Nice day yesterday until late afternoon when it started to rain.

I was lying out on the sun lounger minding my own business when I heard some frantic fluttering. Turned round and a few feet away was a goshawk with its talons stuck into a pigeon. We all looked at each other in mutual surprise and then both birds flew away. Amazing sight so close. There is a poster up in the village that someone has lost a goshawk so I reckon it is doing well.

Still a large police presence in the village, including the bomb squad and controlled explosions. According to the press (if you can believe it) an Uzi and AK47 were among the firearms recovered. The owner of said firearms was in court yesterday.

Interesting discussion on tree stumps. We are seriously considering taking out a horrible leylandii hedge, but from what you have said the stumps will have to stay.

Lovely puppy photos, thanks for posting :):):)

CTC hope your work day isn't too bad....

    You have all the fun!

Best we could do was a ranting woman with a lighter, threatening to pour petrol over herself and the police.

Still took hours for the arrest.

    Oh god, poor woman.

We get a few unexploded devices. Tbh, I thought it was a one off first time, now there have been more but not one has been a problem.

Not many would agree with you in this neck of the woods.

Most would say a calculating woman, who strung the police along, just as she did many locals. Pigeons just came home to roost and she didn't like it.

Friend of mine is owed £500, which she can ill afford and will never see, but that's business, I suppose.

You know, nature couldn't really have been kinder. We worked all weekend, sowed a few wildflower seeds, sprayed. Now today, and last night and after everything will have worked yesterday, the rain is watering it all in, so those seeds are getting a good start with op needing me to water, the tree which had a good soaking are still nicely damp and don't need more, and the weeds trying to grow away are working that yuck into their system.

I wonder what the forecast for next weekend is.........:)

    Edit , booo, rain.

I'm thinking the same about my grass seed, sown at different times, but the latest lot, only yesterday. The stuff Pete & I put down a few weeks ago should soon be showing now. :D

It's ideal growing conditions in the polytunnel too, but we have the Outlaws arriving soon, so I've been hoovering and I've soon to visit Barnstaple for some food items. :(:(

    Agghhh Bathstore:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Order arrived today and Mr BD noticed that they had sent the toilet pans (one for bathroom, one for cloakroom) but not the cisterns.

I ordered via the store as they said they could beat the online price and would help make sure my order was correct.

Well the lady I ordered through was very helpful and spotted some mistakes in my order and I got a discount on the online price :T:T

However, she admits that she made a mistake by omitting the cisterns when she placed the order for me. (If you order online both are automatically sent)

It turns out that the online price for this toilet was less than the store price (by £40), and not only that the price of both has gone up since I placed the order.

I have said that for the cisterns I will pay the difference between the online sale price and what I paid. But the store price was more and they want me to pay the difference between their price and what I paid. Their argument is that I got a discount on the rest of the order, so I should be happy with that. Agghh:mad::mad::mad:

Some lengthy phone calls trying to sort it all out, totally stressed. I have offered another £10 on top of what I think I should pay to try and resolve the issue, but no joy so far, although they have reduced the amount they are asking for.

Manager will be ringing me back tomorrow. Felt sorry for the lady who did the order - she is new and not totally au fait with the order system. However as Mr BD said - if it had been my mistake they would have charged me full whack.

CTC....ebay advice....had something arrive most definitely not as sold. Contacting seller, I'm hopeful its a genuine mistake. My gripe is I wouldn't have paid so much, nor paid for shipping across the country for something that is not as described. I am presuming contacting seller to say 'oi, this isn't on' nicely was right thing to do?

Went out to front porch for a ciggie :o and OH came out to keep me company. We heard a distant call that sounded like an owl, but for a while we wondered if it was kids pretending. But it kept going so long, and we thought also moving around. Just came in, but might pop out again in a few minutes to see if it's still calling. Our old home there were owls in the trees across the road, but they disappeared when bungalows got built on the land even though some of the trees still left. :( I feel so sad that our grandchildren won't get to hear these sounds of calling owls, and all the other beauty of the natural world that I remember from my childhood that doesn't seem to be around now.
