Did I do the right thing? (Lied to the police)

I dont get why all this fear over the police.
They're normal people.
Learn your rights, and even the 'bent out of shape' coppers will stay clear.
They deal with violent druggies, rapists, murderers. They're used to people lying.
If lying to the police wa a crime, every single person pulled over, would be arrested.0 -
I agree they need to know if it was a scam but if it has happened to other people then they will have probably reported it. As I said before I don't really want to drop my self in it and go to the police station because if it really was the police then I technically lied to the police and could get into trouble for it, and I'm not sure if they would be very understanding.
Don't do it then.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Sadly some arent normal people, as my family found out last year, some are vindictive people who use their badge of authority to cause people real distress.
And thats the minority, but it does happen. And the one we met was extremely bent out of shape, lets put it that way
And the member of my family who ended up on the receiving end of a police vendetta, in her job no less, shes a well respected professional person, has said that she would never ever call the police to deal with anything unless it was a matter of life and death. And I now feel the same. It worked out alright for my relative but we went through 7 months of hell before things were sorted and she was abused by several police officers, part of this detective inspectors vendetta against her.
Because his kid lied about something that happened, or didnt happen in the classroom, even though there were 2 adult witnesses. Its rotten apples like that that put people off any figure of authority.
And thats not to put the OP off, but you get good and bad in all professions.0 -
^not very helpful.
A doctor nearly killed a relative of mine last year, but guess what, I'll still go to a doctor if I need to! Because its madness to judge thousands of people based on the actions of one, I think its called prejudice...0 -

Has your relative complained to the IPCC? It's important that harrassment and more are reported, so that bad apples like this are forced out of the job, and if necessary prosecuted.0 -

It's true though. My partner was treated appallingly by the police who told blatant lies and harassed him where there was no need.
I used to think they were basically good people who did their best for the greater good and their main priority was to help people. Not any more. Kind of sad really, especially as I'm sure there are some fair and decent ones out there.0 -

My partner and I filed an official complaint covering a number of points and were basically told that that was the way things worked and they were perfectly within their rights to behave how they did, or it was his / our word against theirs and they couldn't find any evidence to support our claims.
I was constantly lied to and fobbed off whenever I chased up the progress of my complaint. It was an utter joke.0 -

Ugh.
You know, you've probably met police officers not in uniform and not even realised because they're just normal nice humans without horns or 666 on their heads.0 -

That's a force complaint then, IPCC wouldn't say that im sure! Who did you complain to, and who did you chase it up with?0 -

Yes of course I have. I know not all police officers are the devil, but my opinion of them has been severely tainted and I am convinced that a lot more of them take advantage of their power than most people realise.0
