    Did I smell Birthday cake?

I've been down the lottie all day today and had a lovely time until DH fell through the shed roof.

He was finally getting round to fixing it for me and the first I knew of it was when he rang me to ask if I could unlock the shed as he couldn't get out.

I can laugh now but at the time it was very scary as there was blood everywhere running down his face.

He seems ok now but as he's not a lottie fan I can't see me getting any jobs done any time soon :rotfl:

Happy Birthday Master Kidcat! Hope your having a great day!!

Poor Mr PIC! Glad to hear that its mainly his pride hurt rather than anything more serious. Are you in the dog house? Or should that be shed?

Been fairly quite here today. OH is working long hours this week. So each evening / night its just arranging things for one. It does make a change to have some time, Just for me.

I've been looking at some bits to do as a hobby. As many of you know, Getting out and about is hard for me alone therefore its finding something that i can do from home.

After spending a couple of hours this evening searching the web, I think i have found something that suits me. Crafting with wood.
So, I will be saving some pennies (From smoking budget) and will buy myself a small starter kit. Ideal time to start as my first project will be for baby Ruby's first birthday present. (One of them at least):rotfl:

I had some good news too. I heard from my older sister and she plus her little ones (Who aren't so little anymore) have booked a hotel room to come down and see us for a weekend. So something to look forward to at the end of this month.

I have decided to revise our debt repayments tomorrow too. Mainly because since being a member on here with you lot, It seems we are better off. Not just with cash, But in ourselves & in our relationship too.

We both have a much better understanding of having a back up plan, Not wasting money, Trying to save and a general sense of make do & mend - So much so, Because we're even repairing little things we would normally chuck out (SOCKS!)

Hope everyone is well....I will leave it there for now. Take care everyone x
    Future goals:
    Become debt free.
    Beat Depression.
    Be happy & healthy
  • I read this thread every day (sometimes a lot more than once, so that I can keep up with it all....any help for my addiction? :rotfl:) but wanted to completely agree with Princessx87, we too have to be very careful with money as only DH is working supporting me and our teenage DD's but with everything I have learnt on here everyone has noticed that even though we have had to cut our food bill, electric, gas, water bill that we 'seem' to be better off.

I cook all the meals from scratch and we can eat really well for a small price, today's meal was left over pork from yesterday, stir fry, noodles put in the wok with my home made sweet and sour sauce and for pudding we had apple pie with custard. Dinner cost approximately £1.50 for the 3 of us and pudding was 50p for all of us as the apples were picked last summer and frozen, both my DH and DD are sitting here telling me I will have to roll them to bed at this rate! :rotfl:

Thank you to you all here, you keep me motivated on a daily basis and give me lots of inspiration to help me save even more money x

Evening all, hope you all well.

Well, it's looking like chez stilty is going to be moving. We've been looking for social housing since last year as we know we are going to need adaptations doing for the children as they get bigger and last week something popped up on the list, first one in an appropriate area that fits the bill. We were lucky enough to be top of the list and so we have been to see it twice (with an OT today) and are just waiting for final confirmation that the adaptations required are doable and can be funded before we sign on the dotted line. Big mixed feeling about it to be honest as we love the village we live in and we love our house (it's just not adaptable even if the private LL would let us) but new place is only a mile down the road so we will still be near by and it will be so good to have somewhere we can have adapted so we struggle less. It's a massive job to get sorted as it has no carpets/curtains etc and needs completely redecorating as previous tenant had cats who have scratched the place to bits. We will also need a big shed to house all the bulky stuff as there is less room and so less storage and will have to do a major declutter to pack up. They also want us in ASAP (like keys this week!!) so will have an overlap to pay for (thank heavens for bank of Mum and Dad) and I have my end of module assignment due end of this week, we're away next week, then half term and then DH has his exam on the 3rd!!!! Think there is going to be an awful lot of very strong coffee consumed here and a fair bit of midnight oil burning. I had a big cry over the whole thing when we first looked at the house as it is so daunting and the timing is not great, never mind that we don't really want to leave this place which we had always said we wanted as our forever house and we would have asked LL if we could buy it if we were in a position to buy before the whole disability thing reared its head. But I've kind of come round to it now - it will be a lovely house when it is all sorted and it does have the potential for the adaptations we need it also gives us greater freedom to decorate etc than we've ever had in a private let and at least we'll know we are secure. It's also got a huge garden which we can actually make safe unlike the garden we have at the moment so once it is sorted we will be able to let our little daredevil boy have a bit more freedom.

Going to be a bit manic here (possibly the understatement of the year) so if you don't hear from me, don't worry, I'll be reading and chipping in when I get chance - H X

Fab news Stilty, just make sure your social landlords do any renovations after previous damage, also see if it needs new wiring, boiler, central heating, roof works etc and check state of kitchen & bathroom fittings as its easier to get those jobs done before you move in. Also ask about making garden safe & level for your youngsters, and ask about storage for their kit - you never know!

Cheers Floss (my auntie always used to call me flossy as a pet name) Boiler, wiring, kitchen ok - bathroom would be ok except it's one of our areas for DFG grant as we have specific needs for the kids' disabilities, garden - again would be ok except for specific needs so have higher fencing down as an urgent need as Ds is a climber! (and more worryingly a launcher offer - lol!) No offers re storage, already asked but as things go a sturdy shed and a couple of good padlocks isn't as scary a cost as I thought it might be.

Cheers for your help though, will make sure roof is ok too - X

Fab news Stilty - just think how much easier life will be when it's all done! Overwhelming for now but I think any move is, this will give you so much more security and peace of mind and how fab that it's so close to where you currently are.

DD2 goes headlong into her GCSEs today with 3 exams. She's a bit stressy bless her.

    Morning all,

Princess, I love the sound of your hobby--what sorts of things will you make? Well done on saving the pennies from smoking! I too feel better when I pop in here. My work life has been very stressful and often very unhappy these past few years, and my health although not anything like what others endure hasn't been easy either. This thread reminds me that there is a lot more to life than my small worries and reminds me to savour the luxuries of being rich in OS!

Stilty, that is marvellous news! It sounds very daunting, but I'm sure you will having it feeling like home in no time. How wonderful that you've found a place now. It seems like I'm always hearing about people making do without adaptations because the waiting list is so long. When you get a chance, pop in and tell us about all of your nesting!

Kidcat, I hope it was a nice celebration and that the grandparents were well-behaved!

Righ, I've meetings today and then its back home to get some work done. Hugs to all!
  • STILTWALKER Hi HELEN incredibly good news love, and although daunting in prospect will be so very satisfying when you have the new home sorted to your liking, I'm so pleased for you. Re- storage I believe you can buy old shipping containers which make wonderful storage areas (some people even live in them!!!) and if you had enough room in the new big garden it would be a very good way of getting a 'ready made' and secure storage facility to take all the kiddlers equipment. Let us know how it all goes, fingers crossed for you all.

PX87 and MOS firstly be very proud of yourselves for making your own lives better and happier and for actually making all those little changes that make the difference to your OS lifestyle and secondly you are both now the inspiration to others who are maybe just reading along without the confidence to start making those changes in thier own lives. Your journeys will kick start a whole new bunch of folks into thinking they can also start to make life better and learn how to think OS Style. Brilliant stuff guys, so lovely to actually get people posting positive posts and knowing you are both better off and happier for living and learning how to be Old Style, good on you both, Lyn xxx.
