Selecting a window/door company will be a doddle. Those we've had here to quote have been around 25-30 years and really know their stuff. No pressure and each item quoted separately, so we can order over a period and choose who fits. We'll get them to fit the doors and our builder will do the windows.

Not so sure when it comes to heating/hot water. The company who've quoted for a conventional system are very conservative, as we'd expect, but it seems they just want to stick a couple of panels onto what they normally do and say, "There y'are, m'dears, eco!"

I know oil boiler + thermal panels is just a halfway house, but as the conventional quote was quite pricey, I'm going to give a couple more of the local renewable companies a chance. With the RHI a known quantity now, it makes sense to explore all options.

Quick hugs and best wishes to alfie and her mum.

Rummer, does rumlet twig that you are reacting and think this is a great game? Any chance of teaching him a different and more acceptable note - reflect back with a singing voice and then adjust it is he matches your voice? Hope the sicklies get better quickly.

choille, hope that track is coming on and wish you had more help with the house. Is it watertight?

Dave - lol. What have you been doing to those hens?

CTC - you made me laugh re the house; I recall you spotting the rear side and understanding what could be when other just saw the damaged render.

Everyone else - hugs and best wishes. Bit manic here and I need to go.

RAS - The track is coming on, but not finished as yet. The house needs some cladding put on, but it's been time to do it & health stuff.

Tomorrow we have a lot of sheep stuff & then we should be back on the other stuff - but OH has loads of paying stuff to do - shouldn't grumble, but I just feel Winter breathing down my neck again & not up for being in the van another one - I really can't bear the thought.
  • morning all,

Ras...what the old saying.. 'He who Dares, wins' lol... yep I was was preying that the stonework would be ok, under all that render.. this house was def not for the faint hearted, or for someone who could throw loads of money at it, which then it would prob look nothing like it should...and would end up looking like a modern house..

Rummer... I personally like the old style ones, like the 1940's all in one wrap around style... like Hilda Ogdens in corrie.. and really do wash like rags, and can be also used as a 'house overall' for doing cleaning, ironing etc...

I don't like the plastic ones, even though you can wipe them down etc, I don't find them comfortable to wear etc..

I do think an Apron is a personal thing... and each to their own..

I use an over sized worn out man's cotton shirt, but I just usually get mucky clothes as I'm a dirty gerty..........

Good day here again - hope it stays dry for sheep stuff.

I am still not doing my hol changeover as I don't feel up to it. If I don't work I don't get paid. First time I've never done it & last week.

Choille, really hope you feel better soon....

Over on the SHTF thread on the OS board.. I have been talking about the increase thread of terror attacks etc.. which the government has said today there threat alert has now gone to severe...

Which does scare me, since the bombings in London I don't go into the city, as much as I used to etc.

but I was thinking that they could also contaminate our food, like a stealth warfare..

so I really do want to try and grow/produce more food..

I know I might sound as though I am OTT on this, but these terrorists really do put the heebeejeebees up me...

We were in London the day before 7/7 and I've never returned, not because of that, but because I really don't like crowded, busy places. :(

When the IRA were doing their bombings, they took out some of a corridor of shops in Bath, but none of my friends reacted to that. We still went to the theatre and the cinema etc. I think when stuff like that goes on in your patch, you almost feel it's your duty to ignore it: "Keep Calm and Carry On," and all that. :)

What a damp squib today turned out to be! At least we got a foundation in for our roof/porch, all the granite chippings laid around BiL's caravan and I did a fair bit of raking over of soil we dumped two weekends ago, up at the Dog End, but it was reet miserable, without really raining properly.
