Re WBD - I no longer have School age children to provide costumes for. Also my local DGC are now at senior school and therefore do not take part in WBD. However local DGC's Mum is a teacher at primary School - she needs a costume. Never ends!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

You only have 45 days to open a dispute Kidcat, and don't seem to be able to do it if you paid by invoice anyway. I may have waved goodbye to my money.0

Still packing here! ! I swear when this is over I am culling over half of dd7 stuff. It's ridiculous the amount of stuff she has. Gonna cull living room stuff too getting rid of books that are too young for my lot and cds that have not been used in years. Will have to be when OH at work though
possession I didn't realise there was a time limit. That is a bummer.0 -
We have been quite ruthless Kidcat and got rid of lots, and it's only now it's gone I am realising we could have got rid of lots more without regrets. Gonna have to be a 2nd wave!0

I'm with Monna on the book swap, how dare they make a child do that, insensitive prats. Added to which, DGD's favourite book is The Guinness Book of World Records and has been for some years, couldn't see her swapping a copy of that for a tatty Harry Potter* paperback.
My DD had - and DGD also wore it- a genuine German dirndl that walked off with a few WBD prizes as DD went to different schools over the years (as Heidi). I think they'd removed the competitive element by the time DGD wore it.
*She is a big HP fan and has all the books anyway.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
I am going to do the unthinkable and buy a book from the charity shop to take - she has loads we could give away, all too young for her, but as its to be swapped with a classmate it has got to be age appropriate. Her current favourite is Harry Potter or Horrid Henry, DD19 owns the Harry Potters and would not be happy if it was swapped, and DS9 owns the Henrys. Is ridiculous - I could donate enough books to start a new school library, having gone through DD7 room today and the living room too.0

My two did WBD once, after that they couldn't be bothered. There's no way I'd be going out to buy a costume, I see some people on my FB have been out buying outfits ready for it.....madness. Glad mine are older now and don't have to take part in this malarky.
Really windy here tonight, it's making my house shake and rattle. Popped to Mr As for the weekly shop earlier this afternoon, they'd just done all the fruit and veg mark downs, bananas for 20p a kilo, big ripe juicy tomatoes 10p a kilo and carrots 10p a kilo.....I stocked up"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Evening all - hope everyone has had a good weekend.
We've been up to my parents after riding yesterday for haircuts and a nice visit - DD was so pleased to see her grandparents, she gave them the hugest squeezy hugs ever and quite possibly made their year so far!
DS has had a weekend of stunning progress - new words (and lovely appropriate context for them) and good communication, proper responses and everything. He also decided to come down the stairs on his bum rather than crawling backwards and did it with great control and finesse! and to top it all he did his best walking holding hands ever.
Kidcat - I'd be in school and telling them, a favourite book is just that - a book to be read and reread not to be 'made' to swap permanently - outrageous! Apart from that I'd say it was a very dangerous precedent for school to set that it is ok for kids to swap things permanently at school - can see some dodgy consequences and irate parents when children go on to swap other items.
Children are now bathed and in bed fast asleep - school stuff ready for tomorrow and all my papers printed out and read through for my meeting tomorrow. Just need to fill in my expenses form for my mileage as they all have to be in this week as it's coming up the end of the financial year. Only benefit of living in the largest county - when my mileage cheque arrives it's a nice little treat (as I've long since paid for the fuel out of housekeeping!!)
Take care all - hugs where needed - X0 -
Book swapping would have been a dangerous business had it been done when I was young. I read anything and everything, often not things designed specifically for children. While it seems to have done me good, I can just see some parent's faces when their little one walked in with Daphne DuMaurier.
Happy to report that a massive work milestone has been reached. A full first draft of the thesis is done. It is very much longer than is acceptable:eek: but still, it means I'm getting there. OH spent the weekend marking so we're both walking zombies.
OH's parents brought round some things for the kitten so now all we have left to get is litter and food. We've had several photos but I can't work out how to upload them.:o
Right, off to bed for me. Hugs to any and all who need them.0 -
Hi all.
Have had a restful day today. The Rev has started a three month Sabbatical so had her first Sunday off for years. She grandly said that she was going to stay at home and cook me lunch while I went to church. Well, the meat was prepared and sitting in the roasting pan for her, the roast potatoes and yorkshires had been made last week and were in the freezer and a cauliflower cheese made last night. All that was left for her to do was to shred cabbage and scrape carrots. Oh, and make gravy and put things in and out of the oven. This apparently involved using just about every utensil and basin in the kitchen! But I was duly grateful.
Doing nothing has worn me out so I'm having an early night.
