It's a big hello to new poster Angie Perky who has joined the fight against PE.
Do not engage with Philip South - IMO it is still gina/sarah/gary - pinky perky porky spy.0 -
Let's bounce this back to page 1 with another unhappy customer. Note how Aldi try and help.
Don't know who is less customer focussed - Aldi or Parking Eye??
I shop in Aldi occasionally. Last autumn I called into a midlands Aldi and bought some stuff. It was a wet and windy Sunday afternoon. When I came back to the car I decided to go for a coffee nearby. The car park was over half empty when I did this, and even emptier when I returned. In total my car was there for a bit over an hour and a half.
A few weeks later I received a demand for £70 from Parking Eye for overstaying my welcome! I spoke to a not very charming lady called Rachel at Aldi who was singularly unhelpful. Apparently if I were to do a 60 mile round trip with my receipt they might be able to help but if not then adios.
Now, I did some research on the web and it transpires that these charges are illegal. There is an appeals route to a body called POPLA, and it looks like almost 100% of appeals that go there are upheld. It's a bit of a faff though so I wrote to the Aldi MD and said that it seems a bit mad to put customers through this hoop; and clearly if I were to have to go through it then I'm not sure I'd want to be a future Aldi shopper. After all, why brass off your customers for them to get a parking ticket overturned when as Aldi they must know that the vast, vast majority of customer appeals are upheld.
Aldi didn't respond to the first letter but did to the second. They said the charges were fair and as a goodwill gesture they would reduce the charge to I think £27. I said I wasn't too happy about paying £27 to them for the privilege of spending money in their store.
Anyway - I went through the rigmarole of going to POPLA and to no one's great surprise they have upheld my appeal, and so I don't have to pay £70, or £27, or anything.
What surprises me is this.... Aldi presumably know that nearly all appeals to POPLA are upheld and yet:
1. Are happier for their customers to stop shopping with them (as I will after this experience) rather than help them.
2. Continue with a contract that charges extortionate sums of money to their own customers, even though they know the independent parking regulator will not uphold these charges.
I've asked the MD at Aldi for his view on this; maybe not surprisingly he hasn't had the courtesy to respond.0 -
I wonder what percentage kickbacks Aldi receive for each parking charge paid.

Not anAldi one but a thrashing at court for PE.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
I like the note the judge made about the victim contacting the police if he has evidence of perjury. That could be a big problem for parking eye/capita.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
