    There's a GLS 1.5 diesel on Autotrader for £699.

What mods does yours have that add up to £1500?

1996 GLS is less desirable than a 1999 CDX
It came with a grey cloth interior, grey dashboard, grey plastics, carpets ect.

The later CDX came with a black interior, black dashboards, carpet, pearlescent paintwork.
In 1997 all Corsa's hada minor faceliftso

The modifications on the car have been added at a cost to me of approx £500
Full custom made stainless steel exhaust with a lifetime gaurantee
    Lowering springs and uprated dampers
Aftermarket front and rear lights and side repeaters.
    Aftermarket grlll

If i factor in repairs, servicing and restoration work (the latter part is the expensive part) then i have receipts that show approx £600 has been spent on the car in the 6 months alone.

I don't expect i'll receive the full £1500, but £400 is laughable. I would say between £900 - £1100 range seems reasonable to me since the value can be substantiated.

You need to be realistic about your recent bills.

You can only expect your car to be valued in line with its pre crash market value irrespective of the bills you have paid.

You need to substantiate the market value not how how much you have spent on it!

I substantiate it by taking in the factor of the market value of a replacement vehicle, then the money spent on such a vehicle to get it to the same level as mines.
I don't think that is at all unreasonable.

It is unreasonable to compare an average car, to a magazine featured car, with modifications and Thousands spent on it over the last 3 years as restoration work. I have a folder with receipts about 3" thick to substantiate it. This is why i chose a specialist insurance company that caters for my needs.

Like i said. I was offered £400 for the car. A replacement is approx £1000 if you're ever lucky enough to find a CDX TD.
I could spilt the car into bits and sell what i have and scrap the shell for the same £400 they are offering.

If you have a special car then you need agreed value insurance which it seems you didn't arrange with the specialist insurer or you wouldn't be having these issues.

It's often the case that if you break up a car for spares you get more for it than selling it as a runner.

Yep, but that doesn't apply if you are claiming off a third part...their liability is to put you back in the position you were in before the accident and not just give you whatever the book says an average version of your car is worth.

In this case, the op says he is claiming via his own "specialist" insurance

Wouldn't it be possible for Op to look for a car thats same as his current car and claim a similar amount to that and ask to keep the car he currently owns (buy back from third party insurer) or take out all the modifications before handing over to insurance company to scrap?

(if you buy back) If thats allowed i'd rip the car apart like there is no tomorrow and assuming the car isn't driveable take the wheel apart, the spare wheel, radio, etc basically everything sellable and stick it on ebay? gumtree? and finally scrap the last remaining pieces

I'm with a broker who sets me up with a company with all mods declared.
The reason i'd rather deal with the third party company is my insurance company have demonstrated previously in another claim that they would rather put themself first, than act in my best interests.

I've notified them for information purposes, but they have been told not to interfere at this stage.

The third party company are arranging a hire care and arranging for my car to be uplifted then put to a salvage yard. From there, pictures will be taken of the vehicle and sent to a vehicle engineer to assess how much it's worth.

A lot of the modified parts have been damaged in the accident. The rear lights and the exhaust are the only modified parts undamaged.

Adrian Flux or Chris Knott? I've been insured with both and one was a nightmare when I had a bump.
