It's a shame to lose a tree, but sometimes it's their time.

Weather here is horrible with the wind gusting up now. I doubt I'll get to the docs tomorrow as the road sounds as if it's blocked in loads of places.

Severe weather warning for your way, choille.

    Sounds like it has arrived.

At least the rains stopped, and our bridge is still here intact. It was just under water, but we've lost a bit of wall on the other side of the burn.

The tracks incredibly bad. But seems there''s a couple of landslides further down towards a waterfall & then nearer Ullapool where they took the trees out & stacked them near the road - that was an accident waiting to happen.

Roads and rail lines blocked by floods and 200 people evacuated from their homes in Elgin as more than 40 flood warnings issued

In comparison, in Glasgow it's certainly been windy but no damage done beyond some stems from the verbena snapped off...

I note a number of roads I know in the north-east are big holes right now.

Quite glad the last of the oldies moved out so years ago as I suspect their bungalow is a bit wet now. Ouch.

  • Bloomin heck Choille, biblical indeed, Sounds like here last winter only worse! I feel so pathetic sometimes when I compare the things that I let get me down to the things you have to deal with :( there is no comparison and I need a reality check sometimes.

Just seen on the news the desperate situation in Iraq... I remember at Lyneham there was a wall of pictures of the Hercs and the personnel with them in all sorts of humanitarian operations over the decades, famines and wars. it saddens me that we are not more involved now, although in fairness we have sent some aid in via air drops. The Herc fleet is so diminished I guess that's as much as they can do, but it's such a shame cos they do it so well.

DH is seeing first hand the drawdown in Afghanistan but I/we can't help thinking they're leaving too soon...looks like the Americans will stay, hopefully maintain a strong presence, and keep the lid on it all.

Funny old thing job prospects where he is now look more certain and def more appealing than the job he saw going in Baghdad

If you keep the car up on the road, are you able to get over to the east or into Ullapool?

Heck if they have lost the Ullapool Road, it is a long trek round!

Yes, we can't get the car down here. I've taken some photos but don't know how to put them here.

There seems to be a heck of a damage approaching Ullapool where the road is away. There was a forest that was harvested on a slope & it's there that the hill side has slipped. Down from us a couple of miles there's been a slide at a waterfall & the roads impassable there - so we are a bit stuck.
Clients came up from Essex & are staying in Ullapool - and should leave tomorrow.....But I think they will have a longer stay!

Just had to get two naughty lambs back in the field - Houdinis indeed.

I can't be bothered listing on the bay but I must.

oh dear choille.... never mind sending aid abroad, maybe the needs are closer to home. do they have a highland system to help out supplies wise in times like this ? snow is bad enough but negotiable usually BUT no roads is a different kettle of fish !!... im sure we all wish you well, keep safe ,thats the important thing . i spent the day in the shop today, had great fun with another lady while owner was out doing various errands. met/got talking to 2 elderly couples and have been out this evening buying some bits from them [vintage clothing] real 50s 60s couture stuff .;):D i soooooo love fabrics and the styles are sooooo fab ! also got some antique embroideries.:D kitties are opening thier eyes :j they really are gorgeous ! although i am biased :) weather has been very blustery, [almost gales] at times today. and its colder...:(

Here's hoping they get the roads open for you tomorrow, choille.

I suppose trees must be harvested some time, but maybe events like that will encourage the landowners to stagger the timing.

It was the same at our favourite beach, back in the 1990s: the Woodland Trust decided in their wisdom to do some felling, and that winter the whole cliff side moved and buried the path. :(

Too cloudy tonight, but last night the big moon lit things up just enough to get a photo without flash: :)
