Did I do the right thing? (Lied to the police)

If the person to whom the OP spoke gave evidence, that would be evidence, not hearsay.
I know and that's what I'm worried about. As I didn't see any police ID though I doubt that it would go as far as it could do if I had lied under caution or to the persons face.0 -
If they haven't been back Daisy, they are more than likely never going to come back. Not after 5 months! If they DID come back, I would literally say I couldn't even remember the conversation, or what was said. That said, from what you have said, I'm not even sure it was genuinely the police anyway.
I think you could do more harm than good by contacting them now, as whatever the issue was, by raking it up again, you may come across as trying too hard to cover your tracks, and they will probably wonder why you lied in the first place. I could understand you worrying if this happened yesterday but it was five months ago. Forget about it...
That's exactly what I was thinking that it would look bad if I walked into the police station and it turned out to be a real detective, despite obviously having nothing to hide. I think it might be a case of them having the wrong address but its not done my anxiety any good lol x0 -
P.S. was this this your thread?
Yes it wasobviously I am still worried about it though.
So, take the advice given in both threads and follow this up with the only ones that can help to put your mind at rest - the police.
This endless to-ing and fro-ing of posts isn't going to solve anything as none of us knows the facts of the case.
Call them... it's the only way to clear this up.:hello:0 -

I do want to - but as it was almost five months ago I feel a bit reluctant to drag it up again considering no one has re contacted me, and I kind of hope/assume that they have gathered that it was nothing to do with me or my mum. If it really is the police, then they probably won't be very happy at all that they've wasted five months and I am worried that I could incriminate my self by effectively handing myself in for something I know nothing about and know I haven't done.0 -

You just keep saying the same thing over and over... are you hoping for a different response?
Strangers on an internet forum do not have any answers for you... the only ones that know the facts are the police.... call them to sort it out or live with the worry - your choice.:hello:0 -
All of the time spent by helpful people advising the OP (twice - the first thread showing lack of respect for the advisers) and fretting about this could have been entirely avoided with one single call to 101 (that gets you through to your local switchboard, wherever you are in the country).
I have depression and anxiety issues myself - but I'd leap at a chance to rid myself of one cause for distress if a simple 'phone call was all that was needed.
The switchboard person/front-desk Rozzer won't mind. 'Phone 101 - what do you have to lose?!
Unless you've done something illegal yourself (which, from what you have posted thus far, you haven't) you have nothing to fear.0 -

Think of it this way - if it WAS a scam, then in 5 months, other people could have been scammed, and something bad could have happened to someone.
So just call 101 NOW, and get to the bottom of it. You are not wasting the police time. If it was bogus, they need to know, if it was genuine, then they can sort whatever it was out.
I really don't see what the issue is - just call 101!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I agree they need to know if it was a scam but if it has happened to other people then they will have probably reported it. As I said before I don't really want to drop my self in it and go to the police station because if it really was the police then I technically lied to the police and could get into trouble for it, and I'm not sure if they would be very understanding.0

Yes if the person she spoke to, it would be. but why do the police record their interviews, why give a caution?
Because they know that there is no evidence, outside of his or her 'word', and thats not enough!0
