Nope. We stayed in bed most of the day just to miss it. Never mind.

We have loads of plums on the trees down my lake cake but the brambles have shot up , and across, and back and forward, Those plums are unlikely to reach my kitchen I think.

We are struggling with brambles :( Our neighbour like them in the their gardens the bottom of ours is filled with them and they are a nightmare to pull out, mean things.

    Anybody seen Hurricane Bertha?

Just been 'dreich' in Glasgow, low grey cloud and on/off rain all day, plus it feels much cooler. The barometer certainly plunged over the last 48 hours.

Crikey, Bulldog Bash time again! Where do these years go? Sounds like it was a good'un CTC.

Normal brambles are something I don't have much time for here, but I'm using them to hide hawthorns and other hedging from Mr Dog. Once those are established.......:p;)

In the copse area we've put in some thornless blackberries, which we're hoping to train along the fence and multiply-up. Whether the sheep co-operate with this plan, remains to be seen! If not, I have some mean polypropylene netting to keep their noses out of that bit.:D

BERTHA berthed ere....:o and on the saturday eve the heavens doth open and send forth buckets of the wet stuff and if "im up there" farts then he must have had a vindaloo and sent his excess gale force in our direction. the trees did bend, the chairs scattered, and anything not nailed down endeth thier journey in the hedge... then the sun came forth on the sunday morn, to lull you into a false feeling of "thats over" cos then the heavens sent forth another tribute to BERTHA when the folk in this area were least expecting it and not a coat or umbrella in sight. running for cover becometh the sport of the day....... :D

It's very local. DD2, just down the road from you in B&P says they haven't had much either. :)

However, for the first time today I can't see Dartmoor, so I think we should go settle the hens for the night, double-quick!

Big moon rising at the end of the field.....well, at the end of the field and about another 360 000 miles! :rotfl:

 I have just started to take the wall paper off the hall

It is crazy thick with paint and looks as if it will need to be chipped off :( Then we have the joy of getting the artexed ceiling plastered. The whole thing is a scarily massive undertaking for us which will likely be ridiculously expensive too!

Hubby has decided that he wants the wood on the stairs exposed and just to have a runner up them. This sounds great in theory however the ground floor of our house in concrete so we would need a different flooring and the wood was not really put there to be seen.
Anyway it will make a massive difference to our home to have the hall done.

Dos anyone else feel that their house is a money pit? As soon as one room is done the next needs done and it is only a two up two down! I would love to have it all just done for a couple of years :rotfl:

    OMG yes!!! :rotfl:

We moved here almost 5 years ago to the day...it is a lot better than it was, but it's still far from done!

My DH is in the best paid job he's ever had and we are still skint, with no sign of any drop in expenditure on this place for a while yet! The farm side has taken a lot of money, a scary lot! If we'd known how much we may not have made certain decisions, like buying a small holding. however it is beginning to repay us so the pain will be worth it.

But the house has had very little done really, except some essential structural stuff, re-rendering, new boiler and a few pots of paint chucked around...hmmmm, now I know where the money's gone!

We do have a smart new kitchen we bought in a sale, but it's sitting in a stable waiting to be fitted :rotfl: we tried changing the doors a couple of years ago for a quick fix, but the carcasses are falling apart now :rotfl: it will be done in the winter, once the farm stuff is totally done and dusted, it always takes priority over the house.

Except for today - We had Bertha delivering odd heavy showers and thunder and lightning so I stayed indoors and I was attacking our third bedroom for the first time ever. It's tiny, and has not had a bed in it the whole time we've lived here, mainly because it was stuffed full of my crafty things :o

I've pulled up the last bit of ratty old carpet and cleaned the walls etc ready for a re paint, it's going to be my office, properly organised and everything! I'm agonising over colours, waiting for a little tester board I painted to dry, but I'll have to get on with it tomorrow.

I was thinking to myself, as I was looking at the yellowing gloss, which always looks dirty, and bodged skirting (from when they nicked half that room to make the bathroom next door big enough for a bath!) how no-one has loved this house in a very long time.

It still has nearly all it's original 30's features, stained glass, picture rails, architraves, doors and a lovely staircase, so in that respect we are very lucky they've not been destroyed or messed with too much.

But it/I felt distinctly sad today, imagining the people before us doing their half ar$€d DIY, no care or thought put in... it certainly looked ok on the surface when we bought the place, but underneath  a lot of it has been positively dangerous, but Karma will catch up with them.

Still on the spiritual note, I've been reading about feng shui for a bit of inspiration, nothing too prescriptive, but in terms of achieving balance and all that, yin and yang, it's quite a revelation to this Gemini who struggles with these things!

Rummer - you get really realistic looking wood effect laminate in B&Q that isn't too expensive.

We've poured all our money in, but still aren't in a house. Have to agree with Ferret Keeper about the croft/small holding stuff eating money, but unlike them we are not getting any back from it. Too many lambs that no one wants.

Brambles are easier to prise out when it's been wet- I still have acres of them.

Start to feel not great. Have had a sore back & side. Thought it was when I fell in the burn, but now have a rash, so I think I have shingles - again.

CTC - sounds like a brilliant time was had by all. They have a big do in Aviemore that we've come across a couple of times. I think it's a Harley meet up.

Absoloutely throwing down wet stuff...since 3pm, but it's getting even heavier.

Trying to list on the bay as it's a FLW, but feel a bit jiggered now & not great - off to my pit.

Snap! We've been here exactly 5 years on 19th of this month. :)

I'm not sure where that last 5 years have gone, but if we'd known it was going to be > 5 years we'd not have bought it!

In many respects it was a daft place for us to buy, and a huge compromise on my part, but probably a wise one. My in-laws had issues with Wales.....:wall:

I won't pretend I loved it, because I didn't, but the advantages have shone through over the years.
