We've got quite a few throughout birmingham - though I think its only the main ones that are open 24 hours (the one nearest me closes at about 8pm)

I live in Grimsby and there are four police stations around here and it's only a small town - there's one in immingham, one in cleethorpes, one in town and one in great Coates.

My first thoughts were it was about an historic abuse case - hence the questions about who lived there, when and ages.

That being said I wouldn't give these details over the phone to anyone and as it is still bothering you, I think you should pop to your local station (or give them call) and let them know what happened.

It's only my mum and me living here and it's been us for the past 8 years - there's never been any abuse or anything awful like that, and none of my past boyfriends have ever lived with me or anything. The fact that this person was so eager to talk to me made me wonder if they suspected I had done something, but in 2009 I would have been 16 and I know for a fact I haven't done anything wrong. As for my mum she wouldn't hurt a fly. Nothing about what the woman on the phone said added up. As I said I do want to tell the police but after reading some scare stories about people thinking they can sort it all out by talking to the police and digging themselves into a hole it has put me off and I am planning on just waiting and seeing if they contact me again - as I said though it was almost five months ago so it is probably unlikely that they will come back.

If they had thought YOU had done something wrong, you would know about it. It wouldn't have been a quick chat over the phone.

The police aren't there to be scary, they are there to help. If you have been scammed (and it is a possibility as it doesn't sound like that was a proper calling card you found) then you need to let them know, as someone out there may have fallen for it.

They did ask to talk to me though but that's when I lied and said we hadn't lived here for long :( really don't know what to do x

Why not just pick up the phone right now?

Use Google, get the local non-emergency number, call it, ask for the Officer and then take it from there.

All the speculation here is not helping you... It is just muddying the waters.

Ring them, explain and then this worry will be over.

P.S. was this this your thread?

If they haven't been back Daisy, they are more than likely never going to come back. Not after 5 months! If they DID come back, I would literally say I couldn't even remember the conversation, or what was said. That said, from what you have said, I'm not even sure it was genuinely the police anyway.

I think you could do more harm than good by contacting them now, as whatever the issue was, by raking it up again, you may come across as trying too hard to cover your tracks, and they will probably wonder why you lied in the first place. I could understand you worrying if this happened yesterday but it was five months ago. Forget about it...

I know someone will say, 'obstructing a police officer in the line of duty' - but where's the proof of what was said? it's all hearsay.

    That's not hearsay!

If the person to whom the OP spoke gave evidence, that would be evidence, not hearsay.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
