we have huge numbers of parakeets here and TBH they are a real plague. They screech continuously, swoop around in great noisy flocks and their poo can damage car paintwork in a very short time, more so than that of other birds. They are also driving out a lot of the smaller birds. There were some in an aviary in an old house (since demolished) which escaped and started breeding in the woods on the estate and now the population has reached a critical level so they are spreading out to colonise all the trees in suburban gardens as well. They seem to disappear in winter though - are they migratory? It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Hope you're feeling a bit better Princess.
Brrrrr I'm cold! Am trying to manage without the heating on except for a couple of hours when the children get home, and it's usually OK but for some reason today I'm freezing.
Have done more sorting and listed lots on my local Facebook page, and already had some sales. Just as well, as that cash is already earmarked for dance and karate lessons. The house is beginning to feel less 'busy' though. Minimalist might be too much to expect but I definitely prefer a pared down look.0 -
Possession if you're still cold today then turn some heating on - you probly getting a chill pet xx.
I am a born minimalist, I could happily live in a white room with only a carpet and a comfy couch (and a laptop!!)0 -
Thanks everyone,
Waited at the dentist for 40 minutes before it was decided that no one could see me. Instead I came home with some more advice, Which seems to have worked. Last night I managed my first meal in a week. Pasta!
This morning I have woken up, Less swelling, Less pain, and I finally can bite down on my teeth iykwim.
Right now, I feel much brighter about having the work done. But if I had to go through it all again, I think I will decline. Instead, Better oral care all round is needed.
Got someone coming today to collect some of ruby’s outgrown bits & bobs. I done free to collector on it all, Because I like the idea that someone else can make use of it. I happily had a lady message me last night. She works for a children’s cancer charity and will use the goods for families in urgent need.
Then, With the rest of my day, I’m going to bag / bin some bits that are good.
Better get moving. Speak soon all. xFuture goals:
Become debt free.
Beat Depression.
Be happy & healthy0 -
maryb - I just looked at Wikipedia (I know, I know, but I had to start somewhere
) and it doesn't mention migration, though it does say that a hard winter has a natural culling affect on them, but that they are surprisingly hardy for a tropical bird.
I've only seen them around here (Bexley in SE London) recently, and only since the trees were bare. I can imagine what a nuisance they are if a flock of them persists in one place. Oddly enough I haven't heard much in the way of screeching, more whistling, but when they've come to our garden there hasn't been a huge number of them.
PRINCESS I hope the dentist was able to help you yesterday. Edit - just read your post, so glad you're feeling a bit better.
Possession - I'm trying to do sorting too, though it's difficult sometimes as OH finds it very hard to let things go. I have to be very gentle about it and get him to think it was his own idea to part with whatever it is. He knows he has a problem, and thinks it's because his family was very poor when he was a child so they never threw anything away "just in case". When his mother died it took his stepfather weeks and weeks to get rid of stuff she'd hoarded in the spare room, and most of it was only fit to be thrown away. At least OH doesn't hoard things like old carrier bags, though he does find it hard to put good solid cardboard boxes in the recycling
Sunny here again today, whatever next? It's the second "bin day" in a row that I won't have to don my wellies to get the bins in.
We have to go food shopping today, though looking at my list it's one of those weeks when we need to get an awful lot of things that aren't food-related.
Did anyone watch "Sewing Bee" last night? I felt so sorry for the lady who attached the skirt to its bodice inside out, that's just the sort of thing I'd doThough actually it was very cheering to know that experienced dressmakers do it too.
Hope everyone has a good day! (((HUGS))) to everyone who needs some.0 -

Morning all, have already done the first load of washing, all pegged out in the sunshine. Then I managed to plant the primulas under the hedgerow at the front of the house. It looks lovely now, just a touch of colour. In the factory shop today they had mini roses for 50p, so I bought some and they are planted in some pots. If I keep deheading them they should look good for a while.
Tomorrow is the last day to use last weeks aldi voucher, so me and mum will be doing a joint shop so it can be used up. We need just a few bits n bobs, still trying to use up some more odds and ends in the freezer - at least its doing some good and its saving some money.
Princess im glad your feeling better, I know it took me quite a while to eat properly after having teeth out. the gums get very sore and all of them feel tender to bite with. I have to agree it was the best thing to have done, but I wouldn't want it done again in a hurry. I still have 1 wisdom tooth, and its needing extraction but will delay as long as possible, it sounds silly doesn't it!
Well I suppose I should get some housework done, just a quick hoover today will do I suppose. take care all xBSC member 137
