PX - well done on the non-smoking - my parents have just given up after smoking since they were teenagers. They only smoked in their kitchen but the smell did permeate into the rest of the house, Mum has always been house proud, nets washed weekly, curtains and cushions washed each month etc but she's now realised that they still smell of smoke - I think she's going to be washing and scrubbing for England now!
Early start to get DD1's photographs framed and ready to go to the gallery, we got to the college to find that no one else has even printed their stuff let alone thought about framing....how this exhibition is going to open on Friday is anyones guess.....I wanted to step in and get them all organised.
DD2 had her last revision session for tomorrows final maths exam and then she's done! It's been a bit of a slog with them both in full blown exam/assessment mode.
DH has gone back to bed, they've been playing with his meds again so come lunch time he's utterly exhausted - he slept from 1-6.30pm yesterday and was asleep again by 10.30pm....this can't go on as life has to fit in there somewhere.
I've got a lonely chicken breast in the fridge so think I'll pop it in a pie with some veg for tea - a cheap way to feed the 4 of us."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
eeek, Pooky, I'm panicing now - according to DD's exam timetable she has got Chemistry tomorrow then maths on Wednesday - not tomorrow. (She has also got two more maths papers next week but she's doing Further Maths as well as Maths and I think the two next week are Further Maths). Which exam board is your DD doing? They usually timetable exams for the same day/ time. My worst nightmare is her having an exam that isn't on her timetable:eek::eek:It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Hello everyone
Sorry haven't been around for a couple of days. My back had been getting better so I did a proper shop at a couple of supermarkets on Friday with lots of heavyish stuff. I was careful, not packing too much in one bag etc. Out to a big park with a group of friends and assorted children after school and then woke up Sat morning to a terrible back again. 3rd lot of back trouble over last few weeks. Managing to get some stuff done but everything takes longer and by early eve I am exhausted with the effort and sleepy with the painkillers.
It is school sports week so I am to and fro school all week. Instead of going to see one DS for a particular sport then the other (to save time and petrol)and then being free - I am dropping children off, hanging around until first activity and then going home/out elsewhere and then coming back for another sport towards the end of the day and then hang about til home time to give my back a rest from standing. I absolutely love seeing the children in lesson time but don't get a lot done that week. Also have a friend's birthday do, my last counselling session and some shopping trips and other errands to fit in this week.
Big hugs to ((((((((burtha and nutty))))))))))
Hope the dentist went ok kidcat and glad to hear you and docky got some sleep last night Mrs LW.
Hope DH gets sorted asap Pooky and DD's final exam goes well. Don't panic mary - surely the exam boards confer? let us know the outcome and try and keep calm at least on the surface for DD.
Welcome home AOT. Glad you had a lovely holiday (despite the laundry pile and swollen feet)
better go do stuff

Hello toughies. It's a warm but duller day here. The breeze is refreshing at least.
We have had a busy weekend. It started with a beach trip on Friday evening. The girls (and DH!) had their wetsuits on and snorkel. DH swam and made use of the free sea to exercise. I sat shore side watching the girls while taking photo's. We didn't take a picnic but was a nice way to spend a freebie hour on a nice evening. Saturday was our local Folk Festival. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Again a freebie day sat on the green watching the shows. We have to admit to buying wood fired pizza to eat while we watched thoughAnd Sunday we were tourists and visited Lyme Regis. It was lovely, weather was perfect, nice beach and not too commercialised (compared to some beach towns) but the best bit was walking through the colourful back streets in the glorious sun... we could have been abroad!
So a busy, cheap and enjoyable weekend to be had.
My bill came in from my previous electric supplier so that needs to be paid off in a chunk. I am now relieved to have not set up a direct debit with them because with experience I know that anything owed is taken out without warning. I have 'pots' and it's accounted for... but not the working current account that is budgeted strictly!
I'm about to get stuck in to a fish pie for tea. Just that and a side of roast carrots. The recipe says to use boiled egg but I'm not feeling that. I will ditch the egg.
The big uniform getting begins in this house. Eldest is moving to Middle School come Sept but thankfully all I need is to purchase the school sweatshirt and tie. Everything else can be supermarket bought. I was pleased to see the school advertise their hardship fund and second hand uniform sale on the letter
Oh and speaking of the school. Remember I was really worried about eldest DD waiting outside of school alone come September as I needed to be at youngest DD's school at the same time? Well an accompanying letter apologised to parents that they are extending the school day by 10 minutes. Apologise? I was thrilled! It means that DD should only be waiting a minute or so, if at all.
Well I must crack on and muster some energy (and a smile for the DH) he's sea fishing tomorrow night so wish him luck for all things not dog fish shaped!0 -

Fuddle, dogfish is a tasty fish, used to be sold as Rock Salmon or Huss. One big cartilage and no pin bones, it really is worth trying.

