Did I do the right thing? (Lied to the police)

I lied to the police. It was about how long I have lived at my address. They contacted me via a note through the door saying please call me (I never saw any identification) and I rang the number on it (not 999 or 101, a local number that didn't show up on Google or anything).
I was told it wasn't mine or the other person who lives here's names they had and that our neighbours hadn't reported us or anything like that but the police still wanted to talk to me as part of an investigation from something that happened four years ago.
The police refused to to tell me what it was about and wanted to come and 'show me something'. I was also asked a lot of random questions like if I worked and when I'd be home. Anyway I felt uneasy, freaked out completely and lied about how long we'd lived here and said we didn't live here during the time period the police stated (we did).
I haven't heard anything since but I'm considering going down to the police station and seeing what it was about because I can't stop worrying about it despite knowing I have never done anything wrong.
.. but it was nine months ago now and I haven't heard anything since. Should I leave it and assume they had the wrong address or contact them and admit that I lied because I was confused? Would this show up on an advanced crb check? Could I be charged for obstructing police even though I didn't see any identification?
Thanks x0 -
I've heard a very similar story to this twice before on this board... it's very familiar.:hello:0

I have seen this exact thread/scenario word for word as written by you somewhere before.0 -
Me too - didn't we have this exact same post a few months ago? Literally word for word exact? And then a huge debate over what this person should do?
Odd. Very odd.' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
I posted it before but I'm still worried about it0

Yes.. I have already said I posted this before and I really need some advice.0

You need therapy... Go to your GP and explain your anxiety or go to the police and 'fess up.
You keep posting, people keep wasting their time answering... why will the answers be any different this time?
Go back and READ the previous threads - there was more than enough advice then.
Anyway, why the need to keep changing user names?:hello:0
