Hi everyone. Its been a few days since i last post. Its still crazy here but some improvements. I am now a non smoker of 4 days! Currently saving £13! I have managed to make a start during this really stressful time and stuck to it.
I've been told that i should find the rest of the time easier as the days go by, But god help anyone who finds theirselves the wrong side of me at the min.
Went back to the doctors. It seemed i did have low iron levels. Under 30, Which i am told isn't great. So iron vitamins for me along with a higher dose of A/D's.
Hopefully it shouldn't be long until i start feeling "normal" again. I've got to say i hate depression. It seems i spend more time down then anything else.
As a treat for everything & because i have been told to book a hair cut!Future goals:
Become debt free.
Beat Depression.
Be happy & healthy0 -
Congratulations Princess! Four days during such a tough time is a real achievement and I think bodes well for your success! My own father quite smoking when I was 15 and it prompted me to break one of my own bad habits from childhood.
A tiny bit of sewing today--made a new peg bag as the old one was fraying. Made over a feather wand that had lost its feathers by tying on some ribbons. Puss is now very happy with her new toy. Will have a bit of a tidy up and then makign Lyn's African Beans for tea. Also got some rhubarb on super 6. we don't need any pudding tonight but will make a crumble some time in the week. Does any one know if cooking it in the PC is a good idea? Otherwise will pop it into the SC.
I've just been thinking about all of the small things we do at home that make life that much nicer. My new peg bag was made out of a scrap and the old hook part from the one that came from the pound shop--but its pretty and will make me smile when I look at it. Going to pin up some nice pictures above my desk when I tidy up and making a list of projects that take 15 minutes or less but that will have a similar effect (i.e. hang a couple of hooks where they're needed, refill some old sachets made by mum with fresh dried lavender, finally order a battery for the old Bush radio we were given, cut off a dress I bought in a CS that will make a cute top but is too snug round the hips.
Most of it doesn't cost anything or take much time but will make me very happy when its done.0 -

I have had low iron for years and am on permanent supplements to maintain levels as I have poor absorption. It took YEARS of tests and monitoring for them to come to the conclusion that I just need to keep taking the stuff.
It's worth taking Vit C with the iron, and avoiding caffiene, which reduces absorbtion. It is also advisable to start a high-fibre diet before starting the iron pills  and if you still have problems, check with your GP whether a different type of iron tablet might work better.0 -
Four days is the toughest part out of the way!! so well done xx
I take iron tablets every day and I find it handy to keep in some poo biscuits or as the Muggles call them fig biscuits

Evening everyone
It seems like ages since I posted last, but the days are flying by so fast, it's frightening!
Dog walking is going well, Hound is fully off the lead when we are in a safe area, and going most days to a lovely field where lots of dogs gather and play. It is such a joy to watch them playing together nicely, especially when they all go mental an hare around after each other!
Well done PX87, if you can give up now, you know you can do it - life will always chuck stuff at us, so there is never a good time stop. Just count the money saved!
FPK, I cook rhubarb in the microwave, just wash, trim and chop and put it into a microwavable bowl (I use the cheap plastic jugs from Tesco/Wilko, the big and small ones make very versatile containers for doing all sorts). Add a bit of water, just enough to create some steam, and cover with clingfilm. It only takes about 3-4 mins. I add sugar after, as I like mine sharp and OH likes his sweet! We love it just as it comes with cream, or custard, but once cooked you can do so much with it.
It's still so cold here - or at least the wind is, it really does not feel like May. Here's hoping it warms up a bit soon, we are getting though our winter log pile, and that was for the end of the year!
ETA - if using the rhubarb for crumble, strain off most of the liquid, otherwise it can be a bit mushy - personally I loathe crumble of any sort , but love drinking the chilled rhubarb juice!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Great tips Mrs. C. Thank you!0

Congrats on four days of being smoke free!!! That's a huge accomplishment. Give yourself a bit of a treat with the saved $$$.
Mother's Day here. Warm (by our standards 8C). Cake's in the oven, trying a marmalade loaf and it's about to ding.
Hope everyone has a good week ahead of them.0 -
Morning all,
Just about to begin a very busy week so wanted to pop in and offer hugs and encouragement to all. Hopefully I'll be back to check in and with updates.0 -
Morning toughies, Mrs C you have got him trained really quickly, well done
PX87 - well done and keep up the good work
FPK - hope the week goes well for you
I have been for my first gym session this morning, its DS16 birthday today so it was a really busy morning but I was determined not to skip. Rest of week is incredibly busy as I am in school helping with sats and kids all seem to have appointments.
I found it really hard work, and one machine I couldn't even manage the lowest setting, which shows how unfit I am. Hopefully I will notice a difference in a couple of months
Am exhausted now thoughwe will have a visit from my parents I assume later (although they havent been in touch to see what time would be best) , DD8 has swimming lesson and we are off out to dinner, DS chose the place. OH is miles away and is unlikely to be back and DD19 woke up with head ache, aching all over and shivering so is back in bed, so it may just be four of us. So if they don't call, the likelihood is they will miss us.
DS16 is thrilled with his gifts, his favourite being a T-shirt with his kitty's picture printed onHe has gone out wearing it this morning
