  • Hi all, hugs to Alfie's mum and Choille and DH. I will try to get some peep pics posted this weekend (if they keep still long enough!) but I'm in the middle of building a new chicken house and it must be done by tomorrow night including the run. All's well here though :j

Chin up everyone. Virtual cupcakes and love to all x

Gosh, I don't know. Cannot remember , did I say what I was thinking of it for?

DH and I are really upset about your mother, DH was almost traumatised by it tbh, he kept saying, but she was just there, ( pointing to the kitchen chair) drinking tea, and we were talking about fireplaces.

She's so fit and able that it seems terrible she could have such an accident.

Good to hear Mum is on the mend and wanting to 'escape,' alfie. Usually a good sign. Those wrist alarms are a godsend for those with all their marbles too. ;)

I'm in solitary confinement today, having knackered my back trying to repair that cement mixer in the week (just prolonged bending, no lifting etc:() and then doing wheelbarrow stuff yesterday. :o Everyone else has gone out, but if I'm a good boy, they'll phone me later and say where I can join them for fish & chips.

I don't mind. The activities on offer weren't the sort of thing that would have me rushing out the door. Once the anti-inflammatories kick in, I'll be fine again. :)

We're doing a test of the heating before cold weather sets in to day.

Its such joy to say that.

I turned it on abut five minutes ago and already radiators have some life creeping into them. :)

The heating thing has crept up on me, but I will get some renewable energy companies in next week and re-appraise things after that.

The first quote we had regarding pellet/oil systems was misleading, as I think the guy must've assumed we'd be using some existing pipework, even though we explained things to him. His quote for pellets was way short of the guy who quoted for an oil/thermal system this week, and his oil only system was dirt-cheap.

With a half-way house system (oil/thermal) costing so much, I think we need to examine the cost of going the whole hog, be it biomass, ASHP or a mix of technologies. It will cost more still, but the RHI may make it attractive....it's the payback period which matters. :)

Are your rads very much larger than they'd have been with a conventional system?

We are using the original rads Dave's nave. :)

We plan to swap for some underfloor. We had some new ones in the cheese room and study, but actually, run them on low, because the insulation in that end is good and last year was mild. Its barely had a test yet in harsh weather. But no, no over sized rads. These are old rads mainly. We don't have rads in the old bathroom, or the room under our bedroom.

Underfloor isn't an option here, except in one place, so we'll have to use rads. I know Daikin have a special higher temperature system, but that must come at some extra cost, or everyone would be using it!

Just been reading about the premature failure of many Titan oil tanks on other threads. This whole business is a nightmare!