Hi everyone.
Lyn: Aw! Poor old Docky. Please give him an extra special hug from his Auntie Monna.
Knitwitch: We used to have an enormous German Shepherd who thought she was a lap dog. I have a lovely photo of DS1 with Sharma on as much of his lap as possible and various parts of her hanging over the sides of the chair.
When we moved to the Island we had 2 ancient cats and were very worried about how they would manage the journey. The vet gave us a spray called Happy Cat to spray the inside of the car with. I'm not sure how it affected the cats but the Rev and I drove to the ferry with broad smiles on our faces and no clear idea of how we got there.
Stilty: Chin up love, you're nearly there. Just keep your mind on how lovely it will be to move in. Spare a thought for those who have another 6 weeks to go and are living in the midst of absolute, hellish chaos. Our moving date has been moved back a week as our manse won't be ready in time. More to the point, WE won't be ready in time.
Meanmarie: Lots of love and hugs petal. Can't imagine what you are going through but know that it won't be good. Hope you are getting lots of support.
We had a hectic weekend. The church put on a 'Hollywood Night' on Saturday. It was hilarious. Everyone dressed up but the best was a little lady who arrived as Charlie Chaplin and her husband who was Long John Silver. Charlie had an eclair to eat at refreshment time and her moustache got stuck to the cream. I will long cherish the sight of the Rev shimmying around the hall doing her cabaret act and serenading the Church Treasurer with 'Hey! Big Spender!'
Regarding the Birdman, 'Elf & Safety' have reared their ugly heads and the whole event has been postponed. This is an annual event that has happened for many years so goodness knows what they have found to object to. My DIL says that she is cancelling the Life Insurance she had taken out for him - no point now!
Back to the boxes.

Is it only this country that has elf and safety? They are taking away traditions all over the place, so sad. I know in other countrys they have religious days and carry wobbly looking plinths with saints on all over town and every one has a day of celebration - couldnt do that here. Sorry it really bugs me.
I have the same thing here Pooky with OH, have been waiting all day for him to get up but he is exhausted with it all. The spine injections didnt work and he is very frustrated.
Mean marie not much we can say, hope you get some help with your problems or at least support - can send hugs though, got loads of them going spare.
My garden is doing well this year, have super courgette plants and either cucumbers or little squashes that grow upwards - not sure as I got mixed up but eventually I will be able to tell:rotfl:
Monna and Stilty, hope all goes well with the moving xxClearing the junk to travel light

Hi guys
Sorry for my absence, some days I just felt like doing nothing, so indulged in the feeling, other days I just couldn't sit still, so have been cleaning, sorting, shredding, gardening and painting trellis,, or as I have began to call it, hellish! Note to self, next time paint the damn stuff BEFORE it's put up and screwed to the posts....!
Anyway just wanted to say I am here, I am getting up every day, and some how putting one foot in front of the other and continuing my journey. I can't say it's better now, but it has got easier to cope. late DH's pensions have been finally sorted ,that will start paying out at the end of the month so I don't have to panic about paying the mortgage now.
I have done a few shadow shifts at work and start back properly this Sunday. Slow return but in a new unit that is having issues, apparently I am seen as a trouble shooter! And I'm being sent in to sort out some of the issues there., shame a wage increase doesn't come with it.
Any way I have read some of the thread and will go back and catch up.
Just wanted to say hi , hello and send love, hugs and strength to those that need it.

CC I'm glad you've been keeping busy and you have the mortgage payments sorted. Why do pensions take so bleeding long to sort out??
Take it easy going back to work, trouble shooter or not

the best part is the first later I got was a demand to pay back 6 days worth of my husbands pension because he died on the 25th and they had made a payment that went in on the 31st ... but all sorted now. Thankfully .
And I have a great manager.. He and I started working for the camp any at the same time, as support workers,so he's a friend as well. And has been very supportive.xtoday's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.
