I don't expect the full £1500, but i don't want £600 either if you know what i mean
Just got a voicemail from the other insurance company now, offering to deal with me directly.
They've informed me their client has admitted full liability for the accident.
Am i best dealing with them directly and informing my insurance and broker for logging purposes, or would i be better off letting them deal with it on my behalf?
I prefer the former so i'm i have a bit more control. If i chose the former and during the claim process didn't think i was getting what i deserved, can i then opt for my insurer to step in for me?
Deal with them direct. Don't accept there first offer for your car. they will haggle some.
But cant see you getting anywhere near £1500 (£1500 with buy you a decent spec 2003 plate).
I,d be surprised if you get £1000. But good luck and come back to update the thread.0 -
You can deal with them direct but if they don't play by your rules at any point you can tell them you no longer wish to deal with them and go to your own insurance company who will probably sell your data to claims management company who will rack them up a nice bill to pay.
You can also claim money for recently done servicing i think its up to 6 months, tyre change etc. you need reciepts though.
Also if your car can be repaired remember you can choose to repair it at your own preferred garage and you can still demand they supply you a courtesy car free while your car is in repair.0 -
Are you sure about that
Yeah I am pretty sure unless things have changed recently, in 2009 when my dad was at NAF accident and his car was written off he was asked if he had done any servicing recently etc he said yes and they asked to send that over and when we recieved payment it was paid for the car write off value + servicing his claim was handled by drive assist ex-claim management company0 -
I'm surprised as servicing your car and changing the tyres is regarded as a cost of running a car.
Insurance wise it has no or little effect on the value of a settlement0 -
Right, now it's starting to get messy.
Speaking with third party insurance. They've offered me a hire car until my write off cheque clears but based on the age of the car and mileage of the car they've offered £400.
I've declined since i could get most of that back from breaking it and scrapping it. 1.5td's for sale are rare enough, let alone in CDX trim. I've only seen one recently with no service history and that was advertised for £1050
She's advised the only other option is to send an engineer who will evaluate my car and then give them a report.
If they send the engineer then i'm not entitled to a hire car and i won't be free for another week
If they write it off now for £400 i can get a hire car until my cheque comes through
I pointed out that there's much less hassle for me to go through my own insurance if we're going to go down that route. I've got legal cover so i can get a hire car i'm told until it's full sorted.
So looks like now i should just let my own insurance deal with it.All your base are belong to us.0 -
remind then you are entitled to a temporary replacement car and if they won't provide one then there are any number of claims handling firms/credit hire firms that will.
I'd also say the temp car should be available for a week after the cheque clears to give you chance to source a replacement car0 -

When is your insurance due for renewal?
Just make a claim on your own insurance if its long way but if its not long way to renewal use a claims management company and let them deal with it. With third party insurers they will stab your back at every possible moment. Can you find similar cars of your spec on auto trader print it off and tell them you want them to have a look at it and comment on it?
remember they should provide you with a courtesy car or you could hire one at your own expense and claim it back using your legal cover also you have to keep the losses to minimum you can't just go hire a range rover sport or something but you can hire something like a 2012/2013 corsa make sure you get quote from atleast 2 hire companies and go for the cheapest option to show them that you have kept your losses to minimum
You can claim the cost of you going to the hire company using a taxi/bus keep receipts, your appointed lawyer should automatically put a miscellaneous expenses for around -£10 - £20 no reciepts needed for this this is for stationery, and postage costs. You can also claim all the money back for phone bill provided you have a phone bill.
In short print off some ads ask them to comment if they change offer to whatever you was thinking say ok, else say your lawyer will be in touch with them and they are not to contact you again and go through your ins company0 -
My insurance is due for renewal in 2014 and i've paid it all at once.
I'm going to let them deal with it on my behalf at this stage i believe. They will do more to fight my corner i assume than me trying to deal with the third party myself.
I'll speak to them about a replacement car and other things as well. I'm not injured but the car was essential to commuting. With the car it's just under one and a half hours a day. On public transport it's just under 3 hours. All your base are belong to us.0 -
You can advertise a car at any price.I've declined since i could get most of that back from breaking it and scrapping it. 1.5td's for sale are rare enough, let alone in CDX trim. I've only seen one recently with no service history and that was advertised for £10500
