The OS Doorstep - a helpful and supportive thread in these tough times

Don't worry about ups and downs NurseMaggie. I don't post regarding several tough things going on in my life (just don't feel comfortable sharing it online because of my job), but I still feel the support of this thread. Part of what I love about this thread is everyone is welcome and gets support on the terms they need it--whether they've got a very tough time they need to share or just want to pop in for a daily chat.0

Possession hugs, I am hoping things work out to be even better for you, often an enforced change can make things better eventually, I do so hope this is the case for you

Welcome Judi
I am feeling incredibly down and tearful this week, summer holidays are ending far too soon for me, and I feel there is so much still to do. I have achieved so little and am certainly not at all rested or settled yet.
OH hours have increased right up again and he is being sent on lots of training courses which will lead to yet more hours.
Meantime I have the extra headache of getting DS to college in next town 15 minutes after dropping the first littlie. My mileage per week will hit 600 miles and my diesel cost £120. OH says oh well, you managed it this year you will find a way!0 -
Wow Pookie everything is so beautiful! You are so clever.
Now I don't know what to do the wave blankets or the squares. I will have to remind myself how to crotchet must be 25 years since I did any. All I can do with a hook is pick up my stitches. :rotfl:
Right now I am struggling with keeping the stitches even on a scarf in fishermans stitch. The crotchet hook does not work with those stitches.0 -
I used to crochet knit and sew and don't do anything creative anymore!!! got another year of a masters to do and then I am going to focus on regaining my creativity! I look around my house and there is really no evidence of any creativity! and it makes me sad! I have focused on my career and I have studied now for 20 odd years non stop so after this course its time to change the focus I think!
Pooky - do i FB you regarding prices etc? I love the paper cuts - so unusual!0 -
Big hugs Kidcat
I feel similarly--sad because summer is over and anxious about all of the things I did not accomplish--but I find that when I look at what I did do it is a very long list, which perhaps puts what I didn't do into perspective.
Waiting to hear if the plumber will come out today. We've had a non-functioning radiator in the bathroom since we moved in over a year ago. Due to various scheduling complications and the LL misunderstanding the problem and getting in the wrong people it was never repaired last year. It became so disruptive to my work that we just let it drop. (I think we had four people out in one week and none of them made any progress on the problem and the landlord wasn't comprehending what sort of person he needed so we were going in circles and meanwhile I was getting further behind in work). We asked that he get someone out during July or August when we re-signed the least in May. Our thinking was we can be available any time then and it should be sorted in time for the beginning of term rush. Guess when he go around to it? As if this week wasn't hectic enough, I've told the LL I can only be in on Mon or Tues because I'm away for work end of the week and he has said he'll 'let me know.' I'm still waiting, and trying to get work done when I've got a plumber who wants to give me a monologue about it isn't helpful so I feel anxious about when he does turn up knowing that this guy is a bit chatty and I won't get much done. Fingers crossed that when he gets the floor up it is the two hour job and not the day long job he thinks it could be! I know working in trade must be a lonely business at times, but since I work from home, it means I need to get on with my work while they get on with theirs.
Sorry, a bit of a rant there and none of it really important in the greater scheme of things. I'm just feeling the pressure this week!0 -
Morning - hope everyone is ok this morning - Kidcat - I know what you mean about being sad and stressed about September - my youngest does her 11 + in a couple of weeks so is a bit stressed. We are trying a shared care arrangement with my DS where he spends 2 weeks at his Dads and 2 weeks with me - going to become complicated and stressy with stuff everywhere (usually in the wrong place) but we need to give it a go - your running around sounds challenging - hope it goes well!
I start my new job in 3 weeks and i currentlt start at 8.30 so need morning childcare (my mum and my DD2)- I could start at 9 in the new job I think which would effectively eliminate the need for morning childcare so might try that and see if it makes life easier - it means i will finish slightly later but I need afternoon childcare anyway. Mu mum said she would prefer not to do do monday or tuesday mornings and DD2 doesnt get to pick days off so it all gets a bit messy in the morning!
Having a day with DS today - going to go and look out trainers and rugby boots and see if they still fit before heading to the school to look in lost property for his old PE kit as it is nowhere to be seen at mine or his dads - hopefully can avoid buying the whole lot again!
Cant stop thinking about how I can regain some creativity in my life - but really should be focusing on cleaning the house and getting on with asignments!!!0 -
Judi sounds like the new job could work well in many ways. I think you need to drop a gear before you miss out on life - I have been there and it was the best decision I made to get off the ladder about 10 years ago. I changed to a job that gave me satisfaction but lower pay and never looked back. then I had to retire early to look after hubby and although its hard I can be creative all day

Pooky the image of the parrot made me laugh, your house is as crazy as mine.
Im keeping busy today as its my friends funeral in a couple of hours, luckily the cemetry is in the next street so not far to go. I made a floral spray earlier, my friend and neighbour paid for the flowers as a swopsie (Im taking in her dress for her sons wedding). We started doing them ourselves when another friend died and we were too skint to put money in the street collection. Its really easy to make a spray and I already had ribbon and cellophane so job done in 10 minutes.
Possession I hope you know by now whats happening and its not redundancy but if it is we are all here while you have a good rant xClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Afternoon all
Judi - I'm a big believer in people having hobbies, it's a time to relax and do something you enjoy and if being creative can help you have some "you" time then find the time for it - it will help you regain a bit of balance which will make the house cleaning and assignments easier to deal with.
Kidkat - That's a lot of mileage to be doing in a week - will DD be able to help out now she has her little car?"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Thanks ladies. All went ok getting Ds10 to school today and he went on happily enough.
Pooky DD19 hasn't passed her driving test yet. As soon as she does she will be able totake one of the younger two for me. She is going to push her driving instructor to up her lessons to twice weekly in the aim of getting passed quicker.
Right off to get DD8 hair cut ready for her to go back tomorrow.0
