I wonder how things are in the maternity suite......:)
Here's a chicken story:
A friend, who works for a small company about 5 miles from here, has a workshop on the premises where he spends quite a bit of time. Through the hedge is a large field where the farmer keeps free range hens for eggs.
For a year or so now, every day, a particular hen has visited my friend's workshop, where she's nested. He usually shares a small portion of his lunch with her, and on most days, he gets an egg in return! :rotfl:
The above would be cute enough to relate, but there's more....
The farmer got to hear about this hen, but rather than act disgruntled at feeding her and receiving nothing, he went to see my friend with a serious concern: it was time for him to cull the whole flock!
Friend said, "No problem," and took the hen home, where she's currently living with the four who had a holiday here recently. As soon as the farmer re-stocks, she'll go back, hopefully to continue life as before.
There you are; a farmer who's as soft as the rest of us! :rotfl:0 -
Oh that is soooo cool :A dave0

what a lovely story Davesnave...
I think it must be bloody wind with big pig lol... talk about making a meal of it!!! Diva tantrams etc..
In fairness, it was the same with the last pig, each new sign we keep thinking this it is, not long now, but what is foxing us this time, she did start producing some milk on Monday, which is the sign they are going to drop with x amount of hours...
We supposed to have been going to the craft event today in Exeter... we cancelled that at the beginning of August.. and they are being stroppy cows about it, BUT they is no way in a gazillian years could we have gone..
Well it rained most of the night, and still raining now, but I can see blue clouds so hopefully it will stop soon..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Proper autumn morning here, no denying it.0

Yes we have the rain too, but it should pass soon.
It's helping....a little. My task today is taking out 1/3 of the whole border in the septic tank area, so that the digger can get in there, whenever it returns. Probably about 100 plants, but none of them shrubs, fortunately. They can go into a temporary home, and then return in the winter.
In the long run it will be better, because when this pipe is re-laid, it will be in solid plastic for the first 20m, giving us the ability to grow what we like there, within reason.
Always an up-side!:)
Edit: New steel beam arrives tomorrow or Friday and will be lifted into place on Monday, but the scaffolders can't do next Tuesday now.....Not their fault as we missed our booking, but they will try to get here asap after that. They are good guys.0 -
forgot to say yesterday. went to an indoor market in the city yesterday, and spoke to one of the fruit and veg guys... really nice had plenty of time to talk.. they buy of growers, even if it is just a one off batch of something, as long as the quality is good, and ITS IS locally grown.. he did tell me early beetroot sells well, and even though he doesn't sell a lot of them ( it would be a huge amount for me lol) he would buy my 'mingy too's' they sell cut flowers too, so I think they would buy bunches of them too. ok prices are REALLY low, but he would only be making pennies on the veg/flowers too..
Yes its always best to sell direct if you can, but at least I know there are options out there...
Davesanve what are the name of those mingy too's again?? when is the earliest you sow yours??
he also said if I do beetroot to make sure I get the bold resistant one..
Flip, really wish I hadn't fallen back on doing the old swagbucks lol, as I would have had a good amount of amazon voucher codes by now to go towards a polytunnel..
Think I will have to get listing on the bay again..lolWork to live= not live to work0 -
The mingy too's are called 'Bijou' which might be a joke, 'cos they're huge.
Bolt resistant beetroot, I'm not sure about, but they bolt most when they get dry.
We have been making steady sales at the roadside here and it's fine for now, but I'm half expecting trouble from a certain quarter, as it's displayed on council-owned land that I look after. I'm sure the council themselves would choose not to notice, if they're allowed to.....;)
If we do get trouble, we have a wall unsuitable for display purposes at present, sandwiched between the council verge and the private road. If we were forced into it, we'd demolish the wall and rebuild as a display space. That would go down like a pork roast at a bar-mitzvah, but we have proved to ourselves that roadside works.
But, hopefully, it won't come to that.:D

thanks Davesnave.. it has now been written down, and a label also put into the huge pot of seeds...
Even though I have talked about things over the last 2 plus years of having this place.. the things I want to do now feels right to start having a go, especially I am making the time to be here during the day...Work to live= not live to work0 -
