You seemed to be very happy joining in the ridiculing of the OP.

I took the pee a little, but I think people are encouraged to complain in case where they should not.
However I have been on the other end of the wolves as well on more than one occasion. Though being out numbered did not mean I was wrong!!!!

Thanks to those that understand at least but you always get packs of wolves here whatever you post. You just have to filter out the clag.

Surely you meant to state that you always get people with differing opinions, and if you feel you have to filter these out leaving only those that agree with you, why bother posting in the first place?

The concept of fresh will vary from person to person. Some may only be happy with milk until the day after it comes out of the cow. Others may be happy to use it whilst it's ok, regardless of the use by date.

The use-by and sell by dates are there as a guide, and there's no reason the shops should reduce them other than to clear them.
If it's something that will last a few days, I'd always check. If it's something I'm eating on that day, I don't check.

I think the reason people have 'ridiculed' the OP is that s/he has wanted a partial refund or compensation for something they don't think is legal, and most people are finding that a bit ridiculous!

THe Op did not have enough time to check the use by date.

However they enough time to write a email to M&S head office and post a email on here.

So not enough time to do a proper shop. But enough time to moan about not doing the job properly in the first place.

Has OP said they didn't have time to check the use by date?
In any case, maybe they needed to catch a bus. It's not hard to grasp that people may be rushed at one point in the day and have plenty time later on.

A few years back M&S used to take all their short dated products off the shelf and donate them to charity, homeless hostels and the like. That way customers wouldn't be caught out like this.

Because people such as yourself who ridicule and belittle others for not reading one thing typically take every opportunity to ridicule them for anything else they may not have noticed

And you would never do something like that would you Azari?
You are a total hypocryte who only seems to post to get a reaction from others.

What some people here do not seem to have the wit or intelligence to comprehend is that if you habitually buy something from a certain supplier and it is always fresh

Implying someone has a mental condition.
It may be that you have some form of OCD or other paranoid condition that causes you to obsessively check sell by dates

To be accurate there are legalities around use-by dates. It's against the law to sell food that has passed its use-by date, regardless of whether it's full price or reduced. All other terms, e.g. best before, are guidelines.

They're complying with the law by including a use-by date clearly labelled on the packaging and it's up to the consumer to check whether the date is a week hence, three days hence or that same day. I hardly think having food on the shelves that has every legal right to be there means that 'consumers [will be] caught out'.

You've got to look at what you're buying. What next? I bought this clearly labelled 8GB ipod thinking it was the 16GB version. Stop catching me out! I bought this book of poems by WH Auden but I assumed it was a Ted Hughes collection! You're just pulling the wool over my eyes! I bought this bottle of milk that expires today but thought it would see me into the middle of next week! What about my consumer rights! etc. etc.

Sorry, meant that from the consumer's point of view. You can use things past the date if you want :)
