If the stump really bothers you, have you thought of getting a stump grinder in? Mind you not sure how much that could cost.

Stump grinders cost a fair bit.....
And sadly its not one, Its more than several. I think we have got about three dozen out, maybe a few more., but there are a fair few left! Those ones by the barn are ok, we are not planting other trees there, just more modest plants, so they won't be in the way so much. But the ones on the other boundaries are a bit of a pain as most of them are right where we want to put other trees in...and morpve a bit to the right of left there is another stump :rotfl: We have put some trees in where some have have come out, and some spaces left but some crucial ones really do still have to be hoiked out. Digger driver just keeps coming in and trying to see when they give easily, as so close to our fence and another other building its worth waiting.. Sort of.

My happiness was dampened this morning as we had to cull a chick due to my stupidity (I let a four year old handle it and it got injured). However, I can't beat myself up forever...
The house is coming on. Partially tiled floors and walls painted, it's really showing its promise https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/98410421/2014-04-19%2018.48.12.jpg The extnsion not only creates a wonderfully light and airy living area with fab views, but also light up the rest of the house. It is good beyond our greatest expectations, despite all the stress that we still have to get through. It is proving worth it and we're not living there yet.
We had one Sebbie egg hatch, so there's a one day old gosling to add to the flock. Hope it survives. It seems fairly strong.
Lovely puppies! We need a dog....0 -
Smashing pups, lucielle.:T I can see they'll be snapped -up pretty quickly.
Choille, you've returned! :j
I was hoping it was just a dodgy laptop.
Hope you're soon both over whatever you've had & able to join those lambs, frisking about the croft!
Oh wow, more posts and pictures....but duty calls and I'll have to look later.0 -

Can you find a farmer to mount a rotor stump grinder on their tractor?

I am going to see how it goes, in theory i would love to be able to supply resturants etc, but i need to do more research in our area, to see what the demand would be, also as we have a blank canvas so to speak, i contacted the local council to find out what criteria they look for when they come out and inspect, so we can arrange things to their spec, but they didnt know lol. So waiting for them to get back to me after easter.
As for the birds they are nut cases tbh, very nervous, an 'jumpy' so you got to do everything in slow motion, opening the cage, slowly get the drinker out etc...
I can see why now people keep them on mesh, sloping cages, and auto feed and drinkers
Ours are on sawdust and hay
Hmmmm...I had heard they were a bit jumpy, but didn't realise that much. Went back earlier to look at the ones I was thinking of buying and have a bit more of a think. Came away still undecided but with three chickens :rotfl:
All that talk about chicken manure this morning started my pining off again...0 -
Lost - what about a digging a small trench on either side under the big stumps, feed a strop under from one side to the other and attaching it to a winch or Landy maybe (although I'd worry about the clutch a bit). You could go round with a chainsaw and cut the biggest roots, before and during which would help.
...put a blanket over the rope to absorb any snapback if the rope breaks...0 -

Well, it would be our neighbour, whose tractor I use ( but cannot ATM...medical reasons) But not going to happen.
We need the stumps we need to plant in place of out rather than ground any way really, so its time and patience.
I am getting so good at that virtue, which is good and it is something I need to improve!0
