choille, it must be heartbreaking to watch your OH in so much pain... hopefully now that they know what it is, something can be done...
well the quailets are doing well, so flipping funny the way they run around.. choille def not going outdoors... eventually they will be up the ranch, will be building long cages, a bit like rabbit hutches ..
didn't realise the adults can be quite nasty.. today one set I have ( 1 males to 4 females) started picking on one of the females... badly damaging her eye, so he is now in solitary confinement.. and fingers crossed, the picked on hen makes it through...
here is a pic of just a few of the quailets... they are a little smaller than my thumb lol

Couldn't sleep Dave? Suffering from Outlaw stress related insomnia?
You seem to be our 'go to' guy when it comes to weeds on the Greenfingered board;);)
The journey to diagnosis when suffering ill health can be stressful and frustrating. It took me 4 years to get a diagnosis of ME, and it was such a relief that I could put a name to what was actually wrong. At least with diagnosis (assuming it is the correct one) you have a starting point.
Love the quailets piccy CTC. So cute. I hand reared a baby pheasant a few years ago, but the first time I left it in Mr BD's tender care for a couple of hours it went and died on us. Did hand rear a couple of blackbird chicks successfully.
Sunny here this morning, but forecast is for rain.
Community Police Officer visited yesterday to 'reassure' us about all the activity. Another controlled explosion yesterday. Apparently the Police have about 7 acres of land to search now they have found some illegal firearms. On top of that the landowner liked to collect junk - so it is likely to be a time consuming process. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

No, I usually sleep well.....and they are still in their quarters.
However.... we have a 17 year old cat which doesn't like using a litter tray, if it can wake a human.
Guess who!
(Actually cat was at death's door a couple of months back, but I altered her diet and she's put on weight. Even makes it down to the hens some mornings nowor wanders off in the middle of the night!)

CTC, the quail babies are gorgeous
How are the baby piggies doing?? Hope you're feeling better in yourself today.
choille, good to see you back posting but sorry things have been tough for you & mr choille.
Lovely to see rozee back tooThe pic of your DD holding that huuuge bird was brilliant.
lir, how are you doing?? I was sad to read the other day that you thought your day-dream was going to be over.
Dave, glad to hear that your puss cat has put on weight, nothing worse when a much-loved pet loses weight & gets all skinny & ill looking. Sounds like she's got you at her beck & call
Our Caledonia day-dream moved one step closer this week ~ fingers are tightly crossed here, although there is still one big problem (red tape) to address.'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

Ah cats can be tyrants. No reasoning with them. Amazing how they manage to mould the world around them to suit their comfort in households such as ours.;) Good to hear she is putting on weight again.
Old dog has picked up again after visit to the vets at the weekend and a jab and some additional meds (zantac liquid for her upset tummy). Such a worry when they are poorly. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

No, I do think for us its over. I've just been to get some results from GP which I was told were inconclusive. One of the things I'm being tested for used to be an area of specialism for me ( not in humans) and so I wanted to get my results break down. Looking through them now its not THAT inconclusive for what this test tests for tbh.
Someone from the village offered me a chicken house this morning , they don't need it , and uncharacteristic ally is said ' I appreciate the offer, but I' not planning on getting any more birds, and another house would be more temptation' . So I obviously am really accepting the need not to restock now.
We'll stay here, live in the house, garden the garden, but maybe less with the plan of self sufficientish, more the idea of ' well, it would be nice if it does something too, but only if it doesn't make much work': a house and garden. I cannot see me able to get horses again if the inconclusive becomes 'yes' as its been hard enough to contemplate with my primary condition. I am not decided about the business yet, I see no rush. I might get the facilities in place faster than I was planning and try and let them out, not ideal, but a possibility. It was always one of the retirement options!0 -
LIR.... I am so sorry... but if we are all honest with ourselves... I know there are things slipping away from me that I would have loved to have done... we are all not getting any younger, and this can bring various health problems, whether they be physical or mental ones.. and fine tuning what we want or would like to do with our land/home etc to what we are actually capable of doing..
didn't go into work today, as a small bit of news turned me into a stressed out person again..
I haven't heard back from the doctors about the monitor readings, I am sure it was showing error most of the time lol.. I am going to try and make an appointment to see if it is all connected with the 'change' that I think I am starting to go through.. as I have said before yes I have always had stress in my life, but it normally fuels my 'get up and go' but now it is having the op effect, its driving me 'under ground' and I cant face people, and deal with even the smallest thing.. but this periodic.. some days/times I am fine, then within minutes I cant even think straight..lol..
so sitting here in my onsie.. eating bananas on toast...
will get changed soon, as I want to do some bits in the greenhouse..
PP ..the piggies are growing like they are on steroids lol... will take some more pictures to show you all...Work to live= not live to work0 -
LIR Sorry to hear that you are having to change your plans. It sounds as if you chose your home wisely so you have the flexibility to take different approaches to the future.
CTC Make sure you chase up the results and if you are not happy with what they are saying then push for more tests, your health is too important and you have been out of sorts for a while. I hope the news is nothing too awful.
Dave One of our cats likes to demand cuddles in the small hours of the morning :rotfl:
Pink Poppy How excitingWhat are the timescales likely to be?
Another gorgeous day today which was spent at the docs and then trying to find a chemist that had the medicationWhen my DD gets in from school we are going to head into the garden and get some weeding done. Well she can weed or tidy her room so we will see which one she chooses :rotfl:
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
The ill health thing does make you re-access stuff.
Hope fully your results will be better than you feared LIR. Always good to have a plan B in place though.
CTC - hope your results are a hormonal dip - these hormones have a massive effect................Give me a sore throat!
All the shouting.
Nice day here with a massive cloud burst that was almost like a flash flood.
Roof work is happening again - hopefully it will get finished. Hate all he water getting in. Think it was October when the last work was done on it!0 -

I'd second all of that.
I was sorry to read your news, lir, but I know that house of yours is a worthy project in itself, so you're well-placed to change direction without having to up-sticks as well, which can be heartbreaking.
I'll get some proper feedback from the doc next week, and that's when I'll start thinking seriously about the longer term. I've felt for a while that my energy levels have declined, but it's hard to be objective.
People say, "Well, what do you expect, you're a pensioner!" I don't know what I expect, but I'm extremely grateful for the good health I've enjoyed. No grumble there.
This morning I was half-listening to a "Thought for the Day" broadcast on the local radio. The vicar-man described a walk where he found himself somewhere different from the location he'd set out to reach. He wasn't lost or in any danger, but he needed to sit down and work out how to reach his intended destination.
That's roughly how it is for me right now. I don't dislike where I am, but it's not really where I intended to go....:o:o0
