    Evening all,

Just back from visiting some family and have spent a couple of days getting things sorted/working.

Kidcat, I was always taught that the true spirit of gift giving is that the recipient may do with the gift as they please, so ebay away if that is how it will best suit you! And if anyone is ever inclined to inquire you can simply say x went wrong with it.

I've double checked that the torches are all put away in their proper places, made sure the matches are where I expect to find them and set out some small lettuce plants. I guess one of those things will tempt fate and we'll get a hard storm. Oh Well.

I picked a trug full of blackberries a couple of days ago. Some has gone into jam, the freezer kind, I'm not brave enough for the other kind yet! The rest are slated for a sort of liquor thing I tried while we were away in Germany. It involves sugar, vodka, a substantial amount of fruit blended in and a bit of simple syrup. We had little schnapps glassfuls there, I think it might be nice with a bit of soda water as well. I'm just making enough for domestic use this year, but perhaps I'll do it for pressies along with jam in sterilized and sealed jars in a few years when I've practiced enough. I've also been drying some herbs--tonight is the first cup of hm dried peppermint tea. We'll see if it passes muster! Honestly I was feeling a bit down about the garden this year as I've lost several battles to the slugs, then it thought better and have decided to make the most of what I have, in the spirit of Fuddle's signature!

I hope all are well, hopefully I'll have time to read back in the next few days.

Snatching a few minutes to catch up on all the posts - is that funny noise my tummy rumbling after dinner? No - its Pushkin squeezed tightly onto the shelf under my computer snoring very squeakily!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

elisa - congrats on the new granddaughter - hope all is going well there.

Hope you enjoyed your stay - if you were menaced by a small shark in the swimming pool or nearly run over by a small menace in a wheelchair, that was probably us - sorry!! Both kids have swimfins and we got so many comments on them - even DS interacted with a couple of people, even once grring another little boy (he has some quite obvious auty traits so this is a big deal for us).

DS also blessed us with his first ever sentence while we were away - "I don't want" when he was told it was time to get out of the pool - we had suspected he was holding out on us and that he knew the words really for a while but concrete proof was amazing!

Elisa - how funny, wish we'd known, we could have said hi in RL!

5lb is a good weight - thinking good thoughts her way.

We thought Woburn was lovely, clean and sparkly new but were slightly disappointed with the pool size (it's going to be a nightmare when it's cold and wet and everybody wants to be in there at once), DD was also disappointed there was no proper outdoor pool that she could go in as that's her favourite bit at Whinfell - even in the winter when we have to run out in the cold to get into the lovely warm outdoor pool!! Was nice to go to the new one but just booked our family holiday for next year back at Whinfell.

On the way to Ald! this afternoon we went past the market and they were open. Here is my list of the market equivalent of YS food.

    1 kilo cherry tomatoes £1
1 kilo carrots, 1 cucumber and large bunch radishes £1
    two huge cauliflowers £1
    8 peppers £1.50
    12 flat peaches £1.20

not bad for popping in for 5 minutes as they closed. They have to sell everything off as they don't have cold storage and wont be open again until Tuesday. I did not buy any meat this week as got rather a lot of flavoured chicken for BBQ two weeks ago when one of the butchers was selling it all off. The Forecast for that Saturday was very good on the Friday but by Saturday it was pouring down most of the day. All those failed BBQs did me a big favour they taste just as good fried or grilled.

    nursemaggie well done :)

Stiltwalker - am loving the sound of the fins, I may have a goozle for some pics :)

Elisa - 5lb is a brill weight for 7 weeks prem, DD19 was only 5lb 6oz and she was only two weeks early, :)

SQ - I love planning our holiday adventures, especially if I can find bargains as well.

I am kitty and bunny sitting for a friend this week starting today, so I went at dinner time to feed etc, took me ages as they all wanted snuggles too, even the bunnies who are normally not friendly apparently, came up for strokes and cuddles :)

Swimfins are fab Kidcat - they hold kids in the right position in the water for swimming, we had a jacket for DS and every time he twitched (with his ataxia) he would roll over onto his back. Plus they just look so cool! I've recommended them to so many people I should be on commission, but sadly I'm not - lol.

Morning all from a soggy Kent

Hope the weather isn't being to unkind to anyone?

Elisa - Congrats on the new member of your family. Hope she's home soon.

Stilty - You deserve a medal for not doing anything daft to MIL whilst you were away.

    Kidkat - Sell sell sell!!

SQ - Hope your'e feeling better today....choccy orange always helps.

I spent most of yesterday on the sofa, just so shattered. After a busy week decorating and moving furniture and battling with a sore throat it all just came to a head and every single part of me ached. My temperature was up and down and I just felt rotten....hope today is a bit more productive - I'm not good at sitting still.

We had a phone call midweek from DH's father - they've not seen each other for 14 years and had a very bad relationship before that. But they've been in touch on FB with the odd message but he phoned to ask if he could come and visit and meet me and the girls. DH is very apprehensive about it but we've invited him here for dinner so that DH can feel easier in his own home. That'll be fun! :s

Forgot to get any meat out of the freezer for todays meal so need to go see what I can rustle up for lunch - DD1 has work this afternoon/evening so need to fill her up before she goes.....(she's got to come home first - she was out at a party last night, I sent her a text around 10pm to ask if she was ok and got a couple of picture messages in reply - the house where the party was had kittens so she was ignoring the drinking and dancing and playing with kittens instead! - so rock and roll!!)
