phoebe1989seb wrote: »Morning everyone
Thank you all so much for your lovely warm welcome - I'm already feeling right at home here as you're all so very friendly! It's good to see familiar faces (Better Days and Davesnave) from the Homebuying forum :T Also, that there's another Wilts resident (LIR) too
Will definitely post up some piccies of our project later on - it was un-mortgageable and pretty much uninhabitable when we bought it in 2011, but that didn't stop us moving straight in and we've been living amongst the rubble ever since, lol :rotfl:
It's a lovely sunny day here - I'm on my own today, hoping to have a bit of peace and quiet as we've had the electrician in doing first fix on our delightful 1980s extension most of the week - well, not totally alone as there's our two house cats (Persians Phoebe - where my user name comes from- and Nellie) plus our old boy Archie (who is 13 and likes to take it easy these days) and things could never be peaceful whilst Rossetti the mad Labradoodle is about :rotfl:
DH has gone down to Hampshire to visit my parents - sadly they both have Dementia and are in a (blooming expensive!) nursing home - and his sister (to see her new chicks, so no doubt he'll come home and persuade me to get some, although I'm leaning more towards ducks at the mo)........any advice on the pros and cons of ducks vs chickens would be great please guys & girls!
I've been left at home as I have a mission - to bid on and hopefully win a piece of furniture for our dining room, which is probably crazy a) 'cos said piece of furniture is located at the other end of the country and b) 'cos at the mo our dining room resembles Miss Haversham's place, lol - but worse as it's in serious need of rebuildingSo I'm going to sit back (not too many biskwits though as I'm on the Fast Diet and meant to be cutting back!), catch up on some reading and keep one eye on eBay......mustn't forget to bid or there'll be hell to pay!
Have a great day all x
PS Better Days - Hope you have better luck with this house!
The main difference is chickens poop & ducks squirt ....... everywhere :rotfl:
Good luck with the bid.0 -

Phoebe, if you dont get it try your local auction houses (if you dont do that already!). Furniture is often available very cheaply, particularly brown furniture. Saw an iron bedspread not sell for a tenner, good desks are about £100, wardrobes can be very cheap, as can display cabinets. Anyone into upcycling could have a whale of a time0 -

I was going to say more or less the same thing:D
Ducks have brilliant charectars, BUT they are messy, well very messy as the 'squit' everywhere,
personally if there was a toss up between the two, I would go for chickens, as they lay more eggs on average, Plus they don't need a pond, or deep container to totally submerge their heads etc..Work to live= not live to work0 -

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: was it a double?????
I am sort of looking for an old Victorian bed, not in a rush at mo, but at that price I would have stored it in work:D
Trying to keep an eye out for period pieces for the ranch.Work to live= not live to work0 -

Yes it was CTC. If you let me know what you want I'll keep a look out and send you photos of stuff I see at preview. Only problem is that you'd have to pick it up from Cardiff on the Thurs or Fri following the Wed auction as we've only a small car(they charge storage fees if not picked up within 48 hours). Quite often they have several pieces in a lot as well, have seen some real bargains for tables/chairs.

thanks rhiwie, is it every Wednesday???
Apart from the bed, I don't know what I want until I see it:cool::D:rotfl:
I want a proper old rocking chair, which I didn't bid enough on one at ffairfach a few months ago, as hubby being a tightfisted tightwad, that it was WAY over priced... BUT I didn't think so, considering it was a nice small-ish sized one, and proper old and dark 'lived in' wood etc.
I could just imagine it, on the flagstone floor infront of the Victorian cast iron stove, with a rag rug infront of itWork to live= not live to work0 -

No, general sales are once a month. To give you a very rough feel chiffoniers are about £80-120, hall stands maybe likewise. Pine furniture tends to be dearer as it is more commercial, dark furniture cheaper unless its a quality antique. Some good lighting bargains from time to time but you never know until the day what prices things will fetch.
Alf, here's another one I'm about to list. Some lovely beadwork.0 -
Nice bit of wampum there, rhiwfield!
With the showers merging into longer spells of rain, I've been confined to barracks, or the polytunnel anyway. Trouble is, when the sun comes out, the steamy atmosphere is almost unbearable, even with the new shading up. (By 'new' I mean shading used as safety netting blagged from builders at a well known Victorian station when it was renovated.;) )
We have solved the problem of blackbird raids on our tomatoes, by installing netting over both doorways, though that's at the expense of ventilation.:(
Last year, the weather meant I couldn't grow French beans, but in the poly they've done so well, they've fallen over, so a re-think there perhaps another year. The cucumbers are fine, and the oca, which also did poorly outside, is romping away.
The jury is still out on the yacon. They're becoming huge. I expected them to go to 4', but it looks like they may do much more and block the pathway if not staked soon. We have run out of stakes....I hope what's under the ground matches!
Looks as if we will be eating our first peppers in a few days...:)
Another vote for chickens, not that we've had ducks. Here are the Marans chicks. Two girls and a boy, we think!0 -
CTC I have a rocking chair in the barn.
It was my dads when I was wee. I cannot bear to throw it out because of find memories, but then I also remember getting my toes crushed more than once!
They take up a surprising amount of room too. I'm torn what to do with mine. While I'd like to put in a guest room one day I'm scared some one would damage their toes irreparably.0 -
