I should have shut up about the cat.
Yesterday, she was very shaky on her pins, but otherwise OK, so I think she's had another small stroke.
She may well recover. Last time this happened, it took a little while for her to re-learn movement and balance. It's a pity though, as she was even trotting a bit last week.
....And this was a cat that used to be so fat and lazy it couldn't trot when it was half its present age! :rotfl:0 -
Dave,
You're obviously doing a lot of hard physical work on that place of yours, but you must have made a lot of headway since moving there. Will it be much longer before you are "on top of it" and then it's a question of "keeping the wheels rolling" iyswim?
Guess that's one obvious question here.
And one obvious comment....the same one I would make if anyone dared to say "You must expect ill health now you are a pensioner". I doubt anyone except my parents would dare in my case, even if I were up in my 80s.
My parents have a great tendency to say that to me, and my instant response is "That's how it is for YOU. It is not how it will be for me". But then I am much healthier than anyone else in my family.
Look at those remoter races on the planet that are busily up to all sorts in their 90s after all and many of them not seeming to have a thing wrong with them. Ill health and old age aren't inevitable bedfellows.
"Do not go gentle into that good night...". Well, I expect you know that poem.
What's the name of that self-sufficiency couple? The leaders of the clan so to say.....good role models.
EDIT: Helen and Scott Nearing = them's the ones I'm thinking of..0 -
After being quite blas! about my health when younger I am now acutely aware of the impact poor health can have on my life so I have taken steps to make sure that any future issues are not self inflicted.
This has meant changes in diet an increase in exercise [STRIKE]which I dislike[/STRIKE] and taking steps to ensure I am as relaxed and happy as can be. I appreciate that ill health can spring from no where however there is no point in me giving it a helping hand
Yesterday my DD decided that gardening was more appealing than room cleaning and we had a lovely time digging and weedingI was grilled intently about the digestive processes of worms and asked about various insect life and I really loved sharing that time with her. Rumlet was as always charmed by the outdoors and sat quite happily watching us work and chuckling to himself on occasion :rotfl:
Dull and damp outside today so I think I will maybe do a bit more tidying in the greenhouse and get the indoor seedlings tamed a bit.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

Yes, keeping the wheels rolling is easier with time, especially as a few years' experience enables better prediction. We could be 'on top' of the land in another two seasons, I'm sure.
Notice I said, "we." I might be pretty tough, but I'm only half of this little enterprise and my DW is not so robust.
Also, I have interests beyond gardening and no personal passion for keeping animals, so the 'fit' between me and this holding is just OK.
So, if I find myself strimming today, I might just be thinking what else I could be doing......:rotfl:0 -
This morning I was half-listening to a "Thought for the Day" broadcast on the local radio. The vicar-man described a walk where he found himself somewhere different from the location he'd set out to reach. He wasn't lost or in any danger, but he needed to sit down and work out how to reach his intended destination
I am not a religious person, BUT, there are certain people of the faith.. that I can listen to for hours, and make total sense of it, and it does mean something to me in my life...
the main man in the 'God Squad' ( Christian biker club) makes fanatastic speaches, especially in the funerals of bikers..
what you heard on the radio this morning from the 'vicar-man' those words are now whirling through my mind... and making me think properly again this morning... so THANK YOU for posting that...
Choille... maybe the change in hormone balance is exaggerating my normal moods???? I honestly cant go on like this anymore...with it all coming to a head over the last few weeks.. don't they put you on HRT? Which is made out of horse wee???
We supposed to be doing an event this weekend... but for several reasons we are not going to do it... all paid for, so will email them to say the van is broken or something...
will prob take time out and go to the monthly farm auction that we haven't been to since before Christmas...
LIR....have you heard from Alfie?? hubby sent her the pic of the boglets, and I don't think she has replied...Work to live= not live to work0 -

No I haven't.
I want to call her but my ears and face aren't good so I am a bit wary of the phone ATM.. I have trouble texting but will ask DH to text her for me later or tomorrow.

I'm so sorry for all of our day-dreamers who are having tough times, I just want to give you all a virtual hug & hope that things will work out for you all
It's so true that you never know what's lurking around the next corner... good or bad.
Our daydream is still some way off, red tape needs to be waded through, jobs need to be found. DH & I know where we want to be, but who knows where we will end up'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

I loved that about the 'vicar-man' too
I think HRT is made synthetically now, although you're right, I think it did used to be made from pregnant mare's wee _pale_
I know there used to be a 'menopause' thread on the Health & Beauty board, CTC, might be worth a look?? Personally I'd be tempted to try one of the Health shop remedies (Black Cohosh or something like that??) before I tried HRT.'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
thanks PP..
will go over and try and find that thread..
Davesnave I think you give us a daily update on what the 'vicar-man' said that day, lol..
By the way your peas are coming up lovely... I am now thinking about putting them out, but know in my luck we will have late ground frost lol...
I am not to sure to get some old tyres and do wigwam style supports in them for the peas, and put some pig poo and the bottom before putting a mix of compost and soil in there?Work to live= not live to work0
