....but only for a moment. :)

Wedding yurts look fantastic. So glad the Big Day went off rain-free after all that preparation. :A

Conjuntivitis isn't something I have any knowledge of, so I'll just say hope both it and Rumm-moggies' fleas are history by the end of the week. :)

Here we are baling today. Pete seems to be fine. He's just doing all his hay-making together and he didn't like the forecasts a couple of weeks ago.

Choille, I think I mentioned DD1's Gumtree habit a few pages back, but if I didn't, they had 3 fireplaces at the new house and not one of 'em fitted!:rotfl: We brought one back with us, intending to use it in our living room, but now the stove people say it's not really suitable........:(

I'm saying nothing about my 5 lawnmowers! :o

    I love it!

We also use Advocate, mainly because it's good for mites and certain worms too, heartworm in the dogs leaps to mind, and the small cat version is safe on ferrets. I just checked the leaflet and it doesn't say rabbits but the vet might say it's ok. The only thing you'll need with it is some sort of tape worm treatment, I use droncit spot on for the cats and tablets for the dogs.

We had an awful flea problem last year and I ripped out all the carpets, it certainly has helped but still got to keep an eye on bedding and gaps in floorboards etc.

There's a more powerful version of front line that is meant to be better at dealing with fleas in the environment (apparently only a small percentage of fleas are on the animal:eek:)

It's called Frontline Combo and like the Advocate is also only available from the vet or with prescription online. If I had another outbreak I'd probably use that for one or two treatments then swap back to break the cycle. It's meant to last 8 weeks too.

I buy in bulk so I get a script from the vet then buy online but my vet sells them individually.

Choille how do you manage so well being that far from the things we take for granted? My dad lives right near John O'Groats, is that anywhere your way? My geography of the highlands is poor, I've not been to see dad since he moved there and he's never been away, it's a long way to anywhere! I don't blame you grabbing the vet while they were there, there would have been nothing worse than not seeing them and the poor sheep needing it a few days later:(

Fwiw I just checked and our horse vet is 34 miles away. Difference is good roads, choice and facility when things need to move forward. From things in the field.

It a heck of a lot better than when I used to go up there first.

I remember following as crap coloured camper van across country to Gairloch on the single track road with passing places. The driver was doing about 20mph and did not understand the role of passing places.

They headed into Gairloch (PHEW)and we went to Inverewe Gardens for a break. We were just coming out of Inverewe as two vehicles approached, so we waited. The second one was the crap coloured camper van..........all the way to the Ullapool Road. Ex was not the most patient person and the air was blue.

Of course even with twin track you get the odd sheep or flock kipping on the main road.

Rummer, we used Program Flea Treatment for our cats (when we had them). It stops the breeding cycle, is administered in food. I'm somewhat chemically sensitive, so we don't use insecticides at all. You should be very careful of using insecticides around Rumlet too. Despite what the manufacturers say they are designed to kill, and they can make humans pretty ill too. And don't talk to me about the Gov Pesticide Directorate or whatever they're called!

I am anxious about using the spray around the house however we really need to do something to clear them as just treating the cats is not working :(

We are just ensuring that the space is well ventilated and we have kept him out of the treated rooms all day. Doing half the house today and the other half tomorrow as well as treating the beasts.

Fluff cat is still damp and not speaking to me after his bath :(

Rummer - my sympathies re the fleas. I got invested several years back when I lived on a farm & it was very hot & loads of feral cats about. I got a special spray from the vets & had to do the carpets & everything. It's quite a problem because of the eggs & the cycle of that as mentioned.

The winds picked up & is quite rainy now, but cooler - thankfully.

FK - lack of population I suppose mean that things like vets are just in the more populace areas - on the East, but they do travel over here on a day a week & hold a surgery down the Gairloch, which in the past I took old now departed cat to.

I did go a crofting conference & the after dinner speaker was a large animal vet - who was hilarious, but it's harder to get vets who do large animal work now, so we are lucky with the service we get really. I've had vets post stuff out - which is brilliant.

I'm in Wester Ross, but the roads are slightly better now, but more coked up with tourists in hyper vans & coaches & strings of bikers 'doing the John O' Groats run.

Well, best make the jam before the berries go mouldy...............
