  • Just viewed the ALDI - facebook page - pleased to say there's plenty of new posts regarding parking eye charges with links to this forum and pepipoo - they still haven't learnt yet have they. Perhaps a few letters to head office requesting compensation for the distress caused and harassment may make them change their policy.

Can anyone please tell me what all the fuss is about on this thread?
As far as I can see, you are allowed to park for 90 minutes in an Aldi car park - surely that is more than enough time to park, do the shopping, load up and then leave, after all, there is only a limited amount of browsing you can do in Aldi, and it isn't as though they have a cafe or anything.
Maybe Aldi just want to stop people not shopping there, using their car park, whilst they wander off an a tour of the local town centre, instead of paying for parking like everyone else.
Why is it, that people nowadays feel "ENTITLED" to do what they want, and then moan when someone points out that they are in the wrong?
90 minutes to look around Aldi?
It takes me 90 minutes to do a tour of Selfridges or Harrods - not that I can afford anything there, but they are interesting places.

And how, exactly, does Parking Eye stop people parking there and wandering off into town? Also do Aldi have a right to stop people parking there and wandering off into town?
In a lot of the Aldi car parks it is a term of the council planning permission that they allow the car park to be used by people wandering off into town! Also part of the planning permission that they do not restrict the time to park!
How do Parking Eye stop people parking in disabled bays? They don't! The only use that Parking Eye have is to make money for themselves.
I think you need to do some reading of this thread if you think that Parking Eye are good for Aldi customers!

Your post assumes that the "people" concerned were aware of the restriction when they parked. Many of those caught out by this are those who arrived in a car park that had been entirely free of restriction the week before only to find themselves charged a ridiculous fee for supposedly breaching a "parking contract" they were unaware they had entered into. Ask yourself, how much can a company lose when a car is parked for 100 minutes, say, in a free car park with a limit of 90 minutes?

You might, indeed, only wish to browse for a few minutes in Aldi but others carry out their week or month's shopping there including the disabled. To necessarily expect the disabled to conduct their shopping in the same time as the able-bodied is to completely ignore or misunderstand the intention of the Equality Act. This is not about people whingeing about having been caught out by the law it is about what others might describe as exploitation. Or how else would you care to describe the actions of a company with no financial stake in the car park and whose only source of revenue depends on how many tickets they issue?
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

It's a great pity he didn't spend 90 minutes thoroughly reading this thread which has many examples of/links to some of the worst excesses of a company openly encouraging the aggressive pursuit of their customers by a third party, doing nothing when there was mass despatch of LBAs (the genesis of this thread) and now turning their back on their very own, genuine shoppers, who PE are dragging to court, many of whom are likely to be (from the cases we've seen), young mothers, the elderly and disabled.

Hooray for Selfridges, hooray for Harrods!
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

My wife can take 90 mins deciding what trolley she wants to use.

When someone receives a charge it doesn't stop them from parking over the limit in the future, it probably stops them going to Aldi again!

Unfortunately Aldi don't seem to get it.
