Just get them to deliver to your place of work, the amount they charge they should be able to do this.

Turns out they can't do that easily either. I can only answer calls or go out the building at work when i'm on a break and it doesn't allow enough time to organise the hire car.

They will be at my front door tomorrow at approx 7:30am i'm told to do it then so it's not ideal but better than nothing.
This also includes dropping off the driver back at the hire car company on my way to work

You may not like to accept that your car isn't worth as much as you hoped, but I'm afraid that's a fact. I've bought enough cars over the years to know this.

An example is the Mondeo that I bought a few years ago. It was the 2.5 V6 Ghia X model. And was exactly the same price as a basic 1600 model.

Was the Mondeo magazine featured with dozens of hours of your time and thousands poured into it with a portfolio and receipts to help substantiate this?
If not, then i (personally) don't think the two scenarios are comparable.
From what you have said your car looks like a boy racer car, and this can actually lower the value.

I guess that depends what you mean by "boy racer" but i'm used to that type of stigma from people outside the modifying community.

Just to point out i'm not a teenager ragging about a clapped out car. I'm not even in my 20's. I'm a ex mechanic who works on cars as a hobby who started to restore this car so that although it would seem unjustified to most people with the money that's been invested, i'd hoped to keep it for several more years.

I understand your frustration, being offered peanuts for a car you didn't plan to change anytime soon.

Not sure if it is possible or something you would want but can the car be repaired?

Here's what the Ombudsman says about modified vehicles.

"11. accessories and other unusual features

Policyholders often believe that account should be taken of money they have spent on the vehicle, accessories they have added, or other special features.

Usually we are not persuaded that these increase the value of the vehicle.

Money spent on maintenance is required to keep the vehicle in retail condition and is unlikely to increase its value. Failure to spend money on maintenance may justify a below-guide valuation.

Adding some accessories (such as satellite navigation or improved radio/CD equipment) will often increase the value of the vehicle – though not necessarily by as much as the amount spent.

Other accessories or features (such as special paint schemes, stripes or spoilers) may increase a vehicle’s value, or may decrease it in the eyes of many purchasers.

Exceptionally there may be rare cases where we are satisfied that some quality accessory or another unusual feature (for example, a celebrated history or famous former owner) might increase the value. But such vehicles are often specially-insured through an agreed-value policy."

I've just realised i'm going to have an unpleasant day tomorrow.

The car hire company have negotiated a way to drop the car off at my house tomorrow morning at approx 7:30am on the agreement i need to drive the driver on my way to work and drop him off at the hire company.
Not too much out my way (3 miles at most) so not the worst situation

They've informed me i need tomorrow
    My driving license
    Credit / debit card
    My insurance documents.

I've just remembered my insurance company emailed me them this year and i lost the emails when the PC got a virus and had to be formatted.
So i have no documents and can't get them emailed to me until later in the day when i'll be at work.
And even if i do, i don't have a printer so i need to either try and find somewhere locally who can print it off for me, or else ask my insurer to post them out to me and wait for them to arrive.

Did you delete the email which enclosed the insurance documents?

I used to use Outlook/Outlook Express for all my emails until I found that using Gmail would let me access my mail at work (and everywhere else), so I went over to that a few years ago. I have lost two hard drives since then, and a year's worth of photos with them, but I still have all my mail.

The clunkiness of web-based mail is a price worth paying, in my opinion.

Whilst I don't entirely agree with the OP's hopes, I think I can see a fundamental difference.

His 1.5TD will be considered 'good news', relatively speaking, whereas most people are wise enough to not want to run an ancient Mondeo that does 12mpg*

If the Mondeo was a TD Ghia X it would be more than the base 1.6.

    *perhaps an exaggeration

I'm with you TradePro, the market (buyers) dictates the price.
For example if two identical cars in terms of mileage/age/condition are up for sale at the same price but one is a poverty spec with windy windows and steelies, whereas the other one is top spec, leather interior/aircon/satnav all the toys, then who in their right mind wouldn't choose the better one?
It would make it more desirable and thus demand a higher price and the basic one would need to be cheaper to sell.

There is no way that you should have to drop the driver off. This isn't your responsibility.

Insurance companies aren't interested in magazine articles.

The mondeo had just about every optional extra on it. Many of which you used as a reason for your car to be worth more.

Most people with modified cars like to carry out the modifications themselves, and not buy one that is already modified.

Your car will be worth far more to you than it will to the insurance company. So you will have a struggle to get what you think it is worth out of the insurance company.
