I don't often mention it most people don't want to know. I know you are different on here.

I have always been OS only time we have eaten ready meals was the first couple of months after my op. Could not wait to get back to proper food.

Being there for your friend is the best you can do Possession. It is difficult for your DD but she will cope mine did at about the same age when her best friend's Mother died suddenly.

The job share idea is good Possession and the other option is persuading them you could do a few hours at home. Not sure what you do so it may not be possible for either.

Lots of offers in Mr M so I did the weeks shop. Bit of a struggle getting my shopping trolley back down the hill and home it was over full. I bought nothing that was more expensive than Ald! apart from two chocolate oranges at £1 each. I noticed a lot of people with two tubs of chocolates at £8 for two well not only were they £1 more but even smaller you could really see the difference. There were as many Asian's with them as whites. I noticed they are getting ready for the C word too.

I've actually found all the things I could not find before. I got a nice girl come and show me were everything is. That manager knows nothing about how to sell his stuff. The most expensive stuff is where most women struggle to reach.

I'm so silly. The job isn't full time it's just strangely worded. Looks like it's either 2 or 3 days. So it might work out supplementing it with some freelance stuff from home. DH is brainstorming with me to produce a tailored CV (which inevitably ends up sounding like it's talking about someone else, LOL!). I have brain ache.
  • Morning all,

Possession, great news that the job will work as is. Good luck!

I'm still full of cold today so taking it easy again with no gym, and staying warm and hydrated. I did a meal plan for this week before I left and we did two weeks shop at once so apart from top ups of milk and fruit we have everything we need. Next week I actually NEED to use some of the meals out of the freezer as there is not even a millimeter of free space in it. Just as well since I've got meetings all week and OH has several things late at school.

Maggie the cat seems attuned to the slight change in weather as she is back to sleeping on the fleecy blanket outside our bedroom door. During the summer she preferred the landing at the top of the stairs. It isn't particularly cool yet, but I have put an extra quilt on the bed.

This weekend is Heritage Open Days. Lots of museums, historic buildings and parks are admission free and have free tours/walks. You can search for things near you here under the 'What's on your doorstep' link:

    Hi all.
I read through the last few days' thread yesterday but so much has happened since I was last here that I didn't have time to post. So many of you are going through really challenging times it is hard to know where to start. I feel for you all and can only hope and pray that you all find the strength to get through your problems and that you always remember that nothing lasts for ever - except perhaps, tattoos.

Fuddle and Lyn, I am absolutely with you on this. When my two were being rebellious teenagers I begged them not to do anything that couldn't be undone. Silly haircuts, even sillier clothes, the latest 'in words' even piercings, would fade and disappear in time, but tattoos were for ever and no matter how much you regretted them later you'd be stuck with them when you grew old and your skin wrinkled and they just looked ridiculous. Fortunately they took it on board. DS1 did actually have his eyebrow pierced and arrived home with a ring through it. He waited for my reaction and when there wasn't one said "Go on, I know you hate it." I said that not at all. I thought it was a brilliant idea. Sally (current girlfriend) could clip the dog lead to it and keep him under control. I never saw it again.
They also had the example of a friend of theirs who had his girlfriend's name tattooed across the back of his hand, because, "This is for ever." He was 17, and two years and several girlfriends on he used to wear driving gloves a lot, even in the hottest weather.
He is now a successful business man and the last time I saw him he had had the name very expensively removed, but you could still see the scars.

I won't bore you with my chaotic weekend. It was like an express train, rushed through with great noise and excitement and left us exhausted but happy.

My DB and lovely SIL want us to go on holiday with them again next year, they want to book the same place that we went to last year because it was so unbelievably wonderful and not too expensive. So, the saving begins here. With the rev still working and the other two on good pensions I am the one who struggles. They all want to help me but I'm having none of it. It just means that I tighten the purse strings even tighter. Fortunately, last year we didn't spend anywhere near the money we took out and thinking that we might go again this year I didn't change my euros back into sterling, so my spending money is already here.

I have a young man here this morning fitting our security system, so furniture is being moved, carpets taken up and tools and hammering everywhere. I must go and make him the first of many coffees, and if he is good, some HM peanut butter cookies.

How do I convert something in Notepad to a pdf? I haven't got Word in this laptop, just Open Office.
  • Hi Mar, This is what we do at work on tablets.
Menu/file/print then select virtual pdf printer then a pop up box to say (hopefully) successful.
I hope this works. If not post on the techie forum?

Possession so glad it is a part time job. Hope you get it if you decide it is for you. If the job is in the same field as your old one 19 years of experience has got to count for something.

I got some jellybabies would like some Mar?

Evening all. possession I hope the job application goes well, it does seem perfect timing :)

Mardatha - I am not sure you can convert, I cant on windows 8 anyway. Open Office is fairly useable though :)

Monna glad the weekend went ok and that you have a break booked,

Its been a difficult weekend here as I received a call late Fri to tell me that school had made a mistake with DS exam results and that he didnt get his english grade needed. The effect has been like a volcano erupting and there are still many difficulties to get through. How on earth they can make a mistake like this I do not understand but I do feel that they should be made to pay for such a monumental error which has far reaching effects on DS life.

Other than that I have begun car shopping in ernest and this week am planning to travel to Worcester as there is a dealer with the exact car I am looking for in the right price and condition etc :)

I kind of thought it might be a bit excitable monnagran but as long as you're happy you can deal with the exhaustion eh? ;) :rotfl:

Mar I used to be 'up' with technology but these days I'm the one squinting and scratching my head!

Sorry to hear of that kidcat very upset for the young lad. Awful situation.

Very dark and cosy here tonight, although very warm it has not stopped the making of the first supper hot chocolate of the season. I'm sat catching up with the minster bells ringing and feel all is ok with the world. Just watched last weeks GBBO but it was pastry and I'm not a pastry fan - neither eating nor making!

Had a lot of knee trouble today so sat still for 1 hour after the school run with a hot rice pad on it. It worked for tea making, dishes washing, packed lunch putting upping and now it's time to put my feet up for good this evening. I have till Friday to wait before I can arrange a doctors appointment for the x-ray and blood test results so still in the dark with regard to what is going on.

Chilli con carne and home made chips on the cards for tomorrow's meal.
