possession im sorry about your hun, won't take long to a knock a cv but if you want a hand by all means pm and i'll see what i can do to help.
fingers crossed for your friend x0 -
Think my brain is fried. All these things I should be doing, and here I am checking OS again. Let's all take care of each other, life's too short for anything else.
I have half put together a CV (ie. I've done everything except the really difficult bits!).0 -
I have had too many arguments on this thread. I'm not getting myself involved in another.
See, for me procrastination comes in the shape of menu plans.I have redone mine while upstairs still looks like Hanratty's yard!
Does anyone know the ballpark shelf life of powdered milk? For the preppers amongst us do you prefer powdered or UHT?
Are there any store cupboard basics that have to be kept in a cupboard i.e. anything that I shouldn't store on a wall shelf?0 -
Most definately powdered and I don't take any notice of the best before dates anyway. I use what I have in strict date order because that means freshest is last to be used and I'm sure I haven't posioned anyone yet!!! I don't like the UHT taste whereas powdered skimmed is fine, we run on skimmed milk anyway when we buy fresh and I can't tell the difference tastewise from the reconstituted dried.
I should fully read posts FUDDLE nothing I know of has to be stored in a cupboard except herbs and spices and that's only the reccommendation, not an essential. My store room doesn't have cupboards only Ikea shelving units right round the walls and I keep my entire storecupboard up there and have never had a problem with things spoiling.0 -
Hugs to the Cake and Possession.
There seems little I can say to either of you. I have experienced
litigation and know things just go on and on forever it seems.
At least with employment law it moves at breakneck spead compared any other part of civil law.
Possession all I can say is the least time you are out of work the
easier it is to get a job. I hope you will be able to cut your hours
once you get a job. Sometimes I think when we have to do something like a CV it would be better to do the hard part first and get it over with. We all do the easier bit first. They wont really be interested in anything you did before your last job.
We will all keep everything crossed we can. Unlike my eldest son I
cannot cross my toes and don't know anyone else that can. When we
were amazed he could do it he was amazed that no one else could.
As for the cancer. I was found to have a huge tumour in my stomach. I could have died on the operating table I bled so much but they took it all away along with half my stomach. 15 month later I am on tablets that are keeping it from growing, if there is any left there as we don't know if I have a few cells left. The tumour was as big as a large kitchen towel roll and here I am not doing too badly, I am eating normally can get on with my life, get out and do things, I just feel cold a lot and like I have a stomach bug all the time but I do have tablets for it. Things are
improving all the time. They will do their absolute best for your friend. When it comes to the big things we really do have a wonderful NHS.
Onwards and upwards as they say.0 -
Forgot to say, Fuddle I keep both powdered and UHT milk. The powdered for cooking and skimmed UHT for emergencies. I can't stand the taste of UHT either but the taste is in the cream is the part that gets the taste it is not in skimmed.
I would not keep jars and tins in a wall cupboard I think they are too heavy. I reckon my kitchen is 30 to 40 years old. I would not trust any weight in them. Most of my stock is under my bed so there is not much.
Still waiting for the plumber but I will have to go to Mr M as I never went out all last week. It's the nearest only ten minutes walk.0 -
Am racing through with no time to post properly just wanted to post hugs to possession and also say if the job is full time or may be that you could do job share scheme? Good luck you deserve it0

Thanks Lyn that leaves loads of scope. It's the Ikea basic metal shelves I am thinking about. We have one set above the oven for storage of pans and utensils. I'm thinking of a second set on the wall above the bench next to the cupboards for storing go to basic ingredients leaving the cupboards for my stores
nursemaggie I am so sorry to read of your battle. Such a strong woman to post and lurk without letting on of your real struggles. Stories like yours and Possesion's put everything into perspective.
The chicken nuggets have gone down a storm with the kiddies. So much so I think I may need to rejig that meal plan :rotfl: My batter could be improved upon but that's just small fry.
Micra is back... one of the spark plugs was a bit iffy apparentlyNo labour charge and only the cost of a new spark plug - couple of £'s. Phew! this time
Ok, so thinking ahead to soup night tomorrow which means a pudding. Going to do a steamed pud as can leave it in the slow cooker. Found an idea that consists of chopped up tinned fruit for the bottom (top) of pud so fancying peaches.
Eldest is making fruit salad at school for tomorrow and having worked in secondary schools I have seen what kids get up to when cooking so erm... the girls will have fruit salad and yoghurt for their supper me thinks0 -
Nursemaggie you're very strong to have gone through all that and still be here posting and being OS.
DD is in my friend's middle daughter's class and she was crying today because her mum has mouth cancer. It's a lot for a 9 yr old to cope with.

Sorry to hear about your friends diagnosis Possession - however surgical techniques and cancer treatments have improved alot and lots of people 'survive' cancer these days. NurseMaggie is living proof sounds like that has been a challanging journey to say the least!
I created a CV using a free website and I can go back an tweak it so it keeps it live - it means I can just tweak bits rather than starting again each time but I know what you mean about the 'hard bits' I hate those bits - its so hard to describe your self and skills without sounding concieted!
Back to work for me today after almost 3 weeks off and really don't want to be there! Only got 3 weeks to go before I leave but it going to be long 3 weeks! So many things I still want to do and improve but need to move on and handover to someone else! its all a bit sad! I really hope i am making a good move!
Hope everyone else is doing ok0
