Morning all,
Monna, do drop in. I, like Fuddle, find your stories a bit of comic relief but I do have sympathy--it sounds a full week;)
OH has his first 'official' day back in school today. He did some prep work last week, but that was as and when he wanted. Pupils are back later this week, and I'm off to Glasgow for work the same day, so its a busy week. The day before I leave is our anniversary.
I feel a bit nervous today, not quite sure why. I've an application in for a bit of extra work on the side. I don't NEED it, not even sure I want it but nervous waiting for an email or call anyway. Perhaps a bit sad Summer is 'officially' over, even if my term doesn't technically start for a few more weeks, people are back from leave and things happen again.
We got lucky with YS yesterday. A new Mr. M has opened up on our route to Ald! so we've been stopping in to check the YS on our Sunday shopping trips. The freezer is now full to bursting. I've 10 pre-made meals and a fair selection of other bits and bobs to see us through term.
Right, I'm off to [STRIKE]gamble[/STRIKE] put a wash on--the forecast says it won't rain today, but it has been drizzling since I woke up. Hmmm. I'm going to risk it as want to be on top of washing before I leave mid week.0 -
SQ--meant to say--quite right. Even the teachers start putting the alarm back gradually the week before, mostly because their OH does not like sudden changes in their sleeping patterns!0
-
FUDDLE you can get powdered egg still these days but I haven't seen it in the supermarkets for years now. Look on Fleabay and they sell bags of it that technically should keep forever if you keep them in a dry cool place but I'll bet they have a use by date imposed on us by TPTB!!!
SHANKS 77 we're a whole flock of cuckoos over on the prepping thread and another whole thread full here, but we're happy little cuckoos so who cares? Being a normal birdy must be very dull stuff eh?0 -
Good morning all :hello:
Grandchildren (well, the little ones) go back to school tomorrow.. there's been building work going on at their school for a very long time. DGD's class this year is meant to be in one of the new buildings, so I hope it's finished!
The school is expanding and will eventually have 4 classes in each year-group, so the new classroom block has a playground on the roof!
I went with DD to buy DGC's new school shoes quite early on in the hols so there was plenty of choice and they both got the ones they liked best. In DGD's case this was a pair of Lellie Kellies:( Her little face was so thrilled when she saw them, and she looked at me so imploringly, that I let her have them. And actually they were cheaper than DGS's shoes, and come with 2 spare sets of straps. And they were an excellent fit, so I didn't feel I had a leg to stand on so to speak
I have an appointment this afternoon with a new chiropodist and hope they will agree to surgery on my ingrowing nail, as it's too sore now when it's treated and I just want rid of it. At least once it's healed up it's sorted!
Tonight's dinner - Haven't a clue atm
Pooky I love the paper cut you did for Luna, what beautiful words. Where do they come from?
monnagran Sorry, I agree with Fuddle, you write so amusingly about your mishaps etc that unfortunately they tend to make me chuckle ( though I must stress it's your way of portraying them that I find funny, not the problems themselves!) Will be thinking of you and the Rev at her welcoming service.0 -
Woke up incredibly sad today, ds1 went to school. Start of GCSEs fully, then Wednesday ds2 starts year 6 and we get forms for secondary school.
Summer holidays have gone far to quick.
But suppose it's time to get back into a routine and start back on with getting everything sorted paper wise, house ready for winter and things0 -
Fuddle - I've only used the chalk paint on table legs and then waxed them but it's not as easy as I'd like to wipe them over - the cloth does drag a little - hence I used the satin wood on the dresser - it's in the kitchen, it's going to get greasy, kitchen stuff does so I need to be able to give it a good wash down.
Ivy - Thanks - I think the Luna cut is one of my favourites so far. The customer asked for those words, I've no idea where they're from but they are lovely.
Good luck to all those going back to school this week - I do love this new term, getting back to routine stuff. I started as I mean to go on this morning with getting up early, did some exercise, dyed my hair, housework all done, breakfast cooked and washing out - all by 9am so I could sit down to start some work. I now feel I've been up for hours and need a tea break and it's only 10am.
Going to go help DD2 wash our car and DD1s (DD1 has paid DD2 to do it) and get them all hoovered out and gleaming. Want to get the lawns done too but it's supposed to rain this afternoon so I might leave it until later in the week when this supposed heatwave is due to hit."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Trying to hold it together here as I have DD with me today, but feeling absolutely sick. 99% sure I'm going to be made redundant tomorrow. No idea what we will do. DH only on a 1 yr contract and still having problems with anxiety and depression. I can't get a full time job with school hols and a dog, and I have done the same job for 19 years and won't be able to get anything similar round here. We were supposed to be taking on a puppy shortly too, and the children will be devastated to be told we can't particularly as we are all still sad after losing Lottie. Sorry, feeling very down.0

Me to pooky, been on the go since half five, ready to stop.
Waiting for kettle to boil then start back on work.
Determined to clear my mind and start the new school year positive, get rid of this scary feeling inside.
Get the front room sorted finally, looking at throws to sofa with and start making a new door snake0 -
Hugs Possession, hopefully things aren't as bad as you fearMust use my stash up!0
-
Ohhh Possession - how worrying for you. Have you worked for the same company for 19 years? I assume there'd be redundancy money? (I know that doesn't help in the grand scheme of things).
Kids are resilient things and they're both old enough to understand the financial responsibility of taking on a new puppy, it will be hard on them (and you).
Try not to worry too much for today (easier said than done I know) - things have a habit of turning out ok in the end.....once you've got all the facts tomorrow you can start making plans.
Huge hugs to you all x"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
