  • SHEILA hope you're not too sore and uncomfortable today and that all went well for your sister yesterday as well. I don't suppose you'll be posting for a couple of days but wanted you to know I've been thinking of you both, get well soon, Lyn xxx.

    Hello everyone,

Having a quick breather in between tasks. Thanks guys, I won't buy flowers. I don't think my friend will be expecting me to but she is very old fashioned and likes things done "properly" IFYKWIM so wanted to see what others thought. Thanks also for sharing your personal stories - nutty love the veggies wreath, so personal.

AOT - now be honest did you have a little tipple before you fell? :) Seriously, I hope you are feeling better today.

Sorry forgotten all the other posts doh! Big hugs all round anyway. Thinking of Sheila and her sister and kidcat will be thinking of you tomorrow and anyone else in a similar boat.

My two have gone off to school dressed in 1940s and 1960s gear for their respective dances at a local church the school have links with. DS7 was a happy boy this morning! They have a heritage project and appeal for new bells there. Off to help shepherd littlies in DS7's class at lunchtime.

Hosting a lunch tomorrow for a group of friends I met on a course. I have never played hostess with the mostess with these lovely ladies before and already anxiety re the house, the food, the whole malarkey is kicking in.... however.... I am managing it far better than normal. I know these friends have come to see me and each other and not pass judgement on me but still I struggle with anxiety, our kitchen is literally falling apart and the living room is full of bags of clothes etc as I am a big mid decluttering session and won't be shifting the bags til Thurs at the earliest.

ok few more bits before I head out, we have lovely sunshine here... sorry Mar.... your turn soon surely?

    sq :)

Coming out of lurkdom ...... SQ please dont stress over your get together. I'm quite sure your friends will be so happy to meet up & I know if I'm invited anywhere thats pristine I end up with a serious feeling of total inadequacy! Enjoy your time with your friends

  • Hello SILVASAVER, Pushkin says Purrrrrrrr to Pushkin!!! How is your niece getting on these days, I'm hoping that she's made some progress since her stroke all those months ago and is finding life easier???

Hi Mrs L - Chirrup from my Pushkin to yours! Thank you so much for asking about my niece. She is progressing albeit very slowly. She is getting much more stable on her feet but her sight in one eye has been damaged & they don't think it will improve. She is an avid reader too so I've suggested a Kindle as she can enlarge the print to suit herself. She's such a plucky & determined girl I know she will make the best of what she has. (so much like all the lovely people on here) How's all your planting going & your polytunnels??? My green beans seem to be hit & miss so far this year :(

  • Glad she's made some progress, even slow progress is good when it's something as major as a stroke, I hope she continues to steadily improve as time goes on. We've all the windowsills covered with sprouting seedlings of various kinds, and a good stand of peas and a courgette planted in the polytunnel and growing on. The fruit bushes are all looking healthy, best are the gooseberries which are in full leaf and the Kent Cobnut bushes we planted in the autumn are all breaking into leaf too so hopefully we're on for a decent harvest. I've just cut and cooked the first asparagus of the year from the garden and our globe artichoke plants have put up 1 large and 3 smaller heads so I'll harvest those soon. All the ground is dug, tilled and ready for planting, the apple trees, including the crab apple they got us for christmas are breaking into leaf and the damson tree has blossom on for the first time, good eh? Lyn xxx.

I have fruit & veg envy - lol
We hard pruned a lovely gage a couple of years ago that my dear departed Mum bought me. I thought we'd gone too far but this year it's covered in blossom & the bees & hoverflies have been working hard so fingers crossed for a good harvest. DS1 had a couple of pounds of rhubarb from me on Sunday but other than that nothing else is producing at the moment but I'm gearing up!!

  • We've been picking rhubarb for about a fortnight now, and the main crop stuff is looking good too. We've still got quite a few leeks standing and some nice parsnips in the ground on the lottie and he who knows planted out garlic, onion sets and new potatoes a couple of weeks ago too, must be SPRING!!!

Healing vibes to all the poorly people.

We're still trying to make headway at the "Now not homeless mans" house. There's still a lot to do at the house but his heating is working and the window glass has been ordered. DH is rewiring the house for him so apart from the mates rate plumber his bill has been kept really low.

It helps to know a toughy ;)

Sunday afternoon and an hour this afternoon I have managed to sneak down the lottie, where do all the weeds come from  I've only been away a week (sorting NNHM) I think they may have picked up their leaves and traveled from everyone elses allotment as theirs all look lovely and neatly dug and mine looks like a weed party :o

Life seem so much better when the suns out doesn't it?

MrsL let me know how your stew turns out
